My Stance on Immigration in a nutshell

For starters, I'm talking about both legal immigration and the illegal kind. There's something funny I've seen in my own country...   While my country shall remain undisclosed, I will say that we used to have a lot more immigrants -- both legal and illegal -- up until recently. These immigrants were mostly Colombians and Venezuelans. What happened? Why is it many of them left?   Not long ago, Colombia's economy has started to improve. Ever since then, we've been seeing less and less Colombia

So, you want to make your own energy/electricity?

Consider this a brief introduction to the topic.   Whether you are just a homeowner, a business or a utility and you're looking to produce energy -- whether to save money or to make money -- suffice it to say we're living in an age of alternatives. There really are a plethora of ways to do that nowadays. Sources include natural gas, (crude) oil, coal, nuclear, hydro-electric, biomass, solar, wind and geothermal for the most part.   So how do you even begin to choose? While there are many fac

The American Continent: Mortality at age 15 - 60

So I went to the World Health Organization's website and looked up countries on the continent of America (North America, Central America and South America). The stat I look at is: "Probability of dying between 15 and 60 years m/f (per 1 000 population, 2013)"   The USA's stands at 127/76 which means out of 1000 people, 127 males aged between 15 - 60 won't make it. What that means is, if you follow 8 random people who are 15 in the US, one of them will probably die before reaching 60 for whatev

"Over-Positivity" In The Fandom - A Quick Thought

So there have been some cries of there being "over-positivity" in the fanbase about fans being very biased to only see the good in episodes and not wanting to hear the bad.   What I have to say about it is this: what did you expect?   Thinking about it a certain way, does it make sense for someone not liking the show and the community to stay in the community? I don't think so either.   It's a rather black-and-white model but this more of a conversation-starter than a closing statement on

Robert Sapolsky Biologically Validates Gender Dysphoria in Six Minutes

Robert Sapolsky is an accomplished neuro-endocrinologist and in this six minute video, he explains that being transgendered is a biological phenomena. Neuro-anatomical but biological no less. He does refer to it as trans-sexualism but oh well. If you are transgendered yourself and feel as though you're in the wrong body, have no doubt! Enjoy!

Similarities between the Conservative and Liberal: A Matter of Perspective

I forget where I've heard this but a specific but simple way of defining these two labels was shown to me.   The idea behind "conservative" comes from being frugal with government power. Analogous to how a supermodel would be "conservative" with their carbohydrate intake.   With "liberal," it's about being OK or promoting government influence.   However, with a shift in perspective, things could be turned on their heads, turning conservatives into librals and liberals into conservative.

Condensed: Violence - A Universal Challenge

This is a summary of a chapter of a summary report. Without further ado.   Violence is something that can permeate everywhere. Many people suffer health problems, are injured or die because of violence.   The success of public health approaches to other environmental and behavior-related health problems are changing the assumptions of violence being seen as a fact of life and that it is to be exclusively considered as a "law and order" issue.   The consequences of violent behavior could no

Neediness as a natural characteristic of our fandom

This is meant to give some clarity on the subject instead of being insulting in any way. When something is simply understood, moral judgments become null.   OK, with that out of the way... I'm sure those of us who have been interacting with the fandom for a while have seen this in other bronies and/or in ourselves as well. Neediness being defined as "desiring constant affirmation, lacking in self confidence". These traits are more visible in some than others.   So how could this be some kin

A quick thought on Electric Vehicles: H2 Fuel Cells versus Batteries

Apparently there's been a debate on that at some point. My main gripe with Hydrogen fuel (or any renewable fuel for that matter) is how relatively convoluted the whole process of getting the energy of fuel from point A to point B. Biofuel has to be manufactured and then transported before it can fill up a tank. With battery electric vehicles, you just plug in and the electric grid does the rest. Really, the electric grid is a far simpler way of transporting energy. As for where the energy comes

Frustrated With Politics?

A lot of people who are disillusioned with politics seem to have very little understanding of what it's about and really, I'm hardly better off myself -- if at all. From what I've been getting, politics seems to be mainly about engaging and interacting with crowds which is something not many people know how to do well. Paraphrasing developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld: "engage before you interact". Most people think of this as common courtesy -- the basis for meaningful communication. P

About This New Blog: In The Glimmer

Hello, everypony. How're you all doing?
