Just Starting Out

Rhapsody

Hey Everyone! My OC's name is Rhapsody and I love art. And I don't just mean drawing, I mean music as well, plus writing. I've often fantasized, (as many people do) about becoming famous from my art skills, but I just don't know where to start. Obviously becoming 'famous' is a bit of a stretch, so for now I'll start with getting noticed. I would love any feedback you can give me on how to start my career in drawing or writing, either one will do.

My favorite style of drawing is cartoon characters that where originally inspired by the Equestria Girls movies. (I know, some of you might be gagging right about now, but if it wasn't for those movies I'd still be drawing stick figures) It's a kind of manga, anime combo I think, with a bit of my own personal flare. But if you ever see it, I'll let you be the judge. I also love writing adventure fantasy novels, mostly about magic and far away places and grand adventures.

My goal in life is to one day become a sketch artist for PIXAR. (We REALLY need to make an MLP equivalent for PIXAR! That would be amazing!) I know right now some of you are saying, 'Well, gee, why not just work for Disney. I mean, they're way bigger and better and it's probably easier to get in there than PIXAR,' and I know. But Disney is only creative up to a point, and the only reason they've continued being a success is because PIXAR joined them, and John Lassiter supervises most of their movies now. (John Lassiter is the one who helped found PIXAR) PIXAR is a place where they are all about telling stories. Not the way Disney does. Disney tells stories about princesses, and about mermaids, and about pirates, but PIXAR tells stories about meaningful things. A father traveling across the entire ocean to find his son, a civilization rising up against a menacing oppressor, a child going through emotional growth and so on. That's the kind of place that I can feel comfortable working for. That's the place where real creativity runs wild. That's why I wanna work there.

If anyone out there has any way to help me with any of these things, please leave a comment! It would mean a lot to me! Thank you for your time.

You want fame? Could you handle it? What would you enjoy about it? How would your life change?

What would you have to do to get there? How much work would you have to do, how much art would you have to do that you want to do, compared to whats popular?

Is it worth it?

If it is, get on all the social media, and youtube, and be active, and keep producing. And learn to not get down from hate mail or death threats. Learn to handle criticism, especially constructive criticism. And do what you know works, even if others disagree, but make sure it does work and isn't some sort of confirmation bias produced from hopeful thinking.

Also, check out how far other artists got with mlp, and take into account the times it happened at. It died down some.

And is that the life you would enjoy, then go for it.

If you want meaningful and popular art, your style has to be presented well, like translated into that demographic, to try to be true to yourself, and popular.

Grains of salt, and give or take.
