  1. @ and @SkyHeart

Lorem took a sigh of relief. Usually, ponies were weirded out when he asked that they talk straight to his face but Sky had just acknowledged it. He watched as the mare went over to another pony in the library.

Even from where he was standing, Lorem could see that this new mare was anxious about something. He went to go over to see if he could help but stopped at the door. His large body usually just made ponies more nervous. Also, Sky had asked to be excused so it wouldn't have felt right to follow and watch her whenever she went somewhere. Lorem chose to just wait by the door for Sky.

Seeing Sky slide of the chair made Lorem even more aware of how big he was in comparison to her. He must've been at least twice her . He stood as to the side when she began to flap her wings and easily kept up with her when she began to fly. Her reason was a kind one, possibly even so kind to the extent that what she was doing could be seen as awkward and unnecessary. Nevertheless, Lorem followed the Pegasus out the door with a smile.

'If we're going to be spending some time together, now seems as good a time to ask her.'

With a sigh, Lorem began to speak. "This may seem like a very odd request but please can you look right at me when you speak? It's impossible for me to understand you otherwise."

Lorem's attention was drawn to the mare that had just walked into the library. He could see that she had noticed Sky's stivky hooves but did nothing to help out. Lorem just smiled and looked back at Sky. The situation was under control anyway and he was sure that the mare that had just entered had something else that she needed to be doing.

When Sky beagn talking to him, he smiled even more. The way that she turned to face him before talking instead of talking while looking at what she was trying to clean up wa very odd but incredibly useful. 'It's as if she knows that I have to be able to directly see somepony's mouth to understand them!' Cautiously, Lorem helped pick up some of the sheets so that they didn't all get wet.

"Your aunty sounds like a kind pony," Lorem said. "Would you mind if I go with you to your aunt's? It'd be a chance for me to learn the area and I haven't got anything to do right now."

Lorem tried to work out what Sky had first said but it wasn't clear enough for him to make a proper estimate of what she'd said. When her thanks followed after, he assumed that what she'd mumbled was not that important. "It's ok," Lorem said. "It wouldn't be very good of me to have left you by yourself."

He felt a bit disheartened when he saw Sky's sticky hooves. He knew that nothing he had to help her clean up. "You might want to run them under some water to get rid of the stickiness," Lorem remarked.

The book that Lorem was reading didn't grab his attention very well so he felt a small bit relieved that something more interesting had turned up with which he could help. He leapt to his hooves. "Please Miss Sky," he said. "May I help?" Before waiting for a reply, he assisted in getting the rest of the notes of the table.

With both Sky and Lorem walking working together, the table was soon cleared of notes. Lorem took a few sheets of blotting paper and began to dab away the sweet tea. Although he rarely suffered problems with ink spills and broken quills, Lorem awkward carried blotting paper "just in case". Slowly but surely, patches of the tea started to be removed from the table.

Lorem concentrated on Sky's mouth as she spoke to try and get an understanding of what she was saying. He took a small pause after she finished talking to try and make sure he was positive over what she had said. When he felt sure, Lorem pulled up a chair and sat on it an angle so he could always see Sky.

"Hello and thank you, Miss Heart," he replied with his quiet tone. "I'm Lorem. Lorem Ipsum. I'll try not to disturb you too much." Lorem softly placed a hoof on Sky's and shook it gently.

Lorem cracked open his book and kept it low enough so he could see Sky's face. The book had a couple of pages on every one of the main precious gems which gave short facts like value, hardness and rarity and a larger section on the history of the gem. According to the contents, the book started with more common gems such as diamond, rubies and emeralds and worked it's way into lesser known ones like Amazonite.

  7. Lorem stumbled out of the door to his hotel room and into the corridor outside. He'd had a good night sleep and enjoyed it so much, he found that he'd overslept. With a piece of toast still in his mouth, he crouched to make it easier to insert the key into the lock. When it went it, he twisted the key quickly and pulled it out, dropping it into his saddlebags as he went to leave the hotel.

'Argh! I overslept! I shouldn't be spending time sleeping in on a holiday! Even if the linen was snuggly soft...

Taking a more socially acceptable pace as he walked down the corridors, Lorem looked around at the hotel in the daylight. The rooms were all identical in size and Lorem was told they all had identical furnishing. The walls were painted white which made the oak doors stand out.

It wasn't a large hotel so Lorem quickly found himself in the lobby and then the outside of the hotel. There was a large sign outside advertising the hotel that made Lorem shake his head with pity.

'What a dull font that sign is written in. I'm sure they'd attract more customers if they used something other than a basic sans-serif. Anyway, I need to pick we're I'm going to go first. Surely there's something here.'

Lorem walked down the streets and looked around at his surroundings. Baltimare seemed to be similar in size to Manehatten but had the buildings had an older, less industrial style than the ones back home.

He wasn't walking for long before he came across a small library. With a smile, he went inside. Having spent a fair bit of his spare time as a child in the library back home, Lorem never passed up the chance to go in a new one when he was on holiday.

Usually, libraries were calm and serene places of knowledge gaining. A pony sat hogging three tables meant that this library was a bit more chaotic. Lorem could see all manner of parts spread out across the table as he edged round to see what books were on offer. Unfortunately, there were no books on calligraphy and writing; just a few small books on "What your writing says about you". Lorem knew these were always inaccurate.

After some "umming" and "ahhing", Lorem found himself a book on precious gems. He had no real interest in gems - he just wanted to spend some time in the library. He looked around for a seat. The only free one was next to a mare.

Lorem walked up to the mare. "Excuse me miss," he whispered. "May I sit next to you?"

  8. Glacier sighed with disappointment after she finished her salad. In all the time she'd been in the cafe, she knew as little about what she was looking for as when she started. 'Nothing. Nothing at all. Not even the slightest bit of information to go on.

She got up and slowly dulled out of the cafe. When she hit the streets, she muttered comments about wasted time and how angry she was with anything in particular. She was sulking for sometime before she felt something odd in her head. Glacier recognised it instantly and was none to pleased about it.

'Great! Just what I needed right now. Another one of these freaking headaches. Out of anytime, right now. Looks like I have to abandon everything and find the only known herbal cure for it. Joy of joys, it's back in the Everfree.

Glacier gritted her teeth and bared the pain of the headache and the negative effect that galloping had on it as she dashed out of the city and back into the forest. It would take her hours, maybe days to make the trip there and the same to come back.

    If she ever did.

    (Which she won't.)

Thus ends the tale of Glacier and Baltimare

  9. Glacier was still sat in the cafe and was beginning to get fustrated again. The ponies she were sat near were rarely talking and when they did, it was fairly benign information about each other; not the sort of things she needed to know. She frowned and was about to get up and leave before a new pair of ponies walked in. One of them was a tall, grey, earth-pony mare who looked rather irritated. The other was a beige, unicorn stallion who seemed happy, despite his acquaintance's anger

As the new pair walked in, Glacier focused her attention to them and tried to drown out the rest of the background noise. It was a difficult struggle in the noisy environment but she was able to pick up a few words every now and again. The short snippets of conversation she heard weren't useful to Glacier - just a mention that, apparently, the stallion had dragged the mare into the cafe. When she heard this, she sighed with disapointment.

'Just what I didn't need to hear. It's just another pair of nobodies with more useless information.'

With a groan, Glacier got up to leave with the frown still on her face. She sulked away and was almost out of the door before her stomach let loose an almighty grumble. The almighty din of this gastric performance was loud enough to catch the attention of a nearby mare who stared at Glacier for a moment but then looked away with disgut and her nose in the air.

'It must have been some time since I last ate something worthwhile. I'll take some time out to see if this place has anything nice.'

Usually, Glacier wouldn't carry money. After all, there was no real use for it back home. If she desperately needed food, she could forage or hunt for it. The same pony that gave her the bad map had also given her a few bits for accomodation, food and the like. She thought about what to get as she walked towards the shot queue. Given how many times Glacier had read throught the menu when attempting to eavesdrop, she'd remembered the things that sounded most interesting to her.

When Glacier entered the queue, she found herself behind the grey mare from earlier. The pony before her had left and the mare was about to place her order by the time Glacier reached the queue. When she did, Glacier furrowed her brow in puzzlement.

'How odd... she seemed much less happy when I spoke to her last. Either she's really not a fan of that stallion and is just being nice or there's something afoot here. I think there's more to this mare than meets the eye.'

The mare left to her table and Glacier stept up to place an order. "A small lettuce salad, please," Glacier said. She figured that this would act as a small snack until she could find some better food outside. Also, it happened to be the cheapest food on the menu, meaning that no money was wasted on fancy extras. Glacier left the counter after dropping a few bits on it and sat back at the table she was at. Luckily for Glacier's new raging curiosity, it was exactly one down from the new pair. She resumed eavesdropping.

  10. From her shadowy retreat, Glacier could see everything that entered or left the cafe through the main entrance. For now, nothing was happening and all was quiet. Too quiet.

'I won't get anything if I stay out here. As risky as it may be, I'll have to sit near some ponies. If I look like I'm looking through the menu, I'll fit in a bit more than if I do nothing.'

Quickly, Glacier dashed into the cafe. It was fairly regular and had no fancy decorations or furniture. Also, it lacked the strong smell of coffee which Glacier detested. She looked around the cafe for a suitable place to sit. She needed to be within hearing distance of as many as possible to get the most information. Her eyes settled on a promising group sat near each other. Carefully, Glacier went over and sat a table down from them. She looked straight down at a menu and attempted to eavesdrop.

  11. There were several books on the library shelves about local treasures and history. As Glacier looked through the shelves, she took these books and piled them on a nearby desk. She quickly worked through the non-fiction and soon had three books on the desk. They were titled: "Hidden Gems in Baltimare", "The Complete History of Baltimare" and "The Secrets of Baltimare". Glacier sat on the floor next to the table and began to do a quick scan of the book's content.

"Hidden Gems in Baltimare" proved to be a fairly useless book to Glacier. It didn't contain information about magical gems or precious crystals but was instead full of information on lesser known tourist attractions in the area; a completely different spin on the idea of hidden gems. Glacier tutted, put the book aside and pulled down the next.

The second book, "The Secrets of Baltimare", was even more useless. In it, the author described a variety of conspiracies about the area such as it being used for secret indoctrination schemes, underground bunkers and shady animal testing programmes by pharmaceutical companies. They were all given with poorly drawn diagrams and evidence that was both mathematically and scientifically flawed. This second useless book was an irritation to Glacier and she growled with annoyance at it.

She hastily grabbed the third book, "The Complete History of Baltimare". Although it had no information on magical artefacts or gems, it still contained information that could be useful later. It turned out that Baltimare had the second largest dock in the known world and was a hub for sea trade and transportation. However, following the rise of steam trains that could take larger loads and quicker roots, the docks were completely removed and no traces remain.

She had a slightly better idea of the area but still no idea what this 'thing she could use' was. She left the books behind and began to walk down the street. She could see a large group of ponies congregating inside a café. An idea came to get mind. She took cover in the shadows near the café and was slightly obscured.

'Perhaps if I can eavesdrop or get near others, I can see they know anything.'

  12. With a determined, serious look on her face on her face, Glacier galloped to just outside the edge of town. She looked down to the map she had, checking it against the surrounding trees and river. When she felt the two matched up, she smirked.

'Nice. I've found a location based on a poorly drawn map with no compass markings on it, using only the stars, the landscape and memory to guide me. Sometimes, I amaze myself.'

She kept the smirk as she strolled into town. From what she'd heard from the pony that gave her the map, there was something of worth in Baltimare., something that, according to the pony with the map, 'A young mare like you could do with'. This idea helped Glacier come to the conclusion that there was some sort of amulet or other magic-amplifying garment that she could obtain.

Keeping to a slow pace, Glacier tried not to look like she had an intention. After all, if there was something like an amulet nearby, other ponies could be after it too. Unnecessary confrontation would only delay her and attract attention.

Glacier looked on both sides of the street she was walking down to see what rolled into view. The street was fairly quiet and was lined on both sides with houses and small cafés lined the streets. The cafés pumped out the smell of fresh coffee which Glacier didn't particularly enjoy. In her eyes, coffee did more harm than good to your mind and body.

There was a lull in the housing and a sizeable building with a sign came into view. From the picture of some books on the sign, it was obvious that the building was a library. The perfect place to start an investigation, Glacier reasoned. She entered with confidence, headed straight for the non-fiction section and began to scan through shelves.

  13. @@Pat.Rio.T.

When Patterson lectured the two about fighting, Pondah felt a bit more calm. It was nice to know that at least one of the group wasn't intent on the domination of others. "It's Pondah,"  he replied calmly. He was still a little on edge from the violence and him and the constant worry he may get dragged it into it.

As he stood idly, Pondah began to become restless and fidgeted around. 'Nothing is going to happen if we stand around doing nothing. I need to do something. But what if it angers Atlas? That'd be bad for me. I'll just stay quiet.'

  14. Gradually, Pondah stopped whimpering and quaking when he discovered that this group were not an evil group with evil intentions. He stayed by Pat's side as he went over to console River when she awoke. With a despondent sigh, he looked across the sea. The sky was bright and visibility was high but there was not a single land mass in sight.

When Atlas finished speaking about making a plan, Pondah perked up a little bit. Knowing that there was a scheme in which he could help was a good prospect to him and his understanding of most things meant he could help in some way. As he thought about this idea, he caught a glimpse of the fight next to him. He shook his head.

'This group may not be the best team on the planet. Unfortunately, it seems this is the only way off the island. I'll have to stay with them.'

Just as it scared the group, Hunter's bark frightened Pondah and he began to hurry his pace, whimpering with every step he took. He began to feel more and more positive that some members of this group had potential dangerous ideas and attitudes. His breaths grew ragged as he approached.

When he was close to the group, he heard what Patterson said. 'Phew...' Pondah thought. 'At least everyone here isn't angrry with me. Unless they're hiding it...' He frowned, hung his head and stood next to Patterson. Even if he was angry with Pondah, it very slightly relaxed him to be near him.

Pondah continued scampering towards the noise in the distant. When it started talking back to him, he stopped dead in his tracks. It didn't seem like a friendly voice; it seemed like an aggresive one. Although he could now see that the source was a pony, he began to doubt whethere it would be a good idea to get involved with them.

'That pony doesn't seem like a particularly kind one. Are they a bandit? Perhaps they used the storm as cover to ransack and pillage the airship. Maybe they have some dark intentionor use for me...'

As he thought about whether he should approach as commanded, he realised that, even if they were going to kill him, running would only lead to a slower fate. Cautiously, Ponah began to walk towards the pony with quaking steps.
