I had no problem with Tank. I'm not as convinced by it because Rainbow Dash wasn't characterized that well there.

I thought Rainbow Dash was perfectly fine in the episode. I actually want to know why everyone has such big issues with her characterization in that episode

Seriously?  People have problems with her characterization in that episode?  If there's any episode from Season 2 that people should have a problem with her characterization, it's "Mysterious Mare Do Well" (even though I still love that episode, but that's because I'm me and there's a plot-ton of superhero references).
