  1. I would reckon most are not. The anti-SJW sentiment is more social than strictly political. I suspect many Bronies are active on Tumblr, and that means they are likely to come into contact with so-called SJWs. Of course, there are "ironic" fans who use MLP to promote things like #MAGA -- but you'll find that's true with some supposed anime "fans", too. It's done to troll people.
  2. True that. Moreover, the current arrangement dissuades users from spamming posts (like Venomous mentioned) just to raise their rank.
  3. This, more or less. Also, in the past we had problems with users copying and pasting replies to new users in the Welcome Plaza. It can artificially inflate activity.
  4. With respect, I scanned your post but eventually stopped when I reread this point: This is a straw man. I hardly see this as the segue into logical, honest discussion. You have every right and privilege to voice your opposition to religious attitudes, but your reasoning comes across just about as dogmatic and rigid as the "theists" you argue against.
  5. Happy (incoming) New Year! I hope 2017 went well for all of you. :)

  6. Went through some Tangled screenshots on a lark. This one is amazing:

The horse is giving the guy an angry father who doesn't want anyone fooling around with his daughter look. ^_^

  7. My goodness, I love coffee.

  8. I can only speculate for this year, but the likeliest culprits are lack of coordination, motivation, and volunteers. MCM has a lot of moving parts -- from organizing events to arranging milestone rewards -- which means the people (or person) responsible for the event have to begin making arrangements in advance. If no one is pushing the event internally, then it will fall to the wayside. This is arguably the Achilles' heel of Poniverse and most volunteer organizations: an event or department without an advocate beating the drum on its behalf often fails to go anywhere. Although I was never very active in organizing MCM, I did like it a lot. Like you said, Denim, MCM simultaneously made MLPF feel festive and promoted great a cause. I hope it receives proper attention next year.
  9. I'm a bit confused by this choice: aren't all those traits the sorts of things we'd expect from a wrestling anti-hero? I had the impression that Orton is massively over because he is supposed to be the loner sociopath character who snaps at a moment's notice. Steve Austin started off that way, too -- minus the "voices in my head" shtick.
  10. It works out that way more often than not. TV Tropes has a robust summary of various tropes which fall under Informed Attributes. In essence, informed abilities/attributes violate the principle of "show, don't tell".
  11. Merry Christmas, everypony!

Have you decided not to destroy the Earth for Christmas?

This is my only holiday concession -- and one I make only for Blue.

  12. Quite a few characters in Star Wars tend to have informed attributes. This is especially the case in the prequels: Obi-Wan Kenobi is treated as a master strategist and nicknamed "The Negotiator" -- but his plans rarely amount to anything other than charging headlong into danger. I reckon the problem can be drawn back to George Lucas who, while excellent at world building, relies heavily on telling rather than showing.
  13. Which section are you trying to post in? For areas like Site Questions, all non-mod posts require approval -- including this one here!
  14. On top of what has already mentioned, it is worth adding that the scale of threats has increased since the first two seasons. Once the Mane Six defeated Tirek at the end of Season 4, most dangers from earlier seasons have become relatively mundane. Sure, a pack of Timberwolves could menace Fluttershy if she were traveling on her own through the Everfree -- but even that scenario feels less hazardous now than it did in Season 1.
  15. No worries! I just happen to remember being on staff at that time and addressing that exact issue.
  16. I don't think that actually happened with the last upgrade (a handful of members mistakenly thought that seeing their own donations meant they could see everyone else's). In this case, though, you're right: I can see your donation numbers. That really shouldn't be visible for anyone other than mods.
  17. By this point in the series, would AJ's aversion to lying really be interesting in practice? Since her defining character trait is her honesty, having her lie for social purposes (like sparing Granny Smith's feelings) has generally predictable results: she feels bad about it and eventually seeks to right things. Creating a situation in which Applejack has to lie in the face of an unambiguous threat would lack tension and risk turning her into a caricature. I think it's better to play to her strengths. For example, Applejack can serve as the voice of reason for a character who has become trapped in a lie or charade. An important lesson then is that AJ understands she can't always force someone to tell the truth; sometimes honesty, like every virtue, has to be learned through error and shaped by friendship. To me, that is a more compelling lesson.
  18. I'm an adjunct professor and part-time tutor at a local university. And no, I am not a teenager! I could wear MLP merchandise (like a tie) -- but I feel that would be distracting. T-shirts would be unprofessional in the context of a classroom. It has never come up in a conversation with any co-workers.
  19. I believe that method is alluded to in the "faster than light" section. I like your description better, though, because in Star Trek ships regularly travel faster than the speed of light. The critical difference was that a vessel had to exceed Warp 10 for the slingshot method to work.
  20. "Did you heard of the tragedy that reach the man"

  21. It's interesting that time travel via consciousness is never mentioned on that list. For example, X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) had Logan traveling through time by transferring his consciousness back into his body in 1973. The mechanics are never explained (beyond the mere fact that Kitty Pryde has this power), but it clearly has tangible consequences. Slaughterhouse-Five has a similar dynamic in which the Tralfamadorians view the past, present, and future simultaneously. However, their view of time is fatalistic: they know the future but make no effort to change it. The same holds true for Billy Pilgrim. Granted, the implication is that he has suffered a breakdown; thus the fatalism is a reflection of his coping with traumatic experiences. The major hurdle I see in all of this is our tendency to view time as linear. The term "timeline" itself suggests a straight line with a beginning and end. I think it's a strong working approximation based on our experience -- but if it is indeed possible to physically "move" through time, then I suspect we will have to revamp our concept of time altogether. It is like trying to study the ocean with a two-dimensional map as the only guide.
  22. The short answer would be no. As Fhao said, payments via PayPal allow Poniverse to protect both the artist and customer from potential scams. In fact, before the escrow system was implemented, there were a handful of cases in which payments were taken without any art ever being produced. The current system, though not foolproof (because no system is), at least compensates artists and customers. Integrating dA points would require additional management and tech workarounds which I suspect would be too complicated to implement. At present, PathfinderCS is the only staff member managing commissions on a day-to-day basis; more support would probably be required to track things like dA points. Moreover, Poniverse would lose its 15% cut from such sales, given that dA points cannot be liquidated, so far as I am aware.
  23. Rose Quartz is on the naughty list.

  24. Happy birthday! Nicely done with the banner, too. :)

Thank you so much. ^-^ Glad you like it. :)

  25. I love how in The Sims 2 you can have Yellow Diamond, Loki, and TV's Frank (from MST3K) share a one bedroom apartment.

I'm shocked that YD hasn't tried to destroy Loki. That Gem is a non nonsense type of gal.
