Hermione Getting Sorted
Hermione looked around the small chamber well it wasn't small per say it could fit about 700 people in it but it was crowded Hermione had to stand as still as a statue she couldn't take a step once but she could move her head and looked directly at Professor McGonagall she was just as nervous as the rest of the students so focused on the person in charge.
"Welcome to Hogwarts" said professor McGonagall "The start of term Banquet will begin shortly but before you take your seats in the great hall you will be sorted into your houses the sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards.
While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. The sorting ceremony will take place in front of the rest of the school. I shall return in a few minutes to collect you."
Without an authority figure Hermione took control the girl beside her asked "how do you think we get sorted?" which she regretted as Hermione answered "well I'm not sure of the specifics but I read in Hogwarts a History that the is we are tested, maybe it's how well we perform spell I only know the basics in defence and counter curses but the theory I understood well enough and..." But she was left speechless by an extraordinary sight for at that moment no less than 20 ghosts appeared talking to each other she had read about ghosts but never imagined the reality.
Hermione like most Muggle children was told that there was no such things as ghosts. But there they were pearly white and slightly transparent. They were in the middle of an important discussion and barely noticed to first years. A ghost that looked like fat monk said "forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance-" "My dear Friar haven't we given peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name and he's not even a real ghost- what are you doing here?" "New students!" said the Fat Friar. "Move along the sorting is about to begin."
Hermione followed the others. McGonagall lead them in a single line through the chamber and down the great hall. Hermione felt her heat fall to the bottom of her stomach but when they entered and Hermione saw They Great Hall she cold not believe her eyes the Hall was huge you could have fit the all the books from the library in it. And it looked beautiful bright gold lit by candles which, Hermione were never melting and ever lasting. She looked toward the ceiling and saw the night sky. "It's not real it's bewitched to look like the sky outside" Hermione then looked at McGonagall who placed a hat on a stool in front of them all they had to do was put it on simple but still nerve racking. Hermione waited her turn too nervous to speak when it was her turn she looked and only saw the inside of the hat. "Ahh" Whispered the hat.
Hermione did the only thing she could think of. "Please put me in Ravenclaw" "Ravenclaw? Why?" "I heard it is where people who rely on intelligence are placed" Hermione was terrified. "I can see a keen mind for learning but there is something less obvious no I don't think so you should really go to GRYFFINDOR" the hat shouted the house and Hermione went to the Gryffindor table wondering if the hat was right.
