2016: A Year in Review

2016 was a year that's finally coming to a close. I started it off getting new dressers from Ikea, and now I'm here, getting ready to mark another one in the books where I failed miserably at some things. I believe I wrote a blog post about each event I will list, so they will be linked. I'll gladly start with the positives.

THE POSITIVES

Probably one of the biggest moments of 2016 for me is graduating from High School. I wanted to graduate with the rest of my friends I went to Elementary with back in 2012, but it didn't happen. The fact that I graduated with a Regents Diploma and not a GED one shows my perseverance. Then I topped off the graduation with PonyconNYC being the next day, which was great.

Another moment of my 2016 would be my acceptance letter into College. When I received the email from BMCC some time in May, I was rendered speechless. I was given the opportunity to go back to school to further myself. I was just really happy, but I'm not sure if I can say the same after finishing my first semester a few weeks ago.

This may not be such a big thing for others, but it was for me, and it was getting my learner's permit to drive. That has been in the works as far back as 2013, but again it never happened. I was able to get 18/20 questions correct with 4/4 of them being road sign questions.

That may be it for my positives. Other than meeting my childhood, Tara Strong, turning 21, and getting my Wii U, a system that nearly everyone hates, and a few love, I don't think there is anything else that's worth the mention.

Now moving on to the negatives

THE NEGATIVES

I guess I'll start out with the numerous job rejections. I don't know how many, but I applied for at least 10 jobs this year, and I was turned away from some and the rest never got back to me. I'm 21 going on 22, I'm an adult and although I'm still with my parents, they're not helping me the same way like when I was a teenager, so I hardly have money for myself.

I guess what could be joined with having no money is falling for a scam. I spent time and money trying to send my old iPod to someone who was looking to buy it, and it took @@PiratePony, to help me realize it was a fake. I really don't think it's that bad anymore because since that iPod is an older model, it no longer gets updates, and plus, I got myself a new iPod that is a newer model.

I ended up losing two people who really liked me. One was my grandfather who passed a week before Thanksgiving. I only knew him for about three years, but still didn't know him well. He liked me the most out of all of my siblings, but I never had time to see him since I was always busy with college. Another person I lost was one of my teachers from my old school. I worked with this teacher for five years, so I had a bond with them. I went up to the school to say hi to this person the week of Thanksgiving, but they weren't there. Two weeks later, I found out that she passed.

Probably one of the worst things I did not like about 2016 was being stopped by the cops and ticketed. For some time, there were stories about how males were being killed by police, primarily men of color, so when the cop stopped me, my heart jumped into my throat. That is something I never want to experience again.

So those were the major events of my 2016. I'm not sure what would come out of my 2017, but we'll see as it unfolds. One thing I do know is that I will be Uncle Jamar.
