I sorta always assumed they did march, due to the primary weapon the guards using being what looks like relatively heavy spears. They don't look like throwing spears/javelins, and as such they would need formation work to make them *really* effective. And to do formation fighting, you have to march. And to march, you're likely to end up with a beat instrument to help keep time. Which leads naturally into marching bands.

If Pinkie Pie is anything to go off, I guess they could have traditional band instruments, though the band would have to parade around on two legs...not particularly graceful for a pony

Those are some nice maneuvers in the video! I do reckon that they could march in time...again, turning to pinkie Pie in her 'Smile' song she starts off trotting in time to the music, so I think it's feasible. Perhaps they could do tricks like that in the vid but even more co-ordinated
