There's a reason every single new member gets an automated welcome message with a big, clear link to the rules: I know some of you might be like, "oh, automated message - must be unimportant, off to the moon with you!" but there's a reason we send it out. I don't want to clutter up too much of the forum with Read the rules!! links everywhere - I'd much rather save space on the pages for when we have truly important announcements to make.

Applejack and Pinkie on the forums button and search bar really do help to give the top of the page a unique look. Glad you like them - they had to be positioned pixel-perfectly with CSS to line up. Just because we allow obscenities doesn't mean you're allowed to use them left, right, and centre. If you're gonna swear, please have some taste when you do. Members found to be swearing unnecessarily (e.g.: to the point where they're only making the forum look bad) may receive a warning. As for the welcoming message - we have an application installed that sends every single new member a short welcome from Kurt that tells you about the Blank Flank thing and the rules. Based on the feedback thus far, Spike will probably make it into our next banner.

In the future, quite possibly yes. Right at this moment, probably not. I know that there are a lot of very talented crafters among bronies, and have seen some of the awesome custom stuff they've made. I would love to actually host an active trading/custom merch sale community here, but I don't think we have enough people around here who'd produce such items to justify a dedicated section for them. However, it's definitely something that I'd love to do. In fact, we could potentially take it a step beyond just a trading forum and have a full-blown online store for custom pony merch. Say hello to IP.Nexus.

No one said the banner was permanent. Grendo made it for us, so complain to him if you don't like it. I personally love what he did, and missing Rarity and Spike is forgivable for Searchbar Pinkie, IMO. *facehoof* Did anypony read their welcoming message?

This: To be perfectly honest, people who only want to register a name, put a 100k image on my server, make 3 posts, then leave and never come back again aren't very valuable to the community. 5 posts is a very low limit, but it does encourage people to take a good look around the forums (especially when those 5 posts also grant you 5x the PM storage space, unlimited attachment uploads, and a signature). On their look around, they just may decide that the community is worth staying in. If you're planning to stick around anyway, you'll make a lot more than 5 posts so it shouldn't be an issue. If you're not gonna stick around, I don't have a 100 KB file taking up space on my server for all eternity and serving just about no useful purpose. Besides, I thought it would be fun to have some kind of progression from being a brand new member (hence the title Blank Flank) to one that's "settled in".

I'm not an RP'er, but I don't understand why you would need to have a pony's name to RP as him or her. What if my username was Feld0? Would I then not be allowed to take part in any RP's? At the beginning of an RP, couldn't you all have a signup thread where each user chooses a character to take on the role of, then post those all in the first post of the actual RP thread? Afterwards, every player could write their posts as "[character name]: Blahblahblah..." to make it clear who's speaking. I always thought that's the way that RP's were done... Back on the topic of an RP section, get a few good, active RP's going first to show us that there will actually be enough activity in an RP section to justify its existence. Combining RP with forum games was done because posts will not be counted for either of those sections, and they're both games in a way (the RP most definitely is not a discussion, in any case). Threads can always be moved to new sections. In the meantime, use the tagging system to separate RP threads from the forum games (Kurt or I will come in and make the tag into a prefix then).

Thanks for your concern, Kaasha. It is important that everyone is aware of how things are run around here. As Bonzy said, MLP haters who join up will most likely be covered by our no trolling rule. Members found to be causing unrest in the community, even if they are not explicitly breaking any rules, may also be subject to a closer look by the moderation. We have a rule against spamming: People found to be spamming repeatedly may be placed on mod queue, meaning that a moderator will need to manually approve every post they make. They may also be subject to post counter penalties. IP.Board has its own defense against double-posting, by the way. Any double post made within 1 year of the first one will automatically be merged. I don't typically have rules against bumping on my forums because I prefer necroposting to duplicate threads. Depending on how the community develops, this may change. I wish I could elaborate further on our banning policies, but as every case is different, we will be giving each case individual attention. Generally, however, members will receive a warning via PM before being banned. The moderation will also keep detailed notes and records on all cases and all members involved. Eh, take a look around. There are lots of fresh faces here! A lot of people found us through EqD and a few other places. MLP Forums is much more than just a place for the 3DS Forums bronies to talk pony. Of the 233 emails we collected, only about 50-80 were from 3DS Forums.

The launch of MLP Forums blew all my expectations clear out of the water and well past the moon, so Sugarcube Corner and Show Discussion began filling up much faster than I had planned for. Honestly, I agree that it was just getting disorganized there. The Everfree Forest was very much needed.

While Luna might've created them, Twilight definitely seems more like the astrophysicist of the show, if season 1, episode 24 (Owl's Well That Ends Well) is anything to go by.

Indeed! We're not exactly the first MLP forum, but I hope that we can build something really special for the fandom here. The forum's still in its earliest stages, but Kurt and I have a whole list of special things we plan to do with this place in the coming future. There can never be enough Twilight Sparkle fans. There's also a special place in my heart for Radiant Historia, the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, The Sims, and a game you've probably never heard of called Pharaoh. Pharaoh was my first-ever game - a city-building simulation set in ancient Egypt. It pretty much proves that it is, in fact, possible to have an educational game that is actually a game (and a damn good one at that). Too bad the studio that made it has since gone out of business. Events that come with a date can and should be added to the calendar. Someday, with a little luck, that calendar might become a valuable resource for bronies all over if we all fill it with lots of events. As for general news that doesn't really fit a date, do what you'd do on a gaming forum: start a thread for it! There are solutions available to create a news "front page" in IP.Board that could let us have our own little brony blog. But really, I think we'd only be trying to outdo EqD at their own game if we did that (and Seth and crew are doing a fantastic enough job as they are). We may look into such a solution in the future, depending on how things develop.
