My Top 10 Least Favorite Episodes of MLP:FiM (redone)

Same thing as My Top 10 Favorite Episode list, while I made my old Top 10 Least Favorites list in late 2014, things have simply.. changed. So, with that said, let's get started!1

This review comes from the opinions of the poster himself. This does not reflect the opinions of the rest of the Brony community.

10. The Ticket Master (S1E3)
Five_friends_and_only_two_tickets_S01E03.png
While I wouldn't say it's a bad episode, or even a mediocre episode, it's still incredibly.. meh. Because, simply, the entire conflict could've been avoided in 2 ways. Celestia could've simply given her 7 tickets (cuz spike) in the first place (so much for "watching her from her very first day"), or she could've written back Celestia in the first place after realizing all her friends wanted to go to the Gala. In fact, that was actually pointed out in the episode. Not to mention, all the favors her friends did for her made the episode feel poorly paced and way too stretched out, and it made me feel bored real fast. It had some nice humor and gags here and there, but otherwise, the episode's plot and pacing felt incredibly clunky.

9. The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 (S2E15)
Crowd_looking_at_the_Super_Speedy_Cider_Squeezy_6000_S2E15.png
WHAT WAS I THINKING WHEN I GAVE THIS EPISODE A 9.5 OUT OF- Okay, enough of that crap. But, anyway, I'll give this episode credit for at least referencing the "Henry Ford" tale, and developing Applejack in a good way. But otherwise, it had A LOT of problems. First of all, there was the rather cruel and mean-spirited running gag of Rainbow Dash not being able to get cider, and with Pinkie Pie not even caring at all about her not getting cider and realizing what's wrong. And the entire plot feels incredibly forced, because the Apple Family could've just simply kicked the Flim Flam Brothers off of their farm, and what was the actual point of Applejack writing a letter to the princess if, as she said, SHE DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING?

8. Appleoosa's Most Wanted (S5E6)
The_Crusaders_meet_Trouble_Shoes_S5E6.png
Well, not every Season 5 episode can be a winner! Out of the Season 5 episodes we've gotten so far, this is probably the first (and only) one that's fallen flat for me. I wasn't too big on Bloom and Gloom either, but I still have to say that one at least had heart and other charm to it. Heck, I'm not even looking forward to Slice of Life, the 100th episode, but I still have a feeling they might at least make something good out of it. This one though just felt like another failed filler episode. First of all, the humor and plot overall felt incredibly dull. I mean, most of the episode I seriously just felt bored watching it. But that's not the main problem with this episode. It's the fact that Troubleshoe's Cutie Mark is intended that he's supposed to be something people laugh at. Um.. wat. So basically, you're telling me that his entire destiny is supposed to be laughed at..? Why would ANYONE want that as their destiny? And what if he was kicked off the rodeo clown team? Not to mention the town's flawed laws, the CMC going back to their Stare Master personas and the characterization of the Appleoosans themselves, it just makes this episode a giant mess.

7. Baby Cakes (S2E13)
Pinkie_Pie_as_a_pig_S2E13.png
And here's where the tables turn from Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, now Pinkie Pie's the one getting the torture porn.. and it's just as bad. The humor and gags felt meanspirited, and to top it off, Pinkie Pie didn't even deserve it. Yes, Pinkie Pie didn't know much about taking care about babies, but was she being an jerky or being an asshole? No, therefore she didn't deserve it. This is why people think negatively of Squidward Torture Porns, because Squidward, at least in Modern Spongebob, isn't being a jerk, and therefore doesn't deserve any of it. Not to mention, there's a few continuity errors, since Pound Cake could fly, yet Scootaloo or Filly Fluttershy (in Cutie Mark Chronicles) couldn't do it? That.. doesn't make much sense. And even worse, the stinky diaper gags. Just, no.

6. Putting Your Hoof Down (S2E19)
Iron_Will_holding_Fluttershy_S2E19.png
This is probably the episode that, while it didn't exactly "kill" her character, made her character worse for me. She craps all over Pinkie Pie and Rarity's destinies in life for.. little reason, making them cry. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. After doing all that, she's not the one being put in the wrong, and instead.. it's Iron Will who's put in the wrong. Because he's the one who trained Fluttershy. Just, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I want to ask, what if there was someone who trained a guy to use a gun, and the gun user shot someone. Would they trainer get blamed? No, they wouldn't. So, the plot from there on make little sense at all. And Fluttershy isn't even punished much for being an overall jerk, and gets off with saying sorry. That's a pet peeve of kid's shows I watch where the one being the bad one gets off with saying sorry, so it made the quality drop even more. Also, Angel's behavior. das no good.

5. Rainbow Falls (S4E10)
Group_photo_S4E10.png
Ever had one of those episodes that did everything I hate about MLP episodes and roll them up into 1? Because, this episode is a pretty good example of that. The pacing is bad, the characterization of the Mane 6 is poor and completely shoehorned in (especially for Rarity, Applejack and Pinkie Pie), and.. how were the nurses not able to tell Rainbow Dash was faking her injury? And why would Fluttershy be on Rainbow Dash's Equestria Games team? I could go on and on, but all I have to say is, there's tons of plotholes and unanswered questions with this one it's not even funny. Really, this just makes me feel, like Wind Chaser said, Wonderbolts Academy would've made a better key episode for Rainbow Dash than this one.

4. Sonic Rainboom (S1E16)
Filly_Rainbow_Dash_sonic_rainboom_S1E23.png
*sigh* I'm sorry guys, but this one's still in my Top 5 least favorites. Although, this time, I have more to say. Every time I reviewed this episode, I always focused on the elephant in the room, that being Rarity's characterization being awful. While that's still a problem I have with this episode, I finally have more to say than just that. First of all, I have to ask, why didn't Twilight Sparkle just find the cloud walking spell BEFORE finding a spell that could potentially injure or even kill one of her friends? It just feels like a giant plot convenience to make an "antagonist" (really bad choice for one, at that) for this episode, a similiar issue to It Ain't Easy Being Breezies. Another giant problem for me is the climax. Okay, it's the part where Rainbow Dash saves the day and develops her character.. but, a similar issue to Equestria Games, it's forced. Celestia was there as well, so why didn't she just notice Rarity was falling and could've used her magic to save the day? It makes the ending feel incredibly forced and leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but I've seen people bash the S4 episodes I mentioned, and yet this episode has the same problems, yet this episode still loved and cherished. Uh.. no comment.

3. One Bad Apple (S3E4)
CMC_running_from_Babs_S3E4.png
Okay, some of the smaller problems - I'm not a fan of Babs Seed's character, especially in this one, as she just feels like a cliche "former bullied" character, and ended up bullying others due to it, making the plot feel like a generic "anti-bully" story. And what's worse is that Babs Seed is let off scotfree because the CMC found out she used to be bullied, yet even then she should've been bullied worse. Another red flag. But the nail in the coffin for me is the moral. Basically, it's crapping on all bullied kids and saying "you should go seek an adult." One thing, and I'm probably going to sound a bit mean here, but if the writers knew more about real life, that RARELY works to get rid of bullies. You can't just go up to your principal saying "lol i got bullied by mcbobberson" and expect all the problems to be gone like that. Want proof? A few months ago I came across an article.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2862375/Boy-12-kills-bullied-cheerleader.html
And in that article, I found something.

The school district has confirmed that the boy's parents, who also have a younger son, complained on multiple occasions that he was being bullied and officials said that they followed protocol.
But friends say that the taunting continued. He recently left Folsom Middle School to be home schooled.

See, it's just those two sentences that prove this moral doesn't work. 95% chance that, even if you tell an adult, or someone older in general, doesn't mean that the problem will be dealt with.

2. Spike at Your Service (S3E9)
Spike_%22my_honor_and_my_duty%22_S03E09.png
Where should I start with this one? First of all, the plot's been overdone. Like, I've seen countless other shows do this kind of "X Code" plot, such as Hey Arnold and Phineas and Ferb. But, that's just scratching the surface. The characterization in this episode is baaad. Spike was never a clumsy and idiotic klutz. We've seen him do chores A LOT in Twilight's library. Heck, he's even made food and stuff before and after this episode (Nachos are love, nachos are life). So, one question.. why can't he do all that in this episode? It's never explained. Heck, I wasn't even a fan of the original plot this episode had, which replaced Applejack's role with Rarity, but I could understand Spike being a klutz there. It makes the episode feel incredibly unfinished and leaves giant plotholes. Not to mention, where did the whole Dragon Code plot come from? It was never shown before, so why would it all of a sudden show up here? And Twilight's character here was bad as well. Like, the scene where Spike goes up to Twilight Sparkle to tell her to fullfill his duties feels.. cringeworthy. Like, Spike is Twilight's assistant. If he was about to do the whole dragon code duty, why would Twilight Sparkle just shrug it off like it's no big deal.. but then Applejack comes up and flips a pen, getting Twilight's attention. So, Twilight can get attention from a pen flip, but not when her #1 assistant is crying about leaving her? Just.. what? Not to mention, I'm not a fan of the humor. There are people who think the humor is one of the high points of the episode, but not really for me. I'm not really a fan of humor if a character's characterization is bad, but.. whatever. Different strokes for different people. I also have to mention this episode feels overall.. anticlimax. Like, even when they tried to have a climax, it just felt dull and unexciting.

1. Boast Busters (S1E6)
Trixie%27s_flashy_stage_S1E06.png
Yep, still my least favorite episode. But like all of my Top 5, I have more to say about this one. Because looking past the introduction of my least favorite MLP characters, Snips and Snails and how almost 1/3rd of the episode is wasted to Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Applejack acting hypocritical toward Trixie, there's OTHER problems to this episode. First of all, Twilight's conflict feels incredibly forced. I can give her credit because she's doing the right thing, but it's for the wrong reason, because her friends will hate her if she went up against Trixie. Yet her friends are GOING AFTER TRIXIE THEMSELVES, and getting rekt by Trixie. Heck, Spike, Rainbow Dash and Applejack were actually egging Twilight Sparkle on to try to go against Trixie. I hate to say it, but if her friends are OBVIOUSLY egging her on, then why is she scared of getting hated by them? It makes the moral and conflict both feel overall forced and in a really bad way. But, either way, I still have to say that, if you look at it from an in-depth standpoint, and focus on what cutie marks are pretty much for, it's really screwed up towards Trixie. If you think about it, show magic is Trixie's goal in life, her cutie mark, her destiny, everything. Sure she gets over the top with her act, but she's still a magician. Now, there's half the Mane 6 trying to battle her and wanting her pushed out of her job, but even after being rekt, there's still Snips and Snails who try to prove she's amazing, so they bring a giant monster to Ponyville, which destroys the town, causing her to get kicked out of Ponyville, and with Magic Duel, shows that she's put out of her job and her home because she exaggerated about defeating an Ursa Major. Okay, even if she got OTT and exaggerated, would she really deserve THAT much? It's no wonder there's so many people that feel bad for her. Even if Trixie's one of my favorite characters, she can't save this episode. At all.

Dishonorable Mentions:
-Keep Calm and Flutter On: Poorly paced episode with a rushed ending and bad characterization
-May the Best Pet Win!: "Predictability at it's finest"
-Trade Ya!: Only about 1/3rd of the episode is watchable, that being the FlutterDash plot, not to mention the disgusting slobber gags and other poor characterization.
-Bridle Gossip: Forced morals are love, Forced morals are life.

Hmm a pretty good list you have. Boast Busters is definitly among my top five if not three worst episodes on MLP for what it did to poor Trixie among other things. Nice job compiling this list, Angry Cartoon Nerd.

And, I'm not a fan of Fluttershy's character. See, she puts tension on Rainbow Dash despite knowing she needs to perform the Sonic Rainboom for the Young Flyers Competition.. which Pinkie Pie was hated for doing in Filli Vanilli.

Neither situation is close to being the same.

In S4, Fluttershy's constant shyness and fear have been established, part of it coming from Pinkie herself. Pinkie ranted and drove her to tears in front of her face, and she did it three times. Not only that, she didn't show an ounce of regret over what she said. Pinkie's obliviousness was amplified for idiotic comedy, and it made her out of character.

In Sonic Rainboom, this is the first time Dash's insecurities were established. Fluttershy wasn't even saying anything mean-spirited. It was an accidental trigger, and she said it only once. When did Rainbow Dash freak out? Right at the end of the speech. And how did FS react? Out of worry. Hell, she even tried to encourage Dash after they met those three bullies once more. These subtleties make a huge difference. This is why FS's actions are excusable and why Pinkie's weren't.

I agree with most of these episode choices, just with ranked higher and some ranked lower.

Even though I don't find Sonic Rainboom as bad as you find it, I feel like the reason it tends to not be as hated is due to season 1 nostalgia.
