A lot of coaster enthusiasts have a huge list of coasters they have ridden. However, the #1 thing that could be a split in the fandom is this one thing:

Wood or Steel Coasters?

Now I know what some of you are thinking: "It doesn't matter! They both deliver thrills!" That's true. However, with the materials, each of them have capabilities.

Wooden coasters give that rickety feeling, sometimes a rough ride.

Steel coasters are very smooth and because steel can bend, they can invert (go upside down).

Now, wooden coasters have tried (and have failed) going upside down (I'm looking at you Son of Beast :nom:) But thanks to Rocky Mountain Coasters, hybrid coasters are on the rise (stay tuned for a blog on that.

So, with a basic understanding, which do you prefer?

Personally, I go with steel. However, I love a modern-day wooden coaster that is full of speed and hauls through its layout. Sure I love a classic woodie, like Phoenix at Knobels, but a GCI (Great Coasters International) woodie like Thunderhead at Dollywood is my goto.

What about you?

I don't like standing in line for 1 hour to do a 30 second ride. Plus I have seen the accident videos.

I mean...roller coasters are really safe...but it's your choice in the end...

Wood? How would anyone feel safe on wood? I've never been on a roller coaster though.

Wooden roller coasters use strong pieces of wood and are held up with an infrastructure. Some wooden coasters have steel supports.
