About this blog

This blog contains all my reviews on MLP FiM episodes. I will skip many episodes and maybe even a few seasons, depending on various circumstances; however, I probably won't review episodes that precede the ones I review.

Important: I've stopped reviewing episodes as of now for a few reasons, so I won't be posting reviews anymore until further notice.

Updates:

Spoiler

Update 1: I changed the title of this blog from "Critique" to "Review" since that is a better term to use in this context.

Update 2: I have changed a few features of the rating scale to make the ratings balanced. The changes are highlighted in detail in the below tag.

Spoiler

Highlights key:

green = changed text either by being added or moved to a different location

red + strikethrough = deleted text

Rating Scale (new):

0 = the worst of the worst, an absolute failure

1 = the worst of the worst, an absolute failure an very extremely horrible disaster

2 = a very horrible disaster very dreadful

3 = terrible

4 = bad

5 = mediocre

6 = good

7 = great

8 = very fantastic

9 = extremely amazing

10 = an absolute perfection

Rating Scale (old):

1 = the worst of the worst, an absolute failure

2 = a very horrible disaster

3 = terrible

4 = bad

5 = mediocre

6 = good

7 = great

8 = fantastic

9 = extremely amazing

10 = an absolute perfection

Note 1: (This may be confusing by the way) Notice how the old rating scale has 4 negative ratings and the new scale has 5 negative ratings. I did this to even out the rating scale, as the old had 4 negative and 5 positive and now the new has 5 negative and 5 positive. That explains why numbers 0-2 have more highlighted text than the rest. Remember, the "mediocre" rating is neutral, neither positive or negative, so this rating doesn't count when I refer to "positive" and "negative" ratings.

Note 2: The old scale was used only on my reviews on episodes 1,2, and 3, so I have changed the scale to the new scale on those episodes. The new rating scale did not affect the episode ratings on those episodes.

Note 3: From now on, I shall be using the new rating scale on all of my reviews.

Update 3: I changed the layout of my reviews because they were starting to feel repetitive, so now they basically have little to no layout. Another reason for this change is that having hardly any layout will give me more freedom in my reviews and gives them more flow. The only main problem with this is that my reviews won’t have any base structure, making them less organized and less like each other, but I think the pros outnumber the cons.

Season 8 Episode 7 Review

Preliminary Topic Before I begin my review, I must bring up an essential topic. If you already know why Celestia is a problematic character and what those problems are, then there is no need to read this section. Feel free to skip down to the review at any time. Season 8 Episode 7 “Horse Play” Review by EpicEnergy To begin with, I have much to say about the characters, starting with Celestia. There are three things about her that I want to address. Firstly, the writers fixed the

Season 8 Episode 6 Review

Season 8 Episode 6 “Surf and/or Turf” Review by EpicEnergy This episode was amazing, but it did contain a few problems. First and foremost, I must address one of the largest problems in season 8 – the Cutie Map. I briefly mentioned it in my episode 1 review, that it will affect future episodes, and that is exactly what is occurring here in episode 6. I’ll briefly explain the situation – The Cutie Map is already a contrived and arbitrary plot-device, because it suddenly appeared with Twiligh

Season 8 Episode 5 Review

Season 8 Episode 5 "Grannies Gone Wild" Review by EpicEnergy This episode is impressive. The worldbuilding in it is very appreciative, as Las Pegasus is the setting of this episode, this time without having any antagonist. As if the worldbuilding wasn’t enough, the numerous side characters (old and new) are given satisfying spotlight time that allows them to develop. This also opens the door for plenty of fan-fics and so much potential for the show. I’d also like to add that Jackpot and Tri

Season 8 Episode 4 Review

Season 8 Episode 4 “Fake It Till’ You Make It” Review by EpicEnergy Characters: This episode centers around Fluttershy, so I will focus solely on this character for this reason and that there are no new characters introduced. Fluttershy acts far out of character in this episode, so the question that should be asked should be based around whether this is inconsistent and whether it makes sense or not. I would argue that it is very inconsistent and makes no sense. It will be evident why I say

Season 8 Episode 3 Review

Season 8 Episode 3 “The Maud Couple” Review by EpicEnergy Characters: Let me initiate this review by starting with the primary new character in this episode – Mudbriar. His personality is mainly technicality; as a matter of fact, he is only technical and hardly nothing else. This becomes very annoying over time, since he is always acting and speaking with technicality. Consequently, I must subtract a good portion of points from the episode rating for this. Next, I shall briefly talk about P

Season 8 Episodes 1 and 2 Review

Season 8 Episodes 1 and 2 "School Daze" Review by EpicEnergy Season 8 Episode 1 “School Daze Part 1” Review Episode 1 Opening: Normally, I don’t have an episode’s opening as an individual category in my reviews, but this is an exception because this opening is the first scene we see of season 8, containing much information right off the start. Since this is the first episode of season 8, this episode indeed has a connection with the previous MLP Movie, but not with season 7. First and
