  1. To those Cleveland Indians fans among us: Thank you for Mickey Callaway. :)

  2. You've made it as a college academic when you tell your class, "Remember to read Aquinas!"

You see, this is the problem with GMT. I had a few hours of youth left. MLPF ruins everything! :P

Is this when I'm supposed to by a pipe? I can't remember the rule. Is it 41?

  7. Came for Anastasia Steele; stayed for Bob Ross.
  8. A former student of mine left me a really touching letter. It's these sorts of things that make teaching so worthwhile.

I honestly would love to have something like that if I eventually end up finishing my teacher career and teaching somewhere.

  10. Technically, admins and mods can delete posts -- but they rarely, if ever, do so. Instead, they will remove the post from public view. The reason for this is because deleting posts permanently removes any record of, say, an infraction against the forum rules. Deleting posts can also create gaps in the forum database and in discussions. I think it therefore should be obvious why members are not allowed to delete their own posts. Such an ability would open the door to a wide range of mischief and confusion. If you would like your post to be hidden, you'll have to contact a mod.
  11. The bad hygiene bit is probably perpetuated by fan conventions. Having been to a few myself, you tend to pick up on the wide array of body odors. However, that's to be expected at any event with thousands of people gathered in close proximity. As for social awkwardness, I've known bronies who are very much at ease socially and others who are notably uncomfortable when talking to other people. My guess is that one may encounter more of the latter than the former -- but no more than in most any other large fandom.
  12. I have to say, the animation in the MLP movie is a little... off-putting. There's definitely a latent uncanny valley effect at work.

I felt the same way. It kinda hurt my eyes

The facial proportions are rounder and the movements almost too smooth. They also added subtle sparkles in the eyes of the ponies, from what I can tell. It's an odd blend of Gen 4 and previous generations.

It was enough to turn me off... :okiedokieloki:

  13. Ah, the 90s. When "eat my shorts" was considered offensive and edgy. I think the general constraints worked to The Simpsons' benefit. Total creative freedom can be a curse: writers fall into poor habits because there's little need for cleverness. The unabashed vulgarity of South Park and, to a much more limited extent, Family Guy worked because those shows were grounded in shock humor. But The Simpsons thrived when dealing with down-to-earth life situations. Bart, for instance, was portrayed as a malcontent who was quite clever. He had poor influences (namely, Homer) and lacked the motivation to do the right thing. Later seasons turned him into an outright sociopath who got off on other people's agony and had no sense of shame. Many of the characters suffered from similar instances of Flanderization, unfortunately.
  14. Season 1 is a bit surreal in retrospect, as the show was still finding its voice (in some cases, quite literally). Nevertheless, I really liked how grounded the earlier seasons were; nowadays, The Simpsons feels more like a cartoon trying to be hip rather than a surprisingly thoughtful sitcom.
  15. "There's a hundred-thousand streets in this city. You don't need to know the route."

  16. I've been meaning to ask, have you been following Tangled: The Series?

The Season 1 Finale was awesome! :D

Also, Rapunzel bias aside this may be the first show I've watched where I have yet to dislike an episode.

"Excuse my interruption, my vision is augmented."

No intrusion at all! They've definitely exceeded my initial expectations (which were high, but not this high).

Also, shame on you for saying "Rapunzel bias" like it may be a bad thing. :P

  17. And that's the bottom line.
  18. "I didn't say anything about puppies!

  19. If my life had a soundtrack, I'd want Cliff Martinez to be the composer.

You'll get John Williams and you'll like it! :glimmer:

  20. And just like that, The Sims 2 starts crashing inexplicably. :(

  21. If Clone High had debuted in this decade, it would have been the source of endless memes. Memes aside, the show was funny on its own merits.
  22. Clone High -- easily one of the best shows to have ever been created. It's too bad it lasted for only one season and ended on a cliffhanger.
  23. A new semester is almost upon us.

And by "us" I mean me. :P
