That's life. No one can force you into section 8, though circumstances might make it where that's almost the only option you can go.

You sound like you know a little about the equipment, so that's pretty cool. It's generally a good practice not to invest a truck-load of money in the absolute latest, over-priced hardware. It will get outdated, and the money you've spent is lost. Comparatively, it usually delivers negligible advantage over slightly less recent gear.

Anything under a government funded system is inhumane. I am fortunate to have a home to stay in. I am only trying to pick up a better wage and more flexible hours, it can happen if I think about the better solution.
