Well, then here's one you might be ready to answer:
What are the best scholarly translations of the New Testament (or the whole Bible, for that matter) around? If there were a particular translation you'd use for quoting in the context of a historical-oriented paper, which translation would you go for?

This is a question I can answer!
"The New Jerome Biblical Commentary" (eds. Raymond Brown and Joseph Fitzmyer) is easily one of the best and most authoritative English biblical translations available. It also includes articles regarding key issues pertaining to biblical studies (including historical issues). Citing the NJBC is about as scholarly as one can be.
