  1. Twilight Sparkle. She's an intellectual, relatively quiet, and well spoken. Her neat freak antics might be a bit irritating, but I'd rather have that than someone who would constantly leave a mess. Talking to her and discussing various subjects would probably be pretty interesting. If not Twilight, then probably Applejack. I can appreciate her dependable, can-do attitude. Things would likely be a bit messy, though, given her work outdoors. And while she is a far cry from being dumb, she wouldn't dwell very long on intellectual matters. Pinkie Pie would be too loud and hyperactive; Rarity might constantly want assistance for trying on new clothes and such; Rainbow Dash wouldn't care very much about how she left the place when zooming off, and she can be a braggart; and Fluttershy has too many animals, in spite of my love of cats.
  2. I first watched MLP in late 2011 (December, I think), and I was kind of amused by it, but not totally of the mindset to watch more. The show had a lot of press, and folks that I knew online were avid fans, so my curiosity was piqued by those factors. I finally got the whole first season in mid-January of 2012 and began to watch it gradually before going whole pony in a short time period and running straight through the first season. I was pretty much hooked. I wasn't terribly surprised by my affinity for it, though. It felt as natural as it could be, and I didn't really get into watching the show with negative preconceived notions. I owe that to my experience as a long-time Sailor Moon fan. With an open mind (and I suppose an open heart), I embraced MLP.
  3. Tony Stark is basically Rainbow Dash.

  4. Welcome to the forum, iRilo! I'm quite confident that you will enjoy being here!
  5. I meant that space is more isolated in that there is a distinct separation from you and the rest of the world. I think Rainbow Dash thrives on being connected to all those around her and the world in which she inhabits. There aren't any canyons to maneuver---unless you go to the moon or another planet, perhaps---or wind, as you phrased it, to flow through your mane. In the long-term, I can imagine Rainbow Dash thinking (or saying) about reaching space: "Great! I've done it!...Now what...? What else is there to do here...?" I definitely agree that she would get quite attached to the team with which she was working, even if she occasionally sought to steal the spotlight. She wouldn't want to do anything that compromised their safety, although her impulsiveness could get in her way. For example, Rainbow Dash might declare that since they're in space, they might as well go to the moon, neglecting the logistical limitations. It is not so much because she would want the glory but rather due to her aforementioned desire to go one step beyond the norm. Again, I wouldn't strike it as mutually exclusive. I think Rainbow Dash enjoys being appreciated for what she does best; often these tasks are of a physical, daredevil nature. Continuing to reference The Mysterious Mare Do Well, she did emphasize being appreciated, even if she began to look for mundane tasks to complete in a heroic fashion. If she happened to stumble over success in doing something which did not come naturally to her, I think she would embrace it for a while, but the MLP narrative would likely teach her that you should do what you like rather than what simply makes you successful in life.
  6. Moderate with a slight appreciation for Hipster irony.
  7. I haven't told my dad, though I haven't gone out of my way to hide it from him, either. The worst case, I think, would be that he wouldn't really care. I am rather tempted to suggest that he watch the first two episodes and see if he continues to watch the show. It would be pretty funny and cool---nay, 20% cooler if he decided to become a brony. But I wouldn't want to force it onto him. I'm curious as to how many bronies successfully "converted" their own parents.
  8. Roman Catholic. I lean heavily toward the ecumenism espoused by the Second Vatican Council without compromising the identity of the Church.
  9. I'm of the opposite opinion, for the most part: I think Dalton and Craig got Bond closer to Flemming's design as opposed to the comedic antics of Roger Moore. All I have to do is pull out Moonraker and glaring problems appear across the board. I only really enjoyed The Spy Who Loved Me out of the Moore films. Comparing the Bonds is a tricky business, though, since all of them had different approaches. Connery did a wonderful job. Too bad Lazenby got stuck being the "not Sean Connery" Bond. Anyhow, no worries! To each his or her own.
  10. If only Jesus had ridden Twilight Sparkle into Jerusalem... Kidding aside, Twilight's propensity for writing letters reminds me a little of St. Paul.
  11. Rainbow Dash's thrill for speed and winning may not be totally mutually exclusive. In fact, it would be difficult to contextually separate them since they appear to be so critical for her character. If becoming an astronaut meant being the best there was while providing a thrill, I'm sure she'd leap at the opportunity. As I said earlier, however, I think Rainbow Dash would feel isolated in space; and despite her hotdogging and occasional lone pony attitude, she wouldn't want to be alone. She definitely wants to be flanked by her peers while recognized for her achievements. The Mysterious Mare Do Well somewhat broke from that formula, although Rainbow Dash ultimately sought public approval of her actions. In the end, it (the public) is the most apparent source of approval and, therefore, her own self-confidence. Rainbow Dash could probably be the best at a good number of things---Fall Weather Friends made her physical prowess abundantly clear---but she seems most especially drawn to tasks which result in some form of gratification, even though her fear of failure can get the best of her. This is an extrapolation without a clear canonical basis, but my sense is Rainbow Dash would get bored if she stuck with any one task for too long---especially if there is, speaking tongue-in-cheek, greater power, greater speed to be had. But she's not the kind of pony to stay in place for an extended period of time. The one aspect of her life which keeps her grounded figuratively---and sometimes literally---are her friends. And I think that provides her with the ultimate sense of self-worth. So, again, I don't believe it's solely an either/or question. She's Rainbow (thrill; bravado) Dash (speed). Take one of those parts of her away, and the other becomes a hallow attribute. I hope I didn't ramble too much on this matter! ;
  12. Like Anamaniacs or Rocko's Modern Life, MLP has the wonderful tendency to slip in references or ideas which elude the overall grasp of the target audience (e.g., the Looney Toons references; the philosophical issues raised in episodes such as Feeling Pinkie Keen) but can be understood by adults without alienating either demographic. Therefore, you rarely if ever felt talked down to as an adult watching MLP, and a child can understand the cartoon comedy and basic moral tales. It's quite a balance they have achieved.
  13. Heterosexual. There is always one or two celebrities like that, isn't there?

  15. It could be considered a swear depending on inflection, I would think, since it could come off as "God dammit it!" or "I swear to God!" It literally means "holy blue," in reference to swearing to the Virgin Mary.
  16. Geeze. Tough choice. It's either Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie. It's like choosing between my own kin! I'll probably lean toward Pinkie Pie for three reasons: she's a party animal, she plans several steps ahead of everyone else, and Gummy.
  17. "Yay!" It has already been mentioned, but it is worth linking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l1sgfLmC1Y
  18. That's rather benign for a swear word. I remember Hey Arnold! using "crap" once, and that was over ten years ago and targeted primarily at a preteen to early teen audience. In general, the English usage of "dreck" means "rubbish," which can also be considered synonymous with "crap." If it happens to mean "crap" in German, it is probably a rough translation.
  19. Thank you, Crimson! I'll be certain to keep your services in mind, since you offered them.
  20. Rainbow Dash embodies the saying "the sky's the limit," so I would think she would prefer to find a hobby or skill which pertains to flight. If her character were human and existed in the world as we know it, she would likely be a pilot or strive for that profession. But anything pertaining to speed---running, driving, flying---would draw out her competitive spirit. In short, a "real" Rainbow Dash would want to be the fastest in the world, and to do so with style. That would naturally lead to scouring the skies, since aircraft are faster than land vehicles. She'd be like Maverick from Top Gun, or Tony Stark from Iron Man. As for why she admires the Wonderbolts, I don't think it's too difficult to imagine: they fly, they're fast, they're stylish, and they're famous. Rainbow Dash has a streak for desiring the attention and admiration of her peers (The Mysterious Mare Do Well was indicative of that). It would figuratively and literally place her on the summit of Equestria, so to speak, by becoming a member of the Wonderbolts. If Rainbow Dash could go to space, I'm sure she'd love to do it, but I get the impression it would be a one-shot deal in which she would ultimately come to realize a preference for the blue skies of Equestria rather than the darkness of space.
  21. Sweetie Belle. There is something particularly adorable about the way she speaks (the tone of her voice), and she tries so hard to be helpful. That's not to say Apple Bloom and Scootaloo are less favorable in my eyes, however.
  22. Hello, everypony! I scoured the internet for a MLP forum and, low and behold, this one quickly popped up! Graced by convenience and a desire to join the fandom, I've set down here and see where things will lead. To keep my background brief, I'm a graduate student who happened to come across MLP thanks to the internet and a very good friend of mine. At first I was only familiar with the show through the widespread memes disseminated through internet bronies and the like. I decided to check out what all the fuss was about, and got my hands on the entire first season. When I traveled to Ohayocon this past week with two close friends, one of them had the entire first season and first few episodes of the second season. When we weren't scouring the convention, we watched MLP nearly nonstop in our room, completing the first season within a span of three days! By the end of the convention, I had a Pinkie Pie hat and a newfound affinity for MLP. In short, I had become a brony myself. Aside from MLP, I am a huge fan of Sailor Moon, which probably explains why I took to MLP rather easily and without much hesitation, despite the feared social stigma of being a grown man enjoying shows aimed at young girls. I also enjoy Death Note, and had the privilege of meeting Brad Swaile (the North American voice actor for Light Yagami) at Ohayocon. Outside of animated series, I am an enormous fan of The Matrix films as well as the new James Bond movies (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) and Marvel films (Iron Man, Captain America, et al.). With respect to video games, Team Fortress 2 and retro Sonic games top my list. As you can tell quite obviously, I am rather verbose, so excuse me if I end up writing enormous posts every once in a while when one paragraph would otherwise be sufficient. I think I'll stop here and end with a heartfelt "I'm glad to be here!"
