one of things that was confusing e is why the room temperature seems to increase so much when I work or create (about .5 of a degree every 10-20 minutes until it gets to about 22.5 which is well over what the heating should be producing). well... turns out I am heating the room with my body temperature D:

of Earth ponies and the legend of 'four hoof drive' as told by Derpy and Crafty Crate
“I think it’s stuck.”

Derpy, hooves back on the ground, eyed the problem with equanimity from under her baseball cap.

Crafty Crate, face like thunder, ignored her.

His knowledge of problems like this was limited. His company, and himself when he was younger, flew loads like this, using the generous physics of Equestria. Though he was loath to admit it, his flight was magical, and with magic not carrying through to this new dimension he was merely an earth pony with wings here.

Nevertheless, he had many earth pony friends, and they had talked at length in Earth watering hole across Equestria about what to do when the conveyance encountered sticky problems like this one. Horsepower was key.

“If we put our backs into it, we can pull it free.”

“But the bar’s in the air boss,” she slurs lazily, mind drifting off to her captivating surroundings.

At this point Crafty decided that it was time to show a portion of his anger.

“Derpy!” he snaps.  

“Sorry.”

“Put your shoulder to the side. Now on three, push!”

To Crafty’s relief, the coach began to move.

Both ponies, however, were finding it a struggle. Their hooves, intended for the well-drained plains of Equestria, try to dig in, but are too slick and slide on the gradient into the soft water-logged earth.

“B-Boss!”

Derpy flails as she and the wagon slide down the bank.

Crafty sighs angrily and racks his brains for more earth pony wisdom.

He vaguely recalls a conversation in a bar in south Equestria when he was only a colt beginning his delivery businesses. He had overheard his, then, boss asking a crusty, mud-stained, earth pony how it was possible to take a wagon through the southern swamps.  

“Y’see boah. All your hooves gotta grip, so when y’push off y’whole self is doin’ it. ‘s called ‘Four hoof drive’.”

Crafty looks at his hooves, perplexed as to what the elderly pony could have meant.

Feeling foolish, he tries angling his hooves in the mud and trying to move them at the same time, but the process feels unnatural.

Derpy, wondering what was going on, splooshes around the ditch-bound wagon, only to see Crafty practicing what looked like prancing.

“Boss?”

Despite herself, she couldn’t completely keep the chuckle out her voice.

Crafty’s face reddens, but he keeps trying the ‘four hoof drive’ and ignores her.

“What’cha up to?”

Irritably, he turns to Derpy.

“Will you put a pie in it and let me try this.”

“Ok…”

She watches him for a while, as he huffs and puffs, flattening his hooves out and trying to spring them together.

“Four hoof drive makes no damn sense!” he eventually exclaims.

“Oooh, I’ve heard of that!” Derpy says laconically.

Crafty Crate looks at her incredulously, grunting as he continues his attempts at practicing the strange manoeuvre.

“You thought it would help with the ditch?”

Crafty grinds his teeth together.

“Yes.”

“Well, I don’t think it will work, boss.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, because my friend Turnipseed-“ she pauses. “Y’know him?”

“No.”

“Oh he’s great, I think you’d like him.”

“Derpy,” he growls.

“Well we went to the same summer school. One day, he fell in a puddle and it made him all brown and he looked so sad I jumped in after him to show he wasn’t the only one, and then we all did. We got such a scolding-”

“Derpy!”

“Oh yeah, well, after that we became special someponies for a while and he let me in on his big secret about ‘four hoof drive’”

“Yes?”

“And he said, ‘Bubbles’ – that was his name for me y’see – ‘Bubbles, you know ah wish’n ah could flah like yah’.”

Derpy pauses.

“I’m not very good at his accent.”

“Get on with it.”

“Uh, anyway, he basically said that he wasn’t rich like his Da’ with a proper house, so he couldn’t be my forever somepony. Which is silly, because I was just a filly and he was the smallest colt in school, but you know how it is in school.”

Crafty Crate snorts, giving Derpy a dangerous look.

“Well he said he’d never be rich like his Da’ because his Da’ had a special secret that made him the best delivering pony around.”

Crafty, patience finally snapped, scoops up oozing mud in his forehoof and gestures to Derpy.

“If the next thing you say isn’t about ‘four hoof drive’,” he growls.

“Sorry boss, I was almost done.”

Crafty advances on her.

“Well, y’see he said his Da’ was born with it, and he wasn’t,” she says quickly, backing away against the wagon.

“So?”

“He said he tried to learn it, but he couldn’t. ‘Yah have tah be born with it Bubbles. So ah cahn’t marry yah’ he said.”

Crafty Crate sighs wearily.

“So I don’t get pied?”

With a flash of anger, he grabs her cap, and dumps the sweet-smelling mud on his companion’s blond head.

“That’s for wasting my time with that dumb story, just to tell me ‘four hoof drive’ wouldn’t work.”

“Sorry boss.”

manoeuvre - my brain objects to the spelling of this word because it takes the french spelling, and English has mauled my ability to spell french words
