  1. Merry Birthiversary!

  2. Ahhhh!!! Flurry Heart has reached Pikachu levels of cute with this episode. Twilight flying around playing with her brought back happy memories of spending time with my brother's kids. "Best babysitter ever" they called me one day, when I managed to keep them thoroughly entertained from afternoon to evening and teach them how to bake cupcakes with homemade icing. It turned out black for a few of 'em, but oh well. ^^ Cheerilee and that apology card for messing up her blackboard was a great touch, and the play with Pinkie Pie, incidentally giving Flurry a chance to meet the Cake Twins too, felt like it clicked perfectly! I was really impressed with the writers for how well they handled that. Heck, I'm impressed with everything. This was just an absolutely enjoyable episode to watch from start to finish. It even had some thoughtful moments; Spearhead's comment about how he's glad that the art he loves to make could make his friends speak about what they love was actually really profound. There really is something here for everyone!
  3. The Secret Life of Rarity, The Public Life of Sweetie Belle, and Broken Blossom (all were fanfictions in the same 'series') all made me cry, big time. The amount of detail that they put into the tragic scenes was just absolutely heart-wrenching. I really caution against reading any of them if you are a hardcore Rarity fan (unless you like sad/tragic/grimdark stuff).
  4. I guess I'm most like Applejack, because I value truth, honesty, and integrity very highly. I know the value of tact and keeping certain things a secret, but if I started to feel like the situation was getting clouded up, overcomplicated, or hurting someone because of information being withheld or a lack of communication, I would step in and try to clear it up before it got any further. I've seen firsthand what lies and miscommunication can do, and how much they can hurt people, and I can't wish that on anyone. More than that, though, I value her because she represents strength and fortitude, and she acts like a pillar to help hold her friends up in the most trying times. I've done that on several separate occasions, so I can identify with those traits on a personal level. As to the question about whether I'd give money to the person or no, I would need to know more information. This is a complete stranger coming up to me and asking, out of the blue, if I have any money. It sounds just a little bit suspicious, so I would first ask why they're asking, and if they really are asking me to loan them money, and if so, how much. I'm not going to just up and give good money to someone I don't even know, unless maybe if I can tell that they really need it, or something. I would also try to find out if the person I'm giving it to seems trustworthy or not, because that'd play a big role in deciding whether or not I reach for my wallet. (I was going to say Loyalty, too, for much the same reasons with integrity above, but then I remembered that I'm nothing like Rainbow Dash because I don't really have that many big dreams.)
  5. The term 'Grimdark' originated from the tagline of Warhammer 40k, actually: "In the grim darkness of the 40th millennium, there is only war..." Or something like that. And since WH40K is very well-known for being a gratuitously gory, dark series with uncountable instances of body horror, mind-break, Lovecraftian abominations, etc. etc... you can probably understand why Grimdark means what it does.
  6. 'Love and Tolerate' isn't something that should be taken completely literally, because, as some people have stated above, it is a generalization—but it's a generalization meant to provide a unifying metaphor for bronies throughout the fandom. Because MLP: FiM's whole message is pretty much built around the virtues of compassion, honesty, generosity, etc., bronies like to take the 'Love and Tolerate' motto as a guideline or a mantra, just as was mentioned previously in this post. Of course it doesn't imply that some bad feelings are not deserved, or that we should apply it literally to every person and every situation—it simply means that, regardless of the circumstances in any given instance, we should keep an open mind and not close off our hearts to someone completely. Like I said, it gives a unifying metaphor for bronies who take such a maxim to heart, inspiring them to act as an example to others. Whatever comes after that is left up to the conclusions and interpretations of the individuals involved, but I would hope that the result is overall positive. I can say with certainty that I approve of the motto and the underlying message behind it. Even if 'Love and Tolerate' did start as a derogatory term or 'counter-troll', it's now being used as a metaphor, which is the important thing, right now. Speaking of being used, yes, 'Love and Tolerate' is very much a generalization. But that's not really a bad thing, in my opinion; sometimes we just love to use broad-sweeping terms like that when it's not so easy to tolerate something too specific which would dampen the message. (See what I did there? ^^)
  7. Setokaiva has been my most-used account name for over 10 years now -- I first started using it when I made the account to play on Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos' Battle.net system online. I chose it because I used to be a huge fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! shows, and my favorite character was always Seto Kaiba. Who couldn't like a billionare genius with a worldwide corporate empire and the skills to back up his words? He had a lot of depth to his character, too, 'cause he started off pretty much like a villain but wound up having to go off the grid to find his brother and set things right with KaibaCorp, and had plenty of conflict with the heroes along the way -- but wound up helping them just as much. Anyways, I thought his last name was pronounced 'Kaiva' with a 'v' when I first heard it, so the name stuck, and it's been my primary one ever since. ^^
  8. From head to toe, I typically wear a black, burgundy, or gray polo shirt, hopefully with a pocket (so I can keep my clip-on sunglass shades within easy reach), and a pair of dark blue denim jeans or brownish-beige cargo pants (you'd be amazed how well that clashes with my shirt). A pair of black socks beneath smooth black shoes rounds out the ensemble; I usually wear slip-ons, by the way, because I have a heck of a time wrangling with laces. xD I'm still trying to decide whether I should wear a hat, or no. Sometimes I wear a black baseball cap with red and white lining advertising the American Red Cross (an organization I thoroughly respect and admire). I almost always wear some kind of dark color, but I almost never wear pure black (black is meant to provide contrast, not be on its own -- except for certain events). As to what I would like to wear, I am looking for some kind of neck scarf or something in a nice, smooth and deep color... silver would be perfect. I cannot help but turn my head at every black car with silver linings that I see. There. Now you might be able to pick me out of a crowd... but I'm not counting on it. ^^
  9. Personally, I find it to be somewhat endearing most of the time; but I would prefer if the fic also showed her trying to adapt to a more modern mode of speech, as well. For example, she may use the royal we in an official context (since she is speaking with the full authority of the nation like that), but not when she is alone among friends or in an unofficial setting.
  10. Hello, everyone! This is a formal request for assistance to work on a Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo Gamecube) Crossover / Alternate Universe fic with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It will be Epic-class, with at least 30 full-length (8-10,000 word or so) chapters - not counting interludes, prologue, and other fluff. It will take place in the MLP universe, though with several places and ideas taken from TTYD and applied to it. Most of the characters should be quite familiar; I'm trying to avoid too many OC's or anything like that if I can. It will star the entire Mane 6 for most of the active group, along with a curveball or two for good measure, and all four main villains. I'm making this post because, honestly... I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed with everything right now, and I just can't seem to summon up the mental energy to work on it most of the time. Thing is, I really do want to do it - words cannot describe how excited and inspired I was when I first had this idea, and everything just seemed to click into place perfectly between the two plots. But, I guess my enthusiasm kinda faded after a while... so I've been procrastinating on it, horribly. Here's the thing, though; I've found that I can almost always work much easier and faster when I have someone with me, helping along. I had some people before - good ones, too - but they're almost all busy doing other things right now. And so, I thought I would put the word out that I have this fic in the works, and I am looking for a full-blown co-author to help me see it through to completion. Applicants should have; --> Prior knowledge of the Paper Mario: TTYD plotline & universe, as well as a very strong enthusiasm for it - I need someone who shares my passion for the game and its plot, as that will help me immensely when it comes to inspiration to get this thing written. Plus, it'll save me plenty of time and trouble explaining things. This isn't a complete deal-breaker, though, since I can still explain the plot and ideas (which I will be doing anyway); the real thing I'm looking for is inspiration, thus I need as much spirit and enthusiasm as I can get. --> A decent amount of regular free time you can take without stress. I understand if you have other things you must do or work on, of course, but it's pretty much a given that without being able to put in time, very little is gonna get done. I am running on GMT -06:00 (Central USA) time, and I am usually on during most of the afternoon and evening; I'm on at night, too, but I will be somewhat distracted then - I can usually work, though. --> Good communication skills - and not just being a cool, easy-to-get-along-with person (which helps too), but I want to stay in regular contact; that means letting me know if you have something going on, if you can't come for whatever reason, and staying available on Skype as much as possible. --> Aggressive enthusiasm - nothing makes me happier, or cuts through my procrastination better, than seeing people come to me directly instead of waiting for me to contact them. --> Decent writing skills - it goes without saying that you should have a good grasp of grammar and proper word use, and preferably some prior experience in proofreading or writing yourself. Please keep in mind that I am not just looking for an idea guy, spellchecker, proofreader, editor or anything common like that; I'm looking for a partner, whom I can count on to provide me with regular support and inspiration for the fic, yet still sternly hold me accountable for procrastinating and keep me on the straight and narrow. If anyone is interested in joining me in this endeavor, please either reply here, send me a PM, or just contact me on Skype (account name is 'umbranoth'), and we'll go from there. I'll probably start by getting to know you, first, just having a friendly back-and-forth and discussion - and if I like what I see, you'll probably get the job! And so, any Paper Mario: TTYD fans out there who felt that the plot didn't get enough justice, want to see an epic crossover between that and the land of Bronydom, or simply want to take part in writing something fun and awesome - give me a call! My door is open, and I am in no rush. Looking forward to meeting potential co-authors! ^^
  11. Hello everyone, I thought I'd just pay a brief stop to your convenient Introduction area on these forums - very good setup you've got here, by the way - and make myself known. Originally, I came from a popular MLP fanfiction site called fimfiction ; I highly recommend you check it out, it's a great place. I've only been a brony for about... 6 months now, I think, but that time has been quite memorable to me so far. I decided to broaden my horizons a little bit (mostly because Fimfic doesn't have a universal forums, only group ones), so I googled MLP forums and found this little gem of a place. And wow, is it massive! I'm really impressed by the kind of dedication that seems endemic throughout the whole of the MLP community, and this site is no exception. I look forward to becoming a part of your 'herd', and to meeting you all! . . . O yea, and Twilight is best pony. ^^
