I am in no way a poetess, but these are just some thoughts I had about the riots taking place in Baltimore -- that so happened to come out as a poem and I just went with it.
Dear Baltimore,
My heart breaks that you are so sad;
I see past the anger and I understand why your mad.
You're fed up with the way you've been treated;
Another black death is again repeated.
You need an outlet to release your rage;
You want freedom from this cage
Of oppression, violence, and the like;
You're tired of sitting hands; you're ready to fight!
But wait! There's gotta be another way;
Violence, arson, and looting is not okay.
I know it feels right, but it is very wrong;
You'll find you've done more harm than good all along.
So dear Baltimore, I hope that you hear me;
Think twice about what you're doing --
Because the whole world is watching.
Enough destruction has been had;
Instead, work towards the future, and hold solemnly to the past.
Strive for a better future for your children;
Not leave your own community in desolation and ruin,
Dear Baltimore.
