So I got clawed and bit by a cat at work. The cat’s canine went all the way through my thumb; just missing the bone. I had to go to the hospital and get the wounds cleaned and stitched. I also had to apply for workman’s comp.
What a great day to start the week!

I garduated from college in August. I am now a veterinary technician and I have been working at an animal shelter as my first job.
Here’s my take on cats...
Most of them are actually friendly and can be handled. However, there are are, of course, cats that are ferral or aggressive. The cat that attacked me was normally well- behaved but she became aggressive when cornered.
Having knowledge on how to properly restrain cats is very important. If you can’t get a hold of the cat (or any animal) yourself with those techniques, ask for help. You may need to capture the cat with another method; such as throwing a towel over them. The best advice I can give when dealing with a mean cat is to go slow and be patient.
We see a lot of aggressive cats at my workplace. I work at a shelter so a lot of the cats we get are ferral and not used to human contact.
