Fun fact: Renegade's primary inspiration in terms of characterization was Ciaphas Cain and his literary predecessor Flashman. He, like his inspirations, is a coward, a proud drunkard and lech, and-oh yes, a flank-kisser of the highest order.

But there's something actually heroic about him, and in spite of his flaws, he values his companions as not only his friends, but his family.
