About this blog

This is a blog where I just post my thoughts and opinions in general, where those thoughts would be too long for a status update.

Hunting for sport is wasteful

Look, having grown up in the southern United States, I'm all for hunting. Especially if it's for food.   For me, hunting for food is almost always acceptable. This happens in the wild very often, and I firmly believe that if you want to shoot a deer and process the meat to feed yourself or your family, you should be able to go right ahead. Where I think it isn't okay to shoot or otherwise kill an animal for food is if the animal is endangered, regardless of whether you were aware of the animal

What if I told you that the United States is only about 50 miles away from Asia?

It's something I think about from time to time...about how the US is so far away from Asia. Let's face it. The Pacific Ocean is VAST! But here's something I didn't really think about until I was studying some maps.   The United States is technically only 50 miles away from Asia!     Now I know that Wikipedia isn't always the best source for information, but seriously...how inaccurate could the map be? Anyway, the article said that there'd be two bridges, each about 25 miles long and a thi

Why I don't play Pokemon anymore

Alright! Rant time!   I love Pokemon. It's something that I've long been a fan of and it'll always have a place near and dear to my heart. When I was a kid, I played the games, read the comics, and watched the anime as much as I could. But at this point, I think I'm done. I think I've hit a point in my life where I'm just done with Pokemon altogether. One might argue that I've simply outgrown Pokemon. I'm not going to bother ever playing a new generation of Pokemon again. Hell, I haven't even

I have a thing for old cars

I think that, when I get older and I'm set in my career, I'm never going to own a car newer than 20 years old. I have a thing for old cars that look good and run well.   I've always had an appreciation for old cars of any kind. Especially cars that used to be respectable cars. For example, the Pontiac Grand Prix. In the 1960s, this car looked pretty awesome. Like a little brother to the GTO     Newer models look like crap. There aren't as many of these as there is the Grand Am.   And

My Rant on Adam Buckley's Rant on Bronies

Pretty recently, I found Adam Buckley on YouTube, and I think most of his stuff is pretty funny or agreeable. Even in his less than funny rants, he tends to make a lot of good, intelligent points to certain things while not giving a fuck in the least. That’s what I like most about him. He just doesn’t care. Adam Buckley is about as apathetic as they come, and he makes it pretty clear in some of his videos.   So I became a kind of fan of his and I’ve been listening to a lot of his stuff because

This intersection needs a stoplight. Somepony could be injured or killed!

Like seriously. Notice how, at the end of "Generosity," Carriage #1 simply pulls out in front of Carriage #2 at the intersection in the red circle. Who had right of way? Did #1 legally make that left turn? Was #2 supposed to yield? Without a stoplight at this intersection, WHO KNOWS?!They were both fortunate that they missed each other (though just barely). A stoplight would be useful at this intersection! Somepony could be injured or killed! I just hope that none of those carriages were carryin

2014: Year of the Beard

it's been about 2½ or 3 weeks or so since I last shaved. And here I am looking like a total scuzball because my hair was kinda nappy and greasy     So I got the idea to make a video project where I take a picture a day for the entire year of 2014, but I can't shave all year. On December 31, I'm going to shave my face, and from January 1, 2014 through January 1, 2015, the razor will not touch my face. I'll take one picture a day and at the end of the year, I'll mash them all together in a s

Just how big are kilo-, mega-, giga-, and tera-?

I was watching a video hosted by Jeremy Clarkson earlier called “Inventions That Changed the World: The Computer.” It got me thinking about just how amazing these machines have actually become. We started with machines capable of computing a couple numbers at a time to the Colossus which used a series of 1,800 valves to perform computing functions all the way up to ENIAC with 17,000 tubes to the microprocessors of today, which have moved past those archaic valves and tubes to hundreds of million

I'm about to cry. Faith in humanity somewhat restored.

It melts my heart to know that people like this exist. This is beautiful.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAcFWdQymPQ   I just heard this story on the news. This cop was driving around doing his normal patrolling when he happened upon this young child who was playing football all by himself. Just kinda tossing it up in the air and catching it.   Anybody else would have just driven past. This guy? He stops to play with the kid.   What's even more touching is that he lives with his sing

I'm dropping out of grad school.

Just like the title says, I’m dropping out of graduate school. I can’t handle it anymore. I am under a lot of pressure, and it’s causing me a lot more anguish than I need in my life. So here are my reasons for doing so:   1. I already have a Bachelor’s Degree. Right now I’m pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration, and it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be, especially now that I have a job. Yes, an MBA would allow me to go much further than my BBA will, but I’m pretty happy where

The Pirate Bay has been raided!

I'm actually pretty surprised I haven't seen this all over the place everywhere I go yet...   This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but here I go anyway.   I read in the news today that The Pirate Bay has been seized by police. This is part of an article by TorrentFreak     This is sort of stirring up a bit of controversy. But I have agree with Rich in this video here.     Now I'm no angel. I was pretty stupid when I was a teenager and I didn't know exactly how big so

I had the weirdest series of dreams last night (#3 is probably the best)

Last night, I woke up a few times in the middle of the night for various reasons. Also, last night was a very active night for me in terms of dreaming. Note that plenty of this is blurry as it’s hard for me to remember most of this, but it’s all in there (kind of).   Dream #1: My Ex Can't Leave Me Alone The first dream involves my girlfriend and me. We’re sitting at a restaurant. I’m having steak, and she’s having a white peach drink (which is a very sweet fruity beverage with a shot of vodka

Shoplifter caught in the act

HOLY CRAP! I'm not really sure how to feel about this. On one end of the spectrum, I understand what it's like to be poor. Perhaps she has an abusive boyfriend? But on the other end of that, if you're stealing out of necessity, there are plenty of welfare options available to you. You can make a half-decent living off of welfare. There are so many variables in this. At the end of the day, I don't think people should be shoplifting. It's wrong.

Scammed. And I should have known better.

Disclaimer: This contains some language that is hidden in the fourth spoiler. Other than that, the rest of the entry is clean. Disclaimer the second: There's some light computer jargon, and if that's not your thing, your head may hurt.   This is my Samsung Galaxy S4. (ignore the Toshiba laptop it's sitting on. I needed a surface that contrasted with the color of the phone lol)         I love my phone. It’s the first phone I’ve had that my parents weren’t paying the phone bill. That’s

Coffee creamer that tastes like Girl Scouts cookies?! WHAAAAT?!?!

I'm at a loss for words.     For the record, I LOVE Girl Scouts cookies. Especially thin mints. I don't buy them often. I bought some tonight and this was the first time I bought Girl Scout cookies in a couple years because when I buy Girl Scout cookies, I make them disappear. Anyway, I just saw a commercial for it on TV so it HAS to be real.   You guys, if I see this stuff at the store, I'm buying all of it. Then I will go home and drink coffee by the gallon.

Cars and heat: The two just don't mix

By now, it should be common knowledge that you're not supposed to leave kids in the car when you go somewhere. But the sad truth is that some of us forget that. In fact, in 2013, at least 44 children died because they were left in a hot car, and there have been 2 child deaths in hot cars in 2014 (source)   I got a little curious. So now with summer coming up on us, I decided that I wanted to know exactly how hot it gets in a car in the summer.   I live in western Oklahoma. Here, it gets rea

A McDonald's in Switzerland has some pretty naughty stuff on the TV's

Source Article from The New York Post: Customers accidentally get a side of porn at McDonald’s   I heard about this on the radio show I listen to in the mornings at work. You guys know how when you go into a McDonald's they have the TVs turned to something? Around here, it's usually news. CNN, NBC, yadda yadda...Well a few days ago, a McDonald's in Switzerland had been on the sports channel when suddenly     On the TV screens it shows the pornography of women!   Now they said on the rad

MLPF March Madness: What I hope for in the next couple days

All in all I can say this year has been a good one for me as far as March Madness is concerned. And while my favorite pony lost earlier than I would have liked, I still love Luna most. I'm also not mad about her losing to Fluttershy because I love Fluttershy only marginally less. Like, it's the same difference between sugar cookies and chocolate chip. I pretty much love them the same.   Now we're at the Final Four and the championship is right around the corner. The fans have spoken and I'm qu

About that girl who slept on her phone and it caught on fire

I guess this is a picture of the phone in question. And in case you haven't heard of it yet, link!     Now I'm not going to say I'm not guilty of doing this myself. It was actually probably about last year that I stopped doing this.   It stemmed from me being protective of my phone. When I was a teenager, I would want to use my phone later than I should have been. I started putting it under my pillows when my parents would come into my room and check my messages and see how long I was up

We are all attention seekers

I’ve seen plenty of people call out people they call “attention whores.” Those people who post things that say “like if your shirt is yellow” or “like if you were born” or “like if you—“ some other thing that obviously a lot of people are doing, have done, have experienced, and so forth. And these people agree that they have done or experienced that thing so they drop this person a like. Then that person has thousands of people who have given their status or their comment or whatever a like. Nex

My thoughts on the 8th generation of consoles

Just a little disclaimer - I'm not bashing consoles. If you have a console, then that's fine. Have it. If it's your preferred choice. Really, I think what you get is a matter of preference. Contrary to popular belief in the PC gaming community, consoles do have advantages. That said, let's move on.   I’m really not too impressed with anyone’s offerings in terms of consoles. The one that comes closest to impressing me is the PS4, and I’m still sort of…eh…about it. Have I become jaded to the nex

Oklahoma: The Bipolar State

This picture was taken at 4:53 pm     And this one was taken at 5:22     In hardly half an hour, it went from hardly being able to see across the road to a picture perfect evening. Welcome to Oklahoma!   And it's December. While other people are getting snow, we're getting rain, hail, and tornadoes.

What My Guitar Means to Me (And How Music Saved My Life)

Disclaimer: there's some language and dark themes in this entry. If you're easily offended by dark themes or strong language, this is your fair warning.   Let me tell you guys something: I love music. It’s something I do every day. I took music classes in high school and I played in a college band. I also played the guitar in a local band with some of my best friends. Music means a lot to me. It’s been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember.   My mother and father listene
