  1. Yeah, I second Sunny Daze, "Have you seen the sun today? It's so absolutely yellow!"
  2. No name mentioned in any of the media I have on hand. Which means it *might* be in one of the many comics/illustrated stories they made for G1, mostly in Europe. There's lots of lore buried in those comics, like the origin of the Twinkle-Eyed Ponies and so on. But I don't have many of those, so I can't say for sure. According to the lyrics of the song the witches sing, the stuff gathered from the plant is spelled 'Phlume', if that matters. I don't know if that was gathered from official sources, but that's what's on the G1 wiki article. My Little Pony: The Movie - My Little Wiki
  3. I have to say G1. Especially the original TV special 'Midnight Castle'. The follow-on special, movie, and series didn't *quite* live up to the whiplash bright/dark tone of the first special, but it was still more my taste than the later generations.
  4. I get really sad watching the G3.5+ Newborn Cuties webcasts, same feeling I got from the *G4* live-action performance.... No, wait... sad isn't the right word. Disturbed? Borderline terrified? Yeah, that's the ticket. Okay, making jokes aside, no, I never felt *sad* from watching MLP. More annoyed at how hard it is to find some of the more obscure entries in the MLP back-catalogue. Especially the old G1 comics which were only done in some European countries for some reason yet are the only sources for worldbuilding lore like the sparkle-eyed ponies and whatnot.
  5. So, I've been out-of-touch for a bit, but I'm still here and still a fan of MLP! I just... had some issues that I had to take care of. I'm recovering from surgery, where they had to pull a chunk of my stomach down out of the chest where it shouldn't have been. Rather uncomfortable. :) That all went fine, but now I have to deal with the hard part: everyone coming out the woodwork claiming they had something to do with the surgery and *they* can't go through my medical insurance for some reason but if I just send them a thousand dollars in bearer bonds or some nonsense.... It's amazing what the scammers latch onto. Anyway, I'm fine, and I will continue to post here when the whim takes me. :)

Mate, long time no see. I wish you the best of health and speedy recovery. Surgeries are a doozy, you deserve the rest.
To the scammers I send my Lannister regards~

I am glad to hear you are doing okay!

  6. 3.5 is one of those weird situations where it's not really clear *when* it happened. There was the 'Core 7' change when they sliced the number of characters down to 7, then there was a toy art-style change when they became 'bobbleheads', then later the animation art style changed to match that but also all the pegasi suddenly gained butterfly wings (which didn't happen for the toys), and then there was the newborn cuties.... thing. If all of these things happened at the same time, it would be easy, but they happened over a span of years.
  7. Huh. So surprised I haven't posted here yet. In real life, I go by Fhaolan. No seriously. I've been using that screen name since the days of ARPANET, and it's how I usually get introduced to people in real life. I've been Fhaolan so long that it's listed as an official alias. My *birth* name, on the other hand, is Allan Reid Kemp, which is trivial to find out, so I have no issues with revealing it here. The problem, you see, is that I'm old, and I've been on the Internet since the beginning. Long before privacy and identity security became a thing you had to do. I often posted on BBS systems and the like, using both my screen name, and my real name. Over the years, I've put art, stories, research papers, etc. online under both names, and by the time everyone figured out that you could do identity theft, it was way, way too late to do anything about it. Anyone with or without skill could figure out who I was.
  8. I regret even more missing the most recent BABSCon. I could have made cucumber sandwiches for you again, as I did last time by your request. Goodby friend.
  9. Without the old patterns, it's gonna be a pain to pull it together. This wanders into the intersection between mascot-style fursuits and puppetry. I mean, it's not the really complex stuff put out by the Henson Workshop and the like, but it's still going to be annoying without patterns.
  10. Yeah, I've been doing cosplay and costumes for decades, and these are unusually structured suits. There's lots of things out there that have *parts* of them set up in similar ways (quadsuits, centaursuits, etc.), but this (and the G4 MLP Live shows from 2011) are the only time I've seen costumes put together this way in their entirety.
  11. I found a recording of the entire play at one point; I can't find it now. It looked like a reasonably good panto-style performance. (Panto is style of English play, where the audience is encouraged to call out, cheer, boo, and sing along with the performers. You don't see it much in the 'states.) It didn't translate very well into a video though as the audience interaction is an important part of the experience. I admit to being a bit distracted trying to figure out how the performers were able to see out of those costumes. There must be eyeholes hidden in the widow-peaks of the manes. Either that or the performers are dead blind and are doing it all by rote.
  12. From Megan's clothing and accent, and the architecture of the human world briefly shown in Rescue at Midnight Castle, I'm figuring Northern California in the 80's.
  13. I'm a bit limited around G2. Most of it got released in Europe (and South America, supposedly) and never made it to North America, so there were limited opportunities for me. I did try to play the Friendship Garden game a couple of years ago as part of my 'watch all previous generations' blog, but it really didn't want to run very well on my relatively modern PC. Art style-wise, I liked what little I saw. G1 was definitely modelled after specific pony breeds like the Highland Pony and the Shetland Pony, with broad bodies and stubby legs, while G2 moved more towards regular horse proportions. I wish I could get ahold of more of the European comics that were published at the time, to get a better idea of the characters.
  14. Wigwam is derived from an Algonquin word, and members of the Algonquin tribal group did adopt the feather headdress of the neighboring Sioux people in the 19th century. Which is, admittedly, rather modern for a lot of people, but it was still a hundred years or so before that toy was made. So no offense to the quoted person, but they are not as knowledgeable about the customs of those native people as they believe themselves to be.
  15. Here's a site that goes into excruciating detail on cleaning and repair/restoration of vintage MLP toys. A lot of this is usually way more intense than what most people need to do to clean old toys, but it sounds like there are some marks on your toy that need this level. The My Little Pony Preservation Project (mlppreservationproject.com)
  16. G3 doesn't really have 'continuity' as such. The 'shorts' were nearly all packaged with the relevant toys as mini-DVDs or VHS tapes depending on the year the toy was made. The specials were things that showed up on TV pretty much at random. So they were all made to be watched in whatever order you came across them. If I remember correctly, there weren't any specials for G3.5, they were all packaged with toys. Until you got to Newborn Cuties. Those were very weird webcasts that I cannot in any way recommend seeing other than for completion.
  17. It is *technically* possible for certain Poniverse administrators (Not MLPForums admins) to change your Poniverse login name. As I understand it, it's not a trivial exercise, and at any given time I think there's there's only one or two system admin-types who know how to do it, so only ask if you are *really* sure about it. If you are that sure, I recommend creating a support ticket. https://mlpforums.com/support/
  18. It doesn't help that her mane is *definitely* green, so her turquoise body will either look green or blue depending on what else is nearby to compare it to. You just know it's not the same *definitely* green as her mane, so your eyes play tricks on you trying to differentiate it. And of course Argentina's Top Toys has come up in another topic in this forum as being notorious for randomly mixing mane and body colours, naming their toys off the cutie-mark alone and not caring about Hasbro's character models.
  19. Oh, no problem. Here's a couple of collector's sites with information on them: https://www.strawberryreef.com/Index/G1/Country/argentina.html https://retrogeektoys.com/articles/vintage-my-little-pony-what-are-nirvana-ponies-and-where-to-find-them/ http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Argentina The last link was interesting and I only saw it after my other post. Throughout the article it talks about a large number of fakies being made in the early 2004 or 2005 in Argentina because someone got ahold of the old Top Toys G1 moulds and paint stamps. I may be wrong, but what I'm interpreting what mylittlewiki is saying is that the way to tell is that the head and body poses are... inconsistent with any of the official releases. I guess Top Toys may have been wild in putting colours together, but they kept the head pose and body poses consistent with each other. And what you have looks to me like a Paseo head pose matched up with a Bowtie body pose (which explains the rather jarring size mismatch in the neck joint). But again, I'm not sure, I'm not actually an expert, I'm just reasonably good at looking stuff up (research).
  20. It's hard to tell if it's a true fakie or not, to be honest. The Nirvana 'label' were toys made by local manufacturers under license by Hasbro in very limited regions, and Top Toys in Argentina was one of those manufacturers, possibly the most notorious of them as they didn't follow Hasbro's guidelines *at all* for character models. They just slapped together whatever mane & tail hairs to whatever bodies, and painted whatever cutie-mark the particular person putting it together was 'feeling' at that moment. They then got sold using the name that went with the cutie-mark, regardless of body or hair colours. The 'Made In' and 'Argentina' are on different back hooves which is true on all known instances of Top Toys, so that looks right. However, I kinda expected a more ridiculous colour combination than that for a Top Toys. Is there any evidence of any kind of cutie-mark that has worn off? All the rest of the paints seems pretty worn, but to be *completely* missing the cutie-mark is annoying to do any kind of identification of a Top Toys Nirvana.
  21. From what I learned when researching prior generations, Hasbro originally just generated toys, not characters. Part of their contract with Marvel to produce GI Joe, Transformers, and My Little Pony cartoons, was to come up with names, write-ups, etc. for all the *characters*. For the My Little Pony Tales (technically G1.5, not G2) cartoon, Hasbro dropped the contract with Marvel, talked directly to the SunBow Studio to produce the animations, and entered into a contract with Disney for distribution. This was when they first reduced down to a set 'mane cast', and there was a distinct change in tone and presentation. My suspicion is that Disney Marketing told Hasbro that reducing the cast to a dozen or so specific individuals would be best. When G3.5 hit, things went... weird. Art styles, character lists, and toy production all changed at different times, and the 'mane cast' list for everything including the toy line eventually got sliced down to seven. I don't know why, though.
  22. I banged out two icons... and sent them to the current staff. It looks like they've implemented them, so there you go. If someone comes up with something better, though, feel free.
  23. I like the idea of blogs counting in some way. And not because I really need to get back to my episode notes blogs...
  24. Well... I drew some of those existing ones. I still have the source files for them. What I don't have is ideas as to what to .... okay, nevermind. I'll see if I can carve out some time, some ideas just occurred to me. Of course if someone else gets something done before me, go right ahead. It's not like I have some kind of exclusive rights to these things. There's a number of icons that predated me, that I just redrew to make them consistent, and I think someone else contributed a bunch after me too.
  25. Probably, but I have vague memories of IPS stripping the minimum character count feature from the editor entirely, replaced with a *maximum* character count limit in order to replicate Twitter and the like (as they were the social media darlings at the time), and it needing to be replaced by a third-party plug-in. I don't remember if they went through with that or not anymore.
