  1. This game was actually a pleasant surprise as it kind of came out of nowhere and ended up being really entertaining. It's pretty much Orc Murder Sim 2014, and this is something I personally needed without ever realizing it. My one issue is the uruk captain trait generator can sometimes give you literally unkillable foes. I have one war-chief that after branding all five of his bodyguards and turning them and their troops against him, as well as releasing several caragors, this clown was the only one standing. Currently my game is at a point where all other captains and war-chiefs have been killed by this god amongst orcs. The game calls him Ishmoz the Slippery, but everyone else calls him The Juggernaut. Oh, right. Before he became war-chief, he took down a graug. Alone.
  2. Better Off Ted died way before it's time. Brilliant office based comedy. Also, as mentioned by others, Firefly. Farscape as well. The followup movie was because it was canceled by the network before they had a chance to get into the Peacekeeper/Skarraan war.
  3. Pretty much the entirety of the events that take place in Home in Final Fantasy X. That was just heart breaking.
  4. Is the game industry dieing? I can only answer that with the two most ambiguous words ever paired together. Goat Simulator.
  5. Draken: The Ancient's Gate has this one area that is a pitch black catacomb you must explore. What's in it? Put your sword away, and take out a torch to find out. HOLY CRAP SKELETONS ARE EATING ME! Yeah, it was pretty much like that.
  6. Picked up Descent on Steam for it's 19th anniversary. Playing the everliving crap out of it. Seriously, the game all other games owe for non-gimmicky 3d graphics, and it still is one of the best shooters even by today's standards. If you never played Descent or any of it's successors, pick this game up, like, right now.
  7. Just snagged Descent (yes, the 3d shooter from 1995) on steam and have been playing it endlessly. I forgot how amazing that game was...
  8. Dragon Age: Inquisition. I know, I know. Everyone (except myself, apparently) hated DA2, but despite having less than a year of development time and subsequent cut corners it was still pretty amazing so I am very stoked for this installment in the franchise. Also, I want to see what kind of crazy shenanigans Morrigan and Varric get into together.
  9. Boss battle music can pretty much be summed up by these two tracks. Final Fantasy 10's final Seymour fight: Final Fantasy 9's Trance Kuja fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFZVodkj9AE
  10. Babylon 5 Battlestar Gallactica (The reboot is far better than the original, though it does pay homage often enough) Farscape (Possibly one of the best sci-fi shows, period) Firefly SG-1, SG-Atlantis, SG-Universe, Stargate (The movie) These are pretty much the staple shows of the genre and well worth watching, particularly B-5 and Farscape.
  11. Final Fantasy 9. No seriously though. Some of the best dialogue, best character interaction (Zidane and Steiner have some pretty hilarious interactions) best villain right below FFX's Sin (Kuja is just so damn fabulous, oh and he also is like the only Final Fantasy villain to actually complete his end game even if the heroes undid it one insane giant space flea boss battle later). Also, most epic dramatic scene in an RPG, you know the part, when You're Not Alone plays exactly once. Biggest thing though was that the story from start to end was solid and well written, even FF10 with it's amazing story is relegated to 9's monolithic shadow.
  12. What? Four pages and not one post mentioning the Hub Network's (now concluded, sadly) Transformer: Prime? Deep, dark, gritty, it was a fantastic show for the three seasons it ran plus a bonus movie to wrap it all up.
  13. The Desolation of Smaug. This is one of those rare movies that MUST be seen in a theater to really, truly experience it. The characters were perfect, the scenery was amazing, and the action was a mixture of intense, epic, and often hilarious (in the good way). Now, let's talk about the dragon. Holy balls. Easily the most intimidating mythical creature to ever grace the big screen from the art style to the voice. Only one word describes Smaug without falling terribly short. Presence. His is unmatched even by Final Fantasy X's Sin. I dare say he dwarfed all the other characters! While I was originally wary about Cumberbatch for the role, simply because his voice generally is not what I would consider deep or threatening. However, due to the magic of post processing, he was clearly the perfect choice for the role and for once I was not disappointed by a dragon in a movie. Also, the dragon is the sole reason this movie needs to be seen in a theater. Dat reverb is terrifying.
  14. We use humanoid aliens because they are easier to relate to. A fourteen legged multi-segmented fleebergloggin that only speaks in telepathic haiku is not something most people can understand or relate to in any real way. As a sci-fi writer, this is one of my biggest problems with alien species, the more alien they are, the harder time my readers seem to have really connecting with them, even if they are suffering a very human plight like famine or war
  15. The Tower of Nightmares and Nightmare Within update have so far been quite amazing. Had a blast storming to the top of the tower with some friends and tearing apart the various champions.
  16. Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion man. But seriously, As someone that has played and enjoyed rather diverse game genres and styles, Stanly Parable was something I had not done yet. The narration made me laugh like a lunatic several times, and it was enjoyable figuring out the correct sequences to get all 20ish endings. Sure, not every game appeals to everyone, but DO NOT insult people that enjoy a game you don't. That's no better than the people the start console flame wars or the CoD vs BF arguments. Just...don't.
  17. Final Fantasy 9 and Xenogears. Seriously, if you have not played Xenogears and are into the heavy drama epic RPG games, you are wasting your life.
  18. FoC was fantastic, my only gripe with it is they did away with the co-op campaign that WfC had. Was so much fun playing with a partner in the first one. "Press E to crush Megatron!"
  19. To answer this question, one simply has to play (not watch a video of someone else playing it, but actually play it themselves) Journey. If you can honestly walk away from that experience and say "No, video games are not art" you need a good, swift kick for being a contrary slag.
  20. Oh man, its been something like twenty years since I last played Myst. Saw it on Steam recently and tooled around some in it which led to the insane idea of building the island in Minecraft with some friends.
  21. People already mentioned Amy Lee and Ann Wilson, so here, have something else. Loreena McKennitt is a phenomenal composer, singer, and instrumentalist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7Y-VBD0kRI
  22. As the title says, this thread is dedicated to all those little moments in video games that are so chock full of badassitude that the rest of the game pales in comparison. So, let's see how much badassery we can collect in one spot! 1) FF9, when You're Not Alone is playing. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. (Couldn't find a decent video of the 15-20 minute scene but I am sure they are out there) 2) While Borderlands 2 is built upon being a general badass, one particular moment takes the cake. Scooter yelling "CATCH-A-RIIIIIIIDE!" followed by Lilith's "Sup." Shivers man, shivers. 3) Descent 1 and 2. You are a badass ace pilot merc who's entire job description boils down to "Blow shit up, and escape from a self destructing mine. 4) Anytime you pull off a pistol flourish in Fable 3. So much class. 5) Xenogears' Id throwing a GOD DAMN SHIP. A WHOLE SHIP. LIKE, WITH HIS HANDS. Sorry, got a little worked up there. BUT SERIOUSLY, HE THREW A SHIP! Honorable Mentions: FF9 again, actually, between Zidane, Vivi, and Steiner, this game had a plethora of badass moments. Vivi Trancing during Black Waltz' attack was pretty much one of the most heartbreaking, and most amazing moments ever.
  23. As someone who does Let's Plays and such myself, a few tips. First off, as stated above, do not, under any circumstances, advertise on other youtube channels. Other forums, such as reddit and twitter are more acceptable, but the community as a whole frowns on hi-jacking other peoples videos for your own advertisements. And it just comes across as douchey no matter how polite and copy-paste your advert is. Views: Expect to get 1-5% of your total subs viewing a given video series. This is pretty normal and there is little you can do about it. Not every video will appeal to every one of your subs. In a related note, if a video has no views after several days, it is best to cut your loses with that series, if it is a series. This can suck, but as a small channel, your main focus beyond having fun is playing to what your viewers want. Ask them what they want to see. Getting Subs: This is...tricky. I personally, do zero advertising myself, and have just been letting them come to me naturally. A good way is ask people to rate your videos, as this pushes them higher youtube's search relevancy returns. Don't make it a huge to-do, maybe a simple "Please leave a rating!" at the end of a video or even in the description. If you feel you MUST advertise, as I mentioned above hit Twitter, Reddit, various gaming forums (related to what you are playing, of course) and such. There really is no perfect formula to this and it's trial and error. Just to make an example, I had maybe, 5-10 subscribers when I started my Summoner 2 series, by the time it ended, that series alone had earned me more than all my other videos combined totaling some 60-70 subs. It really is just a lot of luck. On that note, just keep having fun, and people will find you if your content is good. Just remember, the keyword for fledgling youtubers is "Patience."
  24. MISTER TORUGE IS DISAPPOINTED IN ANYONE THAT ANSWERS ANYTHING BUT "YES!" If you guys need a fourth, I uhm, err, EXPLOSIONS? So, yeah, and stuff.
  25. 1) Trigun 2) FLCL (Crazy guitar wielding demi-gods...or something.) 3) Last Exile 4) Full Metal Alchemist (Both original flavor and Brotherhood are excellent) 5) Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (Possibly some of the best drawn non-over-the-top fight scenes in an animated show) Incidentally, most of those also make great introductions to anime in general.
