My journey this year began as a 14 hour drive. It should have been only 12, but I've never been the best navigator. Only an hour or 2 into my drive towards Seaddle, Google Maps sent me onto a small road with a handmade sign reading, "Google is wrong. Turn back." I decide to turn back and find another route. The main concern at this point is that I'm on a major highway heading south, but I need to get over to another highway a few dozen kilometers west. I look at Google Maps and see a small but yellow coloured highway leading from the road I'm on to the road I want. I turned onto that road and all was fine for a little while. After about 10 minutes though, I come over the crest of a hill and without warning, the highway is gravel and in the middle of being graded. This means that there is a ridge of gravel nearly a foot high directly in the middle of my lane. (Kind of like how snow plows leave a pile of snow on the sides or middle of the road) I slam on my brakes and ram into it at 60 km/h (37 mph) and start sliding around a bit as my car has gravel grinding its underside and my tires try to gain traction on the loose gravel. Thankfully, I regain control of my vehicle and get over to the left side of the road where it's more smooth. The road's not closed and I've already come so far that I decide to keep going. I assumed it would turn into a paved road again, but instead, I ended up driving slowly on gravel for almost an hour in the middle of nowhere. I'm just glad my car wasn't damaged. Once I made it to the highway I needed, the drive went smoothly all the way to my destination.

Except for when I thought the traffic on I-405 was going to be my undoing. :sealed:

I checked into my Motel 6 just a little ways north of the convention and dropped into bed only feeling moderately lonely and depressed. That's normal for me though, so don't worry. :adorkable:
