Here's how you hold it - ask them Relevant questions about a subject, what they like. People love talking about themselves. "How'd you learn about this?" One question that works here "How'd you get into My Little Pony" - take that same idea and ask. Because, and I KNOW, because I know the ghost thing. yourself as a ghost, they will do. Practice at school with your teachers maybe. Ask them why they became a teacher, why they're interested in their subject. They'll internally thank you for showing interest (I was a HS teacher and this is so true). If you feel you're losing the conversation, turn it back on them, or try on someone else. Having social anxiety sucks, it really does, sucks so bad...but you can make it work.
