Blue The Pikachu

blog-0815227001410657359.pngDue to the Japanese release of the latest installment, Super Smash Bros. For 3DS, I decided to make a blog about it. This I going to be informative and opinionated.

Short History:

Back in the 90s, Masahiro Sakuri(?) was approached to develop a new game originally for the Super Nintendo, but ended up making it for the Nintendo 64 to utilize the Analog Stick and enhanced hardware. He then came up with a tech demo featuring Mario, Samus, Donkey Kong, and Fox, in a free-for-all fighter. Nintendo was impressed and gave it the green light to be produced. It was intended to be a Japan only exclusive, but due to the popularity in Japan it was localized in Worldwide. Then in 2001, released as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube, Super Smash Bros. Melee hit the market and immediately became popular and a must have for GameCube, selling over 7 Million copies world wide, spawning underground tournaments, then escalating to nationwide tournaments. 6 years later the third installment to the series was released, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though Brawl had enhanced gameplay, mechanics, and graphics, hardcore fans still believe Melee is the better game in the series, even Sakuri himself said Melee was his favorite of the 3. And then in 2011, we get word of a new installment to the series, simply titled Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Wii U. In 2014, we see it's release on the 3DS, and then the Wii U in the holiday season. For the future of the series, there has been job listings for programmers for Super Smash Bros. 6 (Counting the 3DS and Wii U titles, as separate games.)

Opinion:

Super Smash Bros. has been one of my favorite games ever, starting with Brawl as the first one I truly experienced, playing it since its release. Super Smash Bros. is one of those games you can either relax and play with anyone with, or be fiercely competitive, unlike some other games if you have no experience with it, you're done for. Now I've played all 3 games, and soon all 4 with the American localization of SSB4 coming soon, and I find Brawl to be my particular favorite. It had a wide variety of characters, great gameplay and massive replayability to it. Now some bash on the game because it's "Too slow", and I disagree with them. I've had experiences in Brawl in a 4 man free for all that had my heart pounding, even managing beating a 3v1 against my father and 2 brothers, and that was intense. Even 1v1 matches I had adrenaline pumping! On my 13th or 14th birthday, I went and got Melee out of sheer curiosity for the game, and it was fun, but my god were the controls floaty! I enjoyed the game, I was good at it, but it didn't compare to Brawl in my eyes. I never really played that much in the 64 version, so I can't really say a whole lot about it. Now for characters. In all games, I find myself particularly attracted to the Star Fox crew, in Melee my favorites were Fox and Falco, and in Brawl my favorite was Wolf. (R.I.P Wolf: Never forget... ;-; ) Fox and Falco had that feeling of strike fast and hard, and I loved it, but Wolf hit the hardest and didn't move extremely too fast. Wolf has helped me win countless matches, hell, even helped me and a friend break the World Record for fastest 10 man brawl completion from 2010 (21.23 sec, broke it at 17.24, I realize some have done it way faster, but I like my feeling of accomplishment, even though we never sent in a submission. XD) With the 4th installment on its way, I have high hopes for it.

What are your favorite characters? What was your favorite game?

I was personally drawn to Peach, Fox, Ness, Ice Climbers, and Bowser in Melee with the addition of Wario, R.O.B., Olimar, and Diddy in Brawl (though we don't talk about Brawl, because it sucked).
