A Tale of Two Soccer Games

So I just played an intramural soccer game today. Actually, I played two. It's a tournament-esque type of event where our university divides up into teams to play soccer against each other. With this blog post, I'm going to give you guys an overview of what happened at both games and how they turned out. As of tonight, I've played 4 games with my teammates.   Part 1: A Filler for a team in need of players
So I came to the field where I was supposed to play at noon. My real game was at 1:00 pm but I noticed that one of the teams didn't have enough players. So their team hooked me up for a game, even if it meant little (they forfeited due to low numbers). Before the game started, I was talking with one of their team members, and as an ardent soccer follower, he remarked that I seemed the type to play central attacking midfielder. It's a position where I act as a striker, but also make good passes to my teammates when necessary to push the ball forward. It's the epitome of creativity!   At this game, I was at my natural position: central attacking midfielder. I was to try making plays for the team while getting a chance to bag some goals of my own.   Our side won 5-1. I helped out with the second goal by using my head at the midfield and pushing the ball forward for the striker to take hold. Throughout the game, I got a lot of ball touches. I managed to pass the ball around pretty well. Plus, I had a defender who blocked my volley that was destined for the net! It was such a wonderful cross! Then there was my header that I managed to hit because of another beautiful lob! Too bad the ball went just wide of the goal. Although I didn't score a goal, I felt really good about the assist and the chances I got; after all, it was the first time I ever attempted a header AND a volley in the same game!   Part 2: The starter for our squad
Now it's 1:00 pm, and I just finished playing the first game upon seeing my teammates arrive. I was hoping for a feast in front of the net. I warmed up with the first game and I wasn't even close to feeling tired! I wanted to win! I wanted to be involved in the right ways!   For this game, I was once again playing Central Attacking Midfielder. But I don't think my teammates knew what that was, so I stuck with the label "midfielder". As you'll see, with this change of label...   Things soon got depressing. Our opponents, who were down a girl and a guy, scored on us first because their two best players were dancing around our defenders with their feet. Now mind you, I stayed at the attacking half because I'm terrible at defense. After that, I wanted a goal. Badly. So when there was a goal kick, I immediately ran for the ball and controlled it. I passed it to my left seeing that our left winger was free. She ran up with the ball and crossed it to our striker who soon tied the game 1 all.   This was where things went even worse. Our defenders simply couldn't handle our opponent's two talismans. They scored a goal to end the half and soon scored another to begin the second half from distance! It was raining too! But that's not the point. I didn't get any touches of the ball after that. I ran into open space but I just kept on getting frustrated at how NO ONE was giving me any passes! I don't want to hog the ball; I want to make the good passes to help our team move up!   Our team was handed their first loss: 3-2. Yeah it could have been 3-1, but we got a penalty near the end of the game which was converted.   My rant
But I'm just confused. For much of the game, our team moved so far back that I ended up acting like a striker when I wanted to be an attacking midfielder. They're two different things! The worst part was that each time I called for the ball into open space, I either wasn't given the ball (80% of the time) or the ball was passed right into an opponent (20% of the time). I kept motioning the others to pass into space, but they didn't listen!   At noon, I was playing with strangers and I played way better. It's been like this since the second game with my team! At our very first game in September, I got way more touches. I scored a goal AND assisted another one en route to a 3-0 win. I don't know what's happened since then, but in some ways, I feel like a ghost to my teammates. I want to contribute, but my teammates are stifling every chance at that!   I'll make many more forward runs next week. I'll do everything I can to improve and get a play going. I feel much more fit now especially since I've played 2 games in succession today. But gosh, is it alright for me to tell them how I feel about all this? I want more touches and a chance to make some plays! At the same time, I don't want to sound arrogant (I know I sound pretty arrogant here, but it's all true! I don't want to hog the ball; I just want to make more passes to my teammates to create space for chances at goal!), but it's really hard not getting recognized by my teammates in team talks.   I already said before that I want to play as an attacking midfielder, but they don't know what that is! I guess I'll have to try again sometime before our last game on Halloween... I just hope I get more chances to help out.

My First Throwback (World Cup Related) in a While!

This was why I wanted to host an event like the World Cup on MLPF. Reading through all these quotes again has left me hoping that most of my Masters work will be done by the time I kickstart the qualifying phases of the 2017/2018 MLPF World Cup.
Thanks @Stellafera for making the vid once again   For those of you unaware of what I'm talking about, here's the thread for the inaugural edition. It's basically a huge voting tournament to determine who the forum's favourite pony is. And a chance to show which character you love the most healthily.   https://mlpforums.com/topic/82112-go-to-post-2014-mlpf-world-cup-thread-for-final-results/   Also, the logo by @Zhooves

I've started writing fimfics!

So basically, I've started writing fanfics for MLP since I've had a hard time being a part of long-lasting roleplays that went through all the way to end. As such, I decided to start writing out my own stories which you can find here along with their descriptions!   https://www.fimfiction.net/story/282643/civilization-the-world-on-your-hooves
It's a fan fic about Button Mash moving to Ponyville, in the views of a famous turn-based strategy game!

Coping with Anxiety: Talking about your problems

Before I start with this entry, I hope you have been acquainted with the first part of my "coping with anxiety" series. In my first blog, I talked about writing down your fears on a piece of paper or on your laptop's notepad and reflecting on them. So many people like me face anxiety every day, and I began this blog series to help fellow bronies cope with being scared about many different, important matters in their lives.   Now I move forward to the second piece of advice I have: Talking about your problems. First off, it's easy to keep your problems to yourself, whether about work, love, or even family. Once again, I'll give you some examples from my life. The first spoiler is related to work. The second spoiler is related to friendship/love.               Fear is often brought about by many different conditions. One of the most common I've felt and heard is the assumption that I'm the only one facing this problem and that people, especially my friends, think that I'm stupid or emotionally weak if I get anxious about the littlest things. In reality, a lot more people are anxious about these "little things" because we find them so important.   That's where your true friends come in. True friends will really come around and understand your plight. They're people who you can talk freely to about the things you are most worried about. They try their best not to place their prejudices and negativity against your issue and instead empathize with what you're facing. I'm very blessed to have my share of friends who I can talk to about my issues, many of which are on MLPF.   It was my friends and family who helped me speak calmly to my supervisor about the mistake I made. We went over the protocol again and made sure I got it right the next time. We also managed to discuss more topics together and come up with more directions for my research project. As for women, it took a lot of searching, but I feel as though I finally found the right women friends for my life. I also had lots of people tell me about the best type of women in my life, and how I'm a very unique person. It helped me see why most women didn't fit well with me and how there's so many toxic people in my life I shouldn't even bother thinking about . Nevertheless, I still get anxious when I want to become closer friends with women, but I started realizing that the best women will love me for me. Hmmm... maybe one of them will turn out to grow with me the rest of my life . But that discussion's for another day and another time.   One last thing: Don't bother trying to get advice from Yahoo Answers . I tried that a few times with girl issues, and my gosh was I more confused about what to do than ever. That's why I suggested talking to friends instead, or people who know how to give good advice . Even older people are a good choice because they have so many more life experiences. I had my piano teacher give me love advice after he noticed me sighing about life in general.

Coping with Anxiety: What I do.

Hi everyone.   I just wanted to show you guys a way to help cope with your anxiety. On the first spoiler, I write down how I typically feel whenever I feel very anxious. Just an hour ago, I felt very anxious about many things that were happening to me in my life recently. I then decided... why not write down all that I was thinking... why I felt so nervous... You will see all that at the spoiler.       ------------------------------------------------------------- Did you read the first spoiler? Now, take a look here. I got through all the struggles I talked about with the help of many people, and prayer. While I was writing down all the things I struggled with on my first spoiler, I was reminded of all the positive things my friends said. There was indeed hope within my anxiety. I know many of you don't see it where you are, but for any of you struggling with anxiety, you all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Find people to talk to about your problems. Don't be shy to say them. Perhaps they will be of much assistance.   I openly admit that I still struggle with anxiety. It's not easy to just move on from anxiety with the snap of your fingers. I know how hard it is. I face anxiety every day. I guess it comes from what my supervisor said" You're a very self-conscious person!" . That reminded me of Fluttershy . For all you self-conscious people, it's good to be aware of what you're doing. But don't do it to the point you lose perspective of all the good things you are ! True friends will see your positive traits and lift you up for it!   One last thing. Always try writing out your thoughts like I just did. It helps you get a feel on what you're thinking so that when you read it again after a few days or even hours, that you will realize that reality is much different from what your mind believed...   I hope this helped in anyway possible for you anxious folks. I don't have much free time to post something like this, but like I said before. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I need your help starting Monday!

Hi everyone!   Starting Monday, I'll be needing the help of the entire forums. You see, I competed at a speaking competition this past February where I talked for precisely three minutes about my water research. Although I didn't place, I have a chance to win People's Choice and $250. All you need to do is to sign up to their website on Monday and vote for my speech. The email I received earlier today provides the details on the voting competition.   I see this as an opportunity to spread the word on how bronies can be deeply involved with academics too and actively helping our world in many different ways. Keep watch on blog on Monday. I'll be posting my video and the link where you guys can vote for me!         Thanks so much for helping me out if you do.

My favourite piano piece (With Reflections)

These past few weeks have been really hard on me. My piano teacher's getting fired because of the university's financial concerns (the Redeemer one), my friend being at the university where a shooting took place, and just a lot of stress from all the work I have to do at grad school.   My piano teacher looked very defeated when he asked what piece I wanted to learn from him... I knew it would be one of the last pieces I'd ever learn from him, since he was going to go back to the US to find a job... When he asked... the first notes of Chopin's Ballade in G minor rang in my head...   It was the perfect piece. The piece that truly represented all the angst, anxiety, and nostalgia I felt in my heart... It had such a tense beginning... such a powerful melody to start the piece... The beginning truly pierced my heart... Chopin, the composer, exiled himself from his mother Poland... In a way, I felt exiled too... my playing was never appreciated by the people who attended the university... they never appreciated my piano teacher either... and I felt worried about my friend... we had such wonderful conversations together...   But what really stood out to me was the subtle melody that would come back to haunt me... When the melody played the 2nd time... that truly brought out the nostalgia in me... and the tears at that. The desire to feel appreciated by others... The desire to see her someday... the hope that my piano teacher wouldn't be fired after all... Chopin had hoped to come back to his homeland too... He wanted to see Poland again after they were conquered by their surrounding nations... A free Poland was what he wanted too...   It was such a powerful piece. I couldn't turn down the opportunity to learn the piece under the best piano teacher I ever had... especially since he only had a year left... The piece truly showed just how these feelings of nostalgia, anxiety, and sadness are found in everyone... Just watch The Pianist where this piece was made famous... Listen to the whole piece too... Maybe you'll feel the same way I did when I played it...   DISCLAIMER: I've only practiced this piece for 2 weeks. I'll definitely show me playing the entire piece once I get it perfected.

This shooting was different...

It was a sunny Thursday morning when I arrived at the Life Sciences Building at McMaster University. I was eagerly preparing my things for my PCR reaction to detect bacteria found in mice feces. All of my reagents were ready. Everything was clean and perfectly set up. This was going to be a good day I thought.   Then it was time to open my laptop and check the news like I always did to start the day. The first headline I read would change all that...   "Shooting at FSU injures 3, shooter killed."   When I read the headline, I honesty wasn't sure what to make of it. I started to breathe faster... My mind was reeling from the headline... I repeatedly swore at myself, astonished at the words that were posted in front of my eyes... I wasn't even sure what to make of the headline... The first thought that came to my mind was... Is she ok?!   You see, one of my closest friends attends a university in Florida. I had no idea which one... all I knew was that it was a public university. You see, even though she never said which university she attended, I had a feeling that FSU was the one she attended... and when the headline popped, I could only walk around the lab at 9:00 in the morning, wondering whether she was alright... I still had to mark biology papers, and I had a few papers to read about microbial source tracking... I didn't have enough to process the headline and read the story...   When I managed to get some of my work done, I couldn't handle the nerves anymore. I had to read the story... When I read the story, I was relieved to hear that only the shooter perished... but the thought of the 3 people being hurt and the shooter being dead haunted me...   Then I started wondering why I cared for those people who perished... I've heard of countless shootings, even nearby in Toronto and Hamilton! I was accustomed to hearing of people who abused their guns and fired recklessly at innocent bystanders... And yet, this shooting was different... My friend was at the university... She could have been at the library at midnight... She could have been right beside the line of fire... The man could have kept on rampaging to other areas in the university, kinda like how the man in Ottawa rampaged to Parliament Building after killing a military volunteer last month...   An hour after I read the story, I had to see if she was alright... I sent an email to see how she was doing... To hear that she and the rest of the university are shell-shocked after the shooting... it made me want to write this blog post.   Right now, my heart feels tired. I had to save my fears for the weekend because I didn't want to share them in front of the lab or my other peers... To think that it was possible she was at the library or near it that night... It hurts. To think that someone I who I really cared for was in danger and reeling... it hurts. To think that I can't do more to care for her than a simple email... it hurts.   Events like this... they take lives... even though we read the news as just a number, those numbers... are still human beings. Seeing them hurt... or hearing those bangs of a gun... or even just being near the scene of a crime... it's horrific... terrifying... traumatic...   I end by just asking you all to think of all events like this... those victims aren't just numbers... they're people. Imagine if you had someone you really cared for hurt by an incident like this... It's an awful feeling that I pray you all never have to go through.

My First MLP Posters!

Oh what a frabjous day this is! The university I attend had a poster show where we could buy posters below $10.00 each. You can imagine what I did when I encountered not one, but two MLP posters...         Yes. I bought two MLP posters! The best part? I think one of the store cashier people... I think he was a brony. His fellow worker was joking about him wanting an MLP poster. Oh! I also managed to get another poster for my favourite football team ever. Can you guess which it is?         It was a great way to get started with poster collecting to say the least!

The MLPF World Cup is back.

Well, it's not exactly as the title says, but the World Cup is indeed coming back for 2017, and not 2018, as 2017 will be a year of celebrating the completion of my Masters Degree in Biology. I have many things planned for the 2017 MLPF World Cup, but I need everyone's help! The information about the 2017 MLPF World Cup can be found below.   Basic information The 2017 MLPF World Cup will have the exact same format as the 2014 MLPF World Cup. However, there are plans to significantly change the qualification format, the rounds that are required to trim the character roster for the World Cup. In total, 160 characters will have a chance to qualify for the 2017 MLPF World Cup that is meant for only 32 characters. Don't worry about the qualification process. @PE Brony and I will handle the logistics that come with this. I will also handle the 2017 MLPF World Cup Draw, a livestream even where you get to see which characters get drawn into which World Cup groups for the Group Stages. It will be held here on the forums in March 2017. I can change the month so that the most people can watch the event.   The World Cup will begin in June 2017. The Qualifying Process will begin in September 2016 and will probably end by the year's end.   Although the event is still 3 years away, I need your help with two things!   First, I need you guys to decide where the World Cup will be held. You have 2 choices: Equestria and Trotsia, the ponified Russia. Here are the locations of the World Cup games if the World Cup were held in Equestria and Trotsia:       Second, I need lots of help from artists and musicians alike. I need the following things for a World Cup to be artistically pleasing and captivating. Some of these things I never got, most notably the trophy! 2017 World Cup Banner
2017 World Cup Poster
2017 World Cup Tables (like the ones Flipturn made for me)
2017 World Cup Mascot
2017 World Cup Trophy
2017 World Cup Logo
2017 World Cup Song
2017 World Cup Draw Music
The 2014 MLPF World Cup was a blast, but let's make sure the 2017 MLPF World Cup is even better.

Musical Numbers that Need PMVs!

In short, with all the PMVs that have gone out, I'm surprised there aren't more for musical number! I can definitely see PMVs for the following musical numbers, and here's my idea that will go along with it!   1. MAKE 'EM LAUGH (From Singin' in the Rain)     Just imagine Cheese Sandwich trying to make people laugh with his party antics all over Equestria. Imagine him singing this to Pinkie Pie as they both concoct a plan to throw the best part Equestria's ever seen. Just imagine Cheese Sandwich doing this as he sings!   2. MATCHMAKER (From Fiddler on the Roof)       Just imagine the CMCs singing about finding their cutie mark instead of a future stallion... Although... I COULD imagine them singing about it when they're older... I can see them prancing about like this when they sing though...   3. I GOT RHYTHM (From Girl Crazy and Crazy for You) Let's say in the future that Applejack finds a stallion to love... Let's say the Apple Family all came over to celebrate... this is what would happen at the end of the number, after all the dancing :   4. WILLKOMMEN (From Cabaret)     Just imagine the changelings at a night club in the midst of a Queen Chrysalis dictatorship... They're preparing an invasion of Equestria, but the changelings themselves are feeling disappointed at their situation... (Well the changelings wouldn't be raving like this, but you can imagine a 1930s bar in Nazi Germany right?)     5. CONSIDER YOURSELF (From Oliver)     I can definitely see Pipsqueak being the Artful Dodger and Truffle Shuffle being Oliver in this PMV! And then there will be a whole crowd of foals and ponies coming out to sing together about being welcome in Manehattan! xD     BONUS: CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO (From Sun Valley Serenade)       I know this isn't a musical number, but that's why I made this one a bonues! Just imagine the Friendship Express chugging along to this tune! Let's have the Ponyville residents sing about their travels across Equestria while we're at it!

I can feel my whole life changing...

As the summer comes to an end, I began to realize just how much things will change for me beginning in less than 2 weeks. On September 1st, I'm heading off to graduate school to begin what will become my life. All around me, I can hear people so excited for me as I go off into a world where I can learn something new. I personally am excited to be able to work with water contamination and finding newer and faster ways to detect dangerous bacteria and viruses in our waters. I won't go too much into that since it can get quite complicated, but it's certainly exciting.   At the same time... My heart is filled with fear... with sadness... and with hopelessness.. Socially, I won't really have much time for anyone else other than my research. I've been laid with a huge task by my supervisor as well, since he basically wants me to lead the lab by teaching all these techniques to his undergraduate and new graduate students next year. I feel a heavy burden with this... even though I am deeply honoured by his gesture... I am also sad, not just because I feel I won't have much free time, but because I feel that I won't be able to maintain the friendships that I've held dear to me...   Look, I know what you're thinking. These feelings of sadness and hopelessness shouldn't be there... and I know they shouldn't... but they just keep coming back to me... They come spontaneously, and the fears that stem from graduate school, my piano performances, and my relationships... they haunt me. The thought of graduate school taking up the vast majority of my time is frightful... I have so many responsibilities from my supervisor as a future research leader, my grant as I need to complete my project for my degree, from the department because I'm going to become a teaching assistant, from my closest friends because I want to be there for them, from my piano teacher because I want to do well on my piano exam this Saturday, my conductor since I need to perform Rach2 as well as possible as a finale, and from people I don't want to specify here because they're so close to me...   I feel so hung dry where I am... Everyone's expecting so much from me... and yet I'm not allowed to expect anything from anyone else... I feel so weak... so powerless... I used to be in a world where I was in a bubble during my undergraduate education. Everyone was kind, and it was like an oasis for me... Now, I see a much more cruel world filled with little hope... And here I am... just someone so tiny... being herded with so much expectation... and to compete for scholarships and for places... I can even see my friends from that bubble leave me... and the friends here... they leave me too... I'm all alone... and here I am, having to shoulder all this weight... I haven't felt this much pressure... and I haven't felt this fearful in my life...   What am I going to do...

MLPF March Madness to MLPF Champions League (TENTATIVE)

Hey guys... I need your help with something.   Just today, the current host of March Madness has decided to leave MLPForums and move on. With this, he he also left March Madness without a host. It's a more compact World Cup where ponies undergo voting battles like we did for the 2014 MLPF World Cup.   I am personally in no mood to host anything like the World Cup again for at least 2 years. I will be more than willing to help organize the schedule and format, but I need someone else to execute the plan. They would have to keep track of ALL results, ensure that the tournament runs safely and peacefully, and ensure that as much of the forums are involved as possible, whether it be through art, music, or promotion.   I am also welcome to feedback about March Madness! What improvements do you want to see with March Madness? I was thinking of employing the World Cup format again, but I want to make differences to the qualification process and calling the tournament the MLPF Champions League. The major characters will automatically qualify, but the background characters will have to fight it out. Once that's done, I'll perform the MLPF Champions League draw and let someone else run the tournament as stated previously.   So... what do you guys think?

I find these fun to do.

I don't know why, but I'm suddenly feeling the urge to give a shout out to many members of MLPF. So here goes nothing. I challenge you to make a song out of this... I did something really regrettable, and I'm sorry about it.

I feel that at this point, after seeing my most recent status update go red, I realized I made a hug mistake. I lashed out at people who were deeply involved with the World Cup way back this past winter, and I regret it.   I took some time off my laptop to the advice of a friend of mine and realized that I had this anger welling up in me for an extended period of time since the World Cup came on hiatus on March. I faced much adversity trying to raise awareness about the tournament, whether it be posting status updates or creating the interview series. I was angry about the fact the Fluttershy fans were all begging me to be involved with Fluttershy's Last 8 match with Applebloom while completely ignoring my pleas to look at my thread which was hopefully to become a large forum-wide event everyone could enjoy. I also felt really angry that people were leaving the forums left and right and forgetting about the pledges they made to me to stick through to the World Cup and support their favourite pony. With my last status update, it is true that Flipturn assured me that the members (including him) would stick around for the World Cup (you can see his post in the World Cup thread on early April here:   I believed him. I thought the tournament would really soar and make everyone happier. With all the sadness and anger that populated the forums in recent months, I wanted to be the change by using the tournament I created. The past month, it looked like people just didn't care about the event, given the dearth of activity on the thread and the forums in the general. What made matters worse was that when I tried to seek advice, people just didn't understand how much effort I put in to making the tournament happen. People tried their best to calm me down, but in reality, it wasn't working. I didn't want empty words anymore, and the members I mentioned on the status update were just some of the people who didn't follow through on their word to helping me make the forums a better place. Flipturn's permanent departure was the trigger. I had been patient so long with this, but nothing came out of it. I had enough.   Regardless, I shouldn't have been angry. It wasn't the best way for me to express myself coherently and thoughtfully. In my anger, I forgot that people remembered the World Cup from way back in December when there were hundreds of votes pouring in anyway. I forgot about the flags and the fact people gave interviews in the first place for me. And I forgot that people did indeed try to start up the hype train as my friend did.   Well, seeing that my status update got red, I'll be accepting the warning. I'll still run the tournament, and I would like to apologize to all the members I offended.   Flipturn, you go and have the best of luck wherever you go. I'm sorry for calling you out like that in an attempt to tarnish you. Thanks a lot for making the World Cup tables for me while you were still here.   Ghostfacekiller, I'm sure you had a lot of support but are now withdrawing it due to my anger. I'm sorry for lashing at you. You showed you cared on the hype thread and I betrayed you in that regard. Sugar Cube, I'm sorry for forgetting.   Sugar Cube, I was a little angered that you didn't tell me about your mom's condition, but it wasn't an excuse. I'm sorry. I should have remembered all the times you helped me with Jaimie and how preoccupied you were with life's issues.   Budding Night, I know you went through a bout of depression recently. I'm sorry about that too. I hope you can still finish that interview though.   And to everyone else. All I wanted was reassurance. It was 2 weeks before the World Cup, and the soccer fans are very excited about the World Cup. I got mad because I was wondering where you guys were. After all, I made this for you guys. But still, I'm sorry if you genuinely cared. I should have remembered... you don't always have to be outspoken about your support towards something to have it. But... at least a little notice that you were excited would be much appreciated?   Well... I guess that's all for me tonight. Mods, do what you need to do. I'm sorry.

Classical Pieces for the characters of MLP: Part 1

I was just listening to Aaron Copland's "Hoe-down" from his ballet "Rodeo" and I was wondering, "Wow... it fits the Apple Family really well..." So that got me thinking. Why not I associate all the major characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with a classical piece?   Now... let's get started.   The Apple Family The classical piece I chose for this one is definitely Aaron Copland's "Rodeo". It's a ballet that specifically takes place in the Wild West, starring a young cow-girl and a bunch of cowboys. Sure Applejack and the family aren't cowboys, but they certainly represent the Wild West and the South in a very appealing manner. In particular, I chose "Hoe-Down" because you can imagine the entire Apple Family dancing about during their Apple Family Reunion. It fits them so well! Have a listen! Imagine the fiddles playing about and all the stomping of the hooves as the family dances.     Princess Celestia I chose the Overture to "Rosamunde" by Franz Schubert for this one. It has a very regal feel to it, and it shows off the wisdom and might that a Princess exerts. Speaking of princesses, "Rosamunde" was a permanently forgotten play that features Rosamunde, a Cypriot princess. She was supposed to have a certain flair and exuberance about her, and that reminded me a lot of Princess Celestia.     Queen Chrysalis I know this might be a bit crazy, but I thought of the Danse Boheme from Carmen by Georges Bizet, but consider the following. Like Carmen, Queen Chrysalis is very seductive. For goodness sales, Queen Chrysalis can shape-shift like all the other changelings. Like Carmen, she also gains momentum and leeway by sucking from the romantic love of the men. You can also imagine Queen Chrysalis dancing to her victory had she finally taken over Equestria by sucking on everyone's love. And by the way, both characters experience a tragic end because of their lusts.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJjESIjc-Jo   Twilight Sparkle Imagine this. Twilight Sparkle has just ascended into princess status. She has just become an alicorn after solving the puzzle that Starswirl the Bearded never solved. Now she is given a royal entrance like none other and the procession she receives culminates into her receiving the golden crown that reigns her (Eventually) the Princess of Friendship. Everypony is there from all over Equestria to witness this ascension in Canterlot, including the Mane 6! Imagine all this as you listen to The First Movement from Beethoven's "Emperor Concerto"     Discord This piece has a lot of trickery and devilishness in it. It also has a lot of emotional motifs that are brought to light by the soft, melodic passages. You can hear the storyline of Discord in MLP unfold from the beginning. Beginning as a character of chaos, Discord is taught the magic of friendship slowly by Fluttershy. At the Season 4 finale however, Discord reverts to his chaotic ways, wreaking havoc to all of Equestria. At the end however... well, it matches the Season 4 ending really well. So here it is. Chopin's "Scherzo no. 2 in b flat minor, Op. 31"     Rarity For some reason, I've always associated Rarity with flair, with style, and with grace. At the same time, she has this inner strength that doesn't make her a pansy. She's one to love the latest styles and trends, but at the same time, she has a strong and lovely heart to go with it, making her a solid character who isn't all just fluff. I feel that the entirety of Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 21 in C major fits her really well. Mozart too was filled with flamboyance and style in his pieces. At the same time, he has chordal strength and his pieces require much precision for them to be perfect, like Rarity and her clothes. Both characters' attention to detail are over the top, but the perfection allows their respective works to glitter.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCYycVNrLTI   Fluttershy Fluttershy loves animals. She's very graceful. She's very quaint, very humble, and very kind. She's also very charming and beautiful in her own way. Just like a swan. They're not the strongest of ponies, but they're very beautiful. Camille Saint-Saen's "The Swan" from "Carnival of the Animals" not only fits her love of animals well, but also her gracefulness.     Well those are just some of the pieces I thought of for these characters. I'll probably be adding another part if this blog post becomes popular. Anyway, enjoy the pieces!

Why I want to host the 2014 MLPF World Cup.

Now to replace negative thoughts with positive attitudes. Enough of last night. I got mad at my beloved Toronto Raptors getting scrubbed by the Brooklyn Nets by a combination of poor play, lack of heart, and rigged refereeing. It blew a fuse in me and it transferred my anger from the game to the vitriol I saw on my blog post when analyzing Group F of the MLPF World Cup (the comment has since been deleted).   Now for the first reason I wanted to host the event. I'm really passionate when it comes to healthy competition. It's a way to bring people together and to encourage them to contribute to the competition within the rules that were placed. It's a way for someone to feel like they're a part of the team. In this case, you want to be part of the gentle "Fluttershy" camp or the "classy" pack in Octavia. Maybe you want to be part of the Apple Family or even the Changeling Empire. Maybe you sympathize with the Lunar Republic or have a tinkering for liveliness in Pinkie Pie's camp. Regardless of the team, contributing to their success is something we love to feel when we compete. It makes us feel worthwhile, even if the contribution seems small.   Nevertheless, the biggest reason I wanted to host the event is the potential to bring people together. When you compete against different countries in the FIFA World Cup, you meet people of all sorts of backgrounds. While the football pitch will definitely be the ground for hostile competition at times, at the end of the day, people came together, shook hands with each other, and learned about each other. It's the same with the MLPF World Cup and the type of attitude I sought to foster. You see how much fans love their character and you can see the effort placed into drawing comics and pictures of their favourite characters. The fan-art on MLPF, no, BRONYDOM is stunning.   That's the type of spirit I want to see at the World Cup. Lots of really nice fan-art that isn't NSFW. People making new friends because they found lots of other passionate fans on MLPF. People having a voice and feeling like they contributed to something really cool.   I hope you enjoy the 2014 MLPF World Cup.

It's finished...

Well well... It seems that I've finally completed my undergraduate education. I'm going to have an Honours BsC diploma in Biology up my wall to show for all my efforts... It's been a tough, yet life-changing four years. I've grown a lot as a person, learning a lot about research, relationships, and recreation.   Research wise, I learned a lot about the microscopic world that biology has to offer. I've grown to appreciate all the complexities of life and how much it helps to keep our well-being intact. From endocrine disorders to mental diseases, I wanted to find new ways to understand it and provide newer and better ways to alleviate disease.   I also built a lot of friendships in that short time span. They all helped me grow in some way, whether it be helping each other with homework or teaching me about life in general. And I also have to say, even though my romance with Jaimie ended badly, I still learned a lot about relationships and patience from that. This past year, I went through a lot of crap in this area, but I came out a much stronger person from it.   Finally, there was recreation. I found MLPF, no MLP:FiM when I first came for undegraduate studies at Redeemer. I was also able to grow under my piano teacher, who was my mentor in many ways. He helped me out only with music, but also with the above two. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be where I am right now...   As I prepare to receive my diploma next month, I think about all the memories I had with all my friends. All the amazing times I had on MLPF and with My Little Pony in general. And the development of my musical abilities. That I can't forget. As I venture towards the future and graduate studies in Biology, I'll certainly miss all of them. I hope I can see all my friends and my graduating class after graduation, but at the same time, there's a whole new world out there...   It's a bittersweet moment to be done undegraduate studies, but I'm sure the future has a lot more to offer than I think...
