The Decline of Facebook and Social Networking in General...

I joined Facebook right around when it came out and it was a cool thing to mess around with. Younger people probably wont remember Myspace but I do. When I use Facebook I only add people i know.. and when i say that i mean people i know and I interact with regularly. I have some friends from high school on there but I still keep in touch with them. I don't add my family I already talk to them very frequently. In fact i can say with all honestly the only person i have added as a friend that i don't know personally is a pen-pal i write to in France. Recently i got into using Facebook again and what i saw reminded me of why i left. My news feed is full of tired meme's we have all seen at least a million times and a new form of chain mail that will probably never go away. There are pictures made that say "Like if you love God/Jesus scroll if you love the Devil". Since when does God need likes? This stuff is very annoying. The only other things that appear are pictures of things you'd rather not see. Or pictures of people struggling with Cancer. I mean i care about these things but when i go to "Social network" I don't wanna be depressed by things like this every single time i go on there.

My friends and I have come to the conclusion that it is possibly the younger generation is the problem. I'm not one to judge but what does a 13 year old need to care about Breakups for? You will find 13 year olds talking about relationships like they know everything. This generation now is growing up with Facebook. When i was 13 you were considered cool if your cell phone flipped.. and had a camera...

I have always been a private person which is probably why i don't social network that much at all. I don't think people know just how much of their personal lives are out there for everyone to see. I remember back in 2010 several employers were coming under investigation on whether it is fair or not to judge a potential employee by using their Facebook page as a reference sheet. And some judge's said it was ok others said it wasn't. You post pictures of yourself drinking and smoking doing drugs etc and now a potential employer is looking at this and possibly may not hire you. Nothing you put on the internet is private. Facebook had to revise their privacy policy and add measures to prevent others from seeing content you don't want them to see. I'm not a hacker or anything but those blocks are very easy to get around. (I've seen it firsthand). An easier way to prevent this from happening would be .. oh i dunno DONT POST YOUR WHOLE LIFE. I don't think people have a limit anymore.

Social Networking has enabled some terrible things to happen. It is so easy to stalk people now because of what people post on their profile. Granted people aren't asking for it like some people do when using Craigslist but its still very easy for stalkers to find you. Not to mention cyberbullying and what not.

Perhaps I may be a bit biased against this stuff but still I can't understand why people don't think about this sort of thing before they put their lives up for the world to see. One of my friends actually found someone using her pictures on a fake profile. And when she told Facebook they said they didn't believe it.

I see what you mean especially, when cyber bullying happens online. Besides I remembered Myspace before it died.

This is one reason I do not like Facebook for the fact it is full of:

9fags

Swag/YOLO

"Christians"

Scene girls

Duckface

and more.

When I was 13, you were considered cool if you had a Sony Walkman that played audio cassettes.  ;)

But I agree with you.  I don't like being stalked and while I do have a Facebook account, I use it very sparingly I don't post anything that would allow enemies to track me down.  Yeah, sadly, I have made a few of those.
