The Incomparable Man of Survival

Halfblood

I have always been an avid Les Stroud fan, having watched his show Survivorman on the Discovery Channel since its debut in 2004.

Now that's a KNOIFE!

With that said, you could imagine how ecstatic I was to find out that he has since returned for 4 more episodes in what is to be the fourth and final season of Survivorman.

Now, I have mad respect for this guy. He ventures off to some of the most remote and dangerously unforgiving corners of our beautiful planet to survive alone for an extended period of time (7 days in the first 3 seasons and 10 days in the recent 4th). He carries his own camera equipment and has to make all the camera shots and angles by himself while trying to survive out in whatever harsh environment he's in! Name one other guy who does that. Didn't think so.

In contrast to this, and I am sorry I am bringing this guy up, but the comparison of Les Stroud to Bear Grylls just doesn't seem fair. Stroud is on a whole 'nother level.

"Hey, got anything to drink?"

Now, I'm not discrediting what Grylls brings to the table. He's former British Special Ops with numerous survival escapades under his belt. And while there is no doubt that Grylls definitely possesses knowledge relevant to his (now defunct) show Man Vs. Wild, I felt that he often misled his viewers on some of the scenarios presented, among other things as well.

Stroud's medium of wilderness survival seems more genuine and perhaps more practical. You can google "Les Stroud vs. Bear Grylls" and be faced with an onslaught of arguments supporting both sides. It's just my personal opinion that Stroud is better at what he does.

Anyway, I'm gonna go buy some mussels, have dinner, and watch the latest Survivorman where we find Les combating the brutal Nowegian wilds.
