Multiple accounts, as mentioned in the global rules, are unnecessary, and can cause undue confusion for staff and members alike. Keeping up with them can also be a headache from an organizational and moderation standpoint. For these reasons we don't permit members to hold multiple accounts and have several criteria for dealing with them depending on the circumstances surrounding their creation. What's to follow is a reference guide for mod and lay member alike, though this paragraph and the clause in the rules should be sufficient for all to know by now not to create them.
Accounts created due to inability to access one's existing account will be permitted only for the duration of the period necessary to recover the old one, after which the newer account will be suspended permanently. Please keep in mind that any posts made by that account are then effectively lost to you. Furthermore, any punishments due to misbehavior while using this alternate account will be applied to one's primary account once it is restored.
Accounts created for the purposes of a roleplay, endeavoring to avoid getting in trouble when breaking rules, getting a "clean slate" from past infractions, or anything else will result in that account being banned with points applied to the primary account. Any user who creates an alternate account will face the possibility of a warning of 250 points up to a permanent ban depending on the situation. Sound a bit steep? It sure is. That's because admins have literally spent hours at a time dealing with alternate accounts in the past (not fun and not something we should have to do often), and as stated above, anyone reading this or the rules (as everyone should when joining) definitely knows better by now anyway. Just don't do it. Depending on the severity of the offense, the staff reserve the right to ban the primary account permanently if necessary.
Suspensions, section bans, and moderation queue aren't meant to prevent an account from posting, they're meant to prevent the account's owner from posting. As alluded to above, should somebody under a suspension, mod queue, or another moderator action create an alternate account to dodge it, that account will face the possibility of a warning of 250 points up to a permanent ban depending on the situation. Again, one would know better by this point. There's no excuse and there's no reason why the staff should deal with this to no end.
Long story short, we don't mind people creating a second account due to their first one being inaccessible. Seems only fair to grant them that as depending on the circumstances it may take quite some time to get their problem resolved. Any other reason is basically not going to fly.
Once again, as stated in the rules, we understand that multiple people in the same household may have accounts of their own. Tell us via support ticket before anybody after the first person decides to register so we won't take any action against you. Should you neglect to inform us beforehand, accounts are likely to get unduly banned with points doled out. We'll be happy to reverse any such mistakes, but it would obviously be better for all involved if we could avoid a misunderstanding from the start.
