Clever Callback from Winter Wrap Up (Episode 100 Spoilers)

Remember when Amethyst Star said this?   A user named "gato" from the Sonic Stadium Message Board caught this reference and dug up the archives, so credit goes to him:     See that vest and sleeve? Amethyst was the captain of the animal team, and it took place during the early half of season one, as Twilight was still getting accustomed into Ponyville. It's a little detail that only a few will catch, and even I didn't until he said it. To use that subtle reference in Slice of Life is ex

"It's like deja vu all over again."

Not many of us can live to such a ripe age, but Yogi Berra proudly can. On this day ninety years ago, Hall-of-Fame catcher Yogi Berra was born. One of the best in the game, he fielded his position amongst the best of anyone. But his hitting is also legendary: He retired with a .285 average, 358 home runs, and 1,430 RBIs. As a player, he was a three-time AL MVP and won the most rings of any Major Leaguer: thirteen (ten as a player, three more as a coach: 1969, 1977, and 1978). He also holds one o

The Rock's best entrance music: "Is Cookin'" (Version 2) from 2003

The Rock's entrance music is extremely iconic, and you have to give thanks to composer Jim Johnston (a dude who should be elected to not just the WWE Hall of Fame, but some other music HOFs, too) for that. The style of the music regardless of genre is associated with The Great One. Anytime you hear it, you think of him.   But if you have to tell me which is the best, it's when he played the Hollywood heel: Is Cookin'. Introduced at No Way Out and subsequently revised the following night in Tor

Still one of my favorite jokes from my mom.

My mom's a high school teacher, but she'd also make a great stand-up comedian.   In 2011, Harold Camping predicted that the world would end on May 21 that year. Her students were worried. Mom wasn't, and the conversation went like this.

One "Did you know?" from MGM's The Wizard of Oz

About 85-and-a-half years have passed since The Wizard of Oz debuted in theaters. Today, it's one of the all-time masterpieces of cinema for being well ahead of its time, great characters, and a fantastic cast.     In the middle of the clip, The Lollipop Guild does its famous routine. Concentrate on the Munchkin in the green. That's Jerry Maren when he was somewhere between seventeen to eighteen years old.   At 95 years old, he's the last living cast member from the movie. Everyone from

I don't get no respect!

Rodney Dangerfield is one of my all-time favorite comedians. Known affectionately as the King of One-Liners who "don't get no respect," his self-deprecating jokes are too good to pass up.   Here's some of his magic from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVQB9N__pdc

Celebrating Derpy Day by rewatching two classic brony videos!

Derpy's the essence of what the brony fandom is. Without it, Derpy would never have existed. Inspired by a simple animation error, she became the fandom's beloved mascot.   There are two great videos that capture her beauty perfectly:   Derpy Loves Her Lava Lamp:   Derpy's Christmas:   Also, Forest Rain's signature song: Great to Be Different.   Happy Derpy Day, everypony! /)

"Sweet Victory" from Spongebob's "Band Geeks"

Band Geeks is easily one of the best episodes of Spongebob. To many fans, it's the best of the show, and with great reason. There are a ton of fantastic jokes. Every character is in character. Squiward, who was written often as a karmic butt of jokes, had an entire episode dedicated to him wanting to triumph over his rival, Squilliam. Each character had a great role, from Plankton to Sandy to Patrick to Patrick. When it was doomed to fail, Squidward had every reason to feel hopeless, but did it

A hilarious scene from classic Spongebob Squarepants

When you watch classic Spongebob and then Spongebob in the later seasons, you'd come to appreciate just how great the first three seasons are, especially their gags.   Like this one (playback outside of YT's disabled, so you must watch it there):   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i6RUN9Akuo

Wrigley Field footage from 1938

Recently, the Chicago Film Archives obtained classic footage of Wrigley Field back in 1938.     Above is a film produced by Jacob Glick, a Ukrainian immigrant born in 1898, who own cigar shops around the city. His daughter, Diane Berolzheimer, and her husband donated ninety-three rolls of film to the Chicago Film Archives, and this was one of them.   This film is very historic is some capacities. Back in the 1930s and '40s, there was no such thing as a batter's eye. People would sit in

Bob Ross's mentor, Bill Alexander: The Magic of Oil Painting

Prior to the wet-on-wet oil painting technique, Bob Ross was a "traditional" painter and painted oils the old-fashioned way that you see the classics painted. Instead of big brushes that can create scenes very quickly, you had to wait for layers to dry before continuing. Therefore, a simple painting could take several weeks to complete.   The wet-on-wet painting technique changed that, and he saw The Magic of Oil Painting, a program that would win an Emmy. Bill Alexander, the host of the progr
