I never liked "A Hearth's Warming Tail"

The concept may have been bad, but the execution was immaculate >.> At least in my opinion.
I mean, technically, you could just sum the whole of MLP:FiM up as "It's just a new generation of My Little Pony with a modern spin on things". But the execution of G4 Ponies was just soo damn good that people en masse decided to leave their bias at the door.
I feel as though Starlight Glimmer's role in this episode is top notch. She's not so sure about joining in on the festivities but when portrayed within Twilight's reading as the "scrooge"-achetype character, Starlight's own past is allegorically referenced through the songs "Seeds of the Past" and also "Luna's Future". In the former of which you can draw parallels directly to Starlight's (cough cough, "traumatic") childhood experience which were the metaphorical "Seeds" that grew as she aged, ultimately resulting in her imprisoning that town full of hapless ponies to meet her newfound ideology. The parallels drawn are utterly flawless in the context of Snowfall Frost's flashback scenes with Applejack.
In "Luna's Future", you can see an allegory of Twilight's forcible intervention with Starlight in The Cutie Remark Part 2. She pulls her into that portal and shows Starlight firsthand what her actions will lead to in the future. Likewise, Luna shows Snowfall Frost that by trying to "erase the holiday" she will lead Equestria to its demise at the hooves of the Windagoes.
These reasons alone make the episode far more than a mere, tired, cliche "A Christmas Carol" ripoff. D: The amount of emotional connection the viewer experiences having watched through season 5 in its entirety, and then subsequently watching through this, is nearly unparalleled in all of FiM! The only thing I can think of that is similarly rewarding to a long time viewer would be the CMC finally achieving their dream of getting their cutie marks in Crusaders of the Lost Mark.
I understand appreciation of entertainment media of all types is very subjective, but hopefully the details I outlined above can open you up to a new perspective on this episode; something so impactful to me personally, that I wish all my fellow pony lovers could experience it themselves =^-^=

Life and death and love and birth and peace and war on the planet Earth. Is there anything that's worth more than peace and war on the planet Earth.

Here's a little lesson in chivalry, this is going down in history. If you wanna be a hero number one, you have to chase a supervillain on the run.
