My Favorite Disney Movie Soundtrack: The Little Mermaid

Now, I know you're probably thinking: "Sparklefan's favorite Disney Princess movie soundtrack isn't Tangled!?" and while this is true, it isn't for the reason that

you may be thinking of. 

 

While Tangled might have an adorkable lead and an exciting story, one thing that doesn't really interest me is the songs on Tangled's official movie soundtrack.

 

Granted, Tangled does have "When Will My Life Begin?" but aside from that there isn't much else that I find myself listening to very often,

besides "Kingdom Dance" aka the lantern festival sequence which is my favorite part of the entire film. :ticking:

 

The Little Mermaid on the other hand, hooked me (:P) right from the start with "Fathoms Below" and continued bringing such Disney classics as: 

"Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and of course my favorite song on the Little Mermaid soundtrack "Kiss the Girl". 

 

I'm not a music critic by any means, but there is just something about Little Mermaid's soundtrack that stands out to me when comparing it to other classic Disney musicals

like Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

 "A Whole New World" is one of my all-time favorite Disney songs! :D

I doubt any of the songs from The Little Mermaid would feature in my own top ten Disney songs, but I would certainly agree that even in the absence of any real stand-outs the soundtrack as a whole is consistently solid and none of the musical numbers feel like filler that's only there to pad out the runtime.  It's one of only four Disney soundtracks that I recall ever having listened to independently from the film.

I agree. Almost every song in The Little Mermaid serves a narrative purpose. I'm not sure about Les Poissons, though.

I feel like I kind of understand where you're coming from.

Mulan (the animated one) was my favorite Disney movie for the longest time, but I actually enjoyed the Lion King (animated) soundtrack the most.

Times have changed of course. There is a lot of tunes from Frozen II that I just can't get out of my head. But you know, memories and all that. :)
