Begged an MTEL rep to sell me a prepaid SIM card after the store closed, tethered my phone to my laptop, and set up shop in the attic of my grandparents' cottage - the only place with 3G reception. Now I'm finally online.

This is about as good as it gets: http://speedtest.net/result/2109135306.png
But it drops to this if I leave the attic: http://speedtest.net/result/2108659677.png
Yes, it was totally worth it. With that said, my Internet access is still quite limited and I have a rather small bandwidth allotment. This is all running through my cellphone, after all.

Until March of last year I was still rocking a dial-up connection because I lived in the boonies. When I had enough of that I got a smartphone and tethered it. My paltry reception only allowed me half of a megabit, but approximately 512kbps > 49.2k, so I was happy. Now that I've moved to a proper town I have DSL and manage to accomplish in seconds what used to take me hours.
