Huh. What was a metal stake doing in the middle of nowhere?

It looks nice, though I imagine it was a bit cold.

what's at the top of the metal stake?

i personally prefer hiking in actual mountains, or at least above elevations of 7,000 feet. up among the spruce and aspens... it's beautiful.

Above the stake is a metal ring. 

I also prefer walking up high in the mountains, however, since this was a class in school, we of course must take the safest routes and if weather doesn't allow it, we must walk somewhere else :/
