I can completely understand the struggle of first introduction - often I catch myself also having difficulties with initial conversation, not knowing other person's dynamics and personality. I tend to overthink my every sentence, which makes me... rather slow and uncertain with what and how I should speak. 

And You're absolutely right - Twilight did have the same initial reaction when seeing other ponies! Yet look who she became - a literal Princess of Friendship ;-;
