So Berkley is developing an A.I. that will combat "hate speech" on social media. Yeah, that's not Orwellian at all.

It probably won't do very well at first, but refine the algorithms and feed it enough training material and it might be a decent first-stage check.
A lot of the potential in current AI technology lies in learning to spot patterns - it might incorrectly flag something as hate speech, but if everything it flags is passed on to a human moderator then that wouldn't be a problem (view it as a way to filter out things that are clearly not hate speech.)
