  1. The Sonic movie is surprisingly alright, believe it or not. Sure, it's not amazing, but considering the infamous first trailer we got a while back and the reputation of video game movies in general, I'm just glad it ended up being decent.

I've heard good things about it so far. My brothers and I (and maybe our other real life friends) will be watching it this weekend. Can't wait! :D

As far as the storytelling itself goes, it's pretty easy to tell where the plot will go, but from from the perspective of someone who's been following the Sonic series for a while now, I was actually impressed by how well it managed to handle the source material. In fact, the film has a lot of references that Sonic fans will recognize. Sure, you've got the obvious ones (like a town called "Green Hills", for example), but there are also nods to characters and situations that might go over most people's heads (such as some familiar plot points and even a few shots referencing cutscenes from the games), yet it never really feels forced. So yeah, as crazy as it might sound, if you're a Sonic fan, you'll probably get a surprising amount of enjoyment out of the movie.

  2. If anyone reading this hasn't heard about the FTC's new proposed COPPA restrictions going into effect next month, here's the deal: COPPA is basically a set of rules that restricts people from monetizing online content that may appear to be for children at first glance. If implemented in their current iteration, the COPPA restrictions would be devastating for anyone who gets ad revenue from content featuring toys and animated characters or anything deemed "for children" by the FTC. This includes animated characters, especially if we're talking about My Little Pony. If kids might see it, the FTC wants it demonetized.

Right now, they've got place on their website where you can send them your concerns anynomously and hopefully convince them to revise the rules before it's too late. I'm bringing this up now because today is the last day to let the FTC know how the COPPA restrictions will harm countless online content creators if implemented in their current form. Just send them a comment (politely, of course) explaining how children's online safety is the parents' responsibility, not the FTC's, and how people's incomes are at stake. Don't let the Internet fall victim to the same fate as syndicated television. Speak up while you still can.

  3. For those who don't know, Painted Desert Fur Con took place a week ago and I had plenty of fun when I attended it over the weekend. I took plenty of photos and videos (including a recording of the entire fursuit march which can be seen on my YouTube channel), met plenty of nice people, and bought a lot of merchandise. In addition to that, I was also pleasantly surprised with how well it was managed, especially in terms of how the con staff and volunteers kept things running smoothly and made sure certain more problematic people were kept in check by actually enforcing a set of guidelines to follow, which, after what went down at Arizona Fur Con recently with all the drama that went unchecked, is certainly appreciated. All in all, I'd definitely recommend Painted Desert Fur Con to anyone looking for a well-maintained furry convention run by actual furries in the southwestern United States. I know I'll be coming back next year.

  4. So I went and saw the Wreck-It Ralph sequel last night. I'll admit that judging from what I saw in the trailers alone, my expectations were not that high, but thankfully, it ended up being surprisingly good. Instead of getting bogged down with dated pop culture references, the movie more or less lampshaded that aspect. In fact, despite its seemingly gimmicky premise, the film actually managed to stay faithful to the worldbuilding and characters established in the first movie. My only major gripe is that a few major plot points (especially around the ending) are more or less swept under the rug with just a couple throwaway lines explaining them, but overall, I'd say it's still a surprisingly good sequel, especially given Disney's hit-or-miss reputation when it comes to making proper sequels to their animated movies.

  5. Stan Lee will always be remembered for being the kindhearted, creative person whose footprint in the world of storytelling cannot be overstated. Not to mention, he was just an all-around nice guy. He always stayed positive and showed a genuine appreciation for his fans, never belittling or badmouthing them like a lot of content creators these days tend to do. He truly was a wonderful role model for any aspiring artists and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

  6. The Incredibles 2 has finally come out and I can gladly say after seeing it that it holds up! Not only does it continue the story like a good sequel should, but it also does a great job of mirroring its predecessor as well, staying true to the overarching themes that made the first film so memorable. Add to that some more politically incorrect social commentary, complete with a villain whose tactics are uncannily similar to what we're seeing in the real world, and you get a surprisingly relevant message that's reminiscent of Zootopia in a lot of ways. All in all, I'd say the 14-year wait payed off!

      Happy to hear that.

Hoping to watch it next Saturday night with my family and relatives. :)

  7. After a lot of consideration, I've finally decided to join Reddit. My only regret is that I didn't join sooner, seeing how prolific the community is there.

  8. A lot of people tend to bash the Marvel Cinematic Universe films for playing it safe and lacking any lasting stakes. If you're one of those people, Avengers: Infinity War will put a smile on your face.

I want to watch it ASAP, no doubt about it. :)

  9. Some low-life stole my bike last week. As of right now, I'm still working with local police to retrieve it. Hopefully I'll get it back sooner or later.

  10. But here's the thing: Twilight already had a purpose in the show. She was a student, spellwriter, and ambassador of friendship long before the wings came along. Granted, those character traits have gotten more development since then, but to say her role in the show was "without purpose" up until then is absurd. If anything, Twilight becoming an alicorn only slowed her character development down by having her go through the same "learning how to be a princess" storyline over and over instead of letting her develop naturally. It wasn't until Starlight Glimmer came along that Twilight's role in t
  11. Arizona Fur Con was a ton of fun. The panels and merchandise were great and I got to meet a lot of nice people. I also got a lot of compliments on my Zootopia cosplay, which is pretty awesome considering it was my first time putting together a costume that ambitious.

  12. The only thing that comes even close to being as vomit-inducing as slaughtering over 50 people and injuring hundreds more in a peaceful gathering is using such a tragedy to selfishly push one's own political agenda. How so many people right now can heartlessly mock the victims of this attack by putting their own ego above the hundreds of lives affected by this brutal massacre is beyond me. Anyone who tries to say "they deserved it" is a complete degenerate and a disgrace to my country. As someone born and raised in the southwestern United States, I certainly don't appreciate being needlessly blamed for such an act of pure evil so close to where I live. I know there's a lot of chaos and disagreement going on right now, but please try to be more understanding.

  14. I've gotta admit, that trailer for the new movie looks promising.

  15. Congratulations to the makers of Zootopia on winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature!
