I read this one out loud to the class, they seemed to enjoy it. Then again, they're 9th graders, so I wouldn't take their advice for stories.

We had to use these words in out story: Old, Jolly, Laugh, Hospital, Evan, Carter, Mother, Weather, Car, Sorry, Chips, and Flu. Most people made it about Santa visiting a kid in a hospital, their name was Carter or Evan, and giving them a toy car. I think I like my version better. Here it is:

The old walls were painted a bright pink, the festive streamers were a neon green, you could hardly even tell the place was an abandoned hospital. Evan had really outdone himself with the decorations, his mother would be proud.

He looked out the window, Even the weather was Jolly and bright, He had to squint his eyes in the sunlight reflected off his own car.

He made his way over to the closet and opened it, inside his "Friend", Carter, was a bit tied up at the moment.

"How are you today, Carter?" Evan asked, Carter let out some muffled screams from under the duct tape, He was tied up indeed, to a stretcher.

"Oh, I'm sorry, are you hungry? I haven't any chips with me, but I could pop out and get some, if you'd like!" More muffled screams followed.

"Oh, please speak up, will you?" Evan said, ripping the duct tape from Carter's mouth. Carter screamed and shouted, he was in the middle of begging to be let go when Evan put the duct tape back on him.

"Carter, come on now, you're no fun! The ogrelord would be disappointed in you!" (I made sure this part was at the end of the page, so that people could wonder if they heard me right while I went to page 2, just for a bit of suspense)

On the table to the right, a picture of a large ogre was framed, surrounding it were two lit candles, and three or four small onions, stacked into a neat pyramid. There was also a tray of surgery tools and old flu needles. Even reached for one.
Oh, Shrek would be quite pleased at this sacrifice.
