  1. Jonke, you were and will always be a friend and ally of the Republic---and a darn good member of MLP Forums, too. It's tough to see a veteran finally hang it up after so much time dedicated to the cause. You've been here longer than most. Let's hope it stays that way.

    movies/tv Avengers Anyone?

    One of my favorite movies. I went to see it with a few friends the day it opened. The place was absolutely packed. It was the most enthusiastic audience I've ever seen for a film. I've probably watched the movie seven or eight times. I'd never claim it was the qualitatively best movie I've ever seen, but it does everything it set out to do very well. I'd say it's a testament to Joss Whedon and his abilities as a writer and director. It's easy to neglect how The Avengers could have bombed badly due to the volume of large personalities. Oh yes, and Steve Rogers is best pony Avenger.
  6. Welcome aboard, RocksAreGood! If you're interested in discussing My Little Pony, we have an entire section dedicated to the show. If you want to share and discuss your favorite pony, feel free to visit this thread. Make sure to take the time to read the rules and browse the rest of the forums. Other than that, I hope to see you around!

  8. Disappointment sinks in with the announcement that Tara Strong will not be attending Big Apple Ponycon.

      @Twilie

      Were you? I was thinking about trying to attend. If only to get something someone asked me to get from the con. :P

  9. Seriously speaking, Rarity enjoys glamor and fashion, neither of which inherently speak of greed. She can be self-centered at times, but she also seeks validation from other ponies. Likewise, Rarity's generosity would not mend well with Ayn Rand's emphasis on extreme individualism and personal autonomy (even at the detriment of others). Rarity being a follower of Objectivism is about as loony as Twilight Sparkle admiring Nietzsche.
  10. This topic contains very little in the way of content and, as such, would be better suited as a status update or blog. When creating a thread, be sure to check and see whether what you're posting is worthy of discussion, and has some substance to it. This is an automatically generated message, by the way.
  11. It's fun to mix things together and see how they might turn out. You have Story A and Story B -- why not stir them in the same concoction? And at a very basic level, folks can combine their favorite franchises. It's typically all fun and good. The appeal of crossovers is fairly strong for me, so you won't find me knocking the concept and of itself. What I do have trouble with is 1.) bad storytelling that is the product of forcing two or more franchises together and 2.) placing entirely inappropriate characters into another universe. My Little Pony has a world with a very specific set of rules and standards. I'm often befuddled when someone attempts to take a wholly inappropriate character (e.g., RoboCop) and shove them into Equestria. Unless you are doing so for satirical purposes, then the exercise is mostly a waste of time. I don't know how you could take the venture very seriously. It works the other way around, too. I wouldn't want to write a serious story where Twilight gets dropped into Deus Ex and has to fight alongside JC Denton against Majestic 12. It's ridiculous to the point of being distracting.
  12. As an aside, I had a feeling your blog's title was a "You Know My Name" reference before I even saw this blog entry. Well done! Casino Royale is one of my favorite movies.
  13. Not that I disagree with the sentiment that this was the series finale (in fact, I completely agree), but is there any official word on it? I have yet to see anyone directly ask a member of the staff whether or not Season 3 was truly intended to be the final season. I suspect anyone working on the show would be mum about it. Even if they never admitted to it, too many signs point towards Season 3 being the end (e.g., inordinate amount of fan service, 65 episode threshold, and Twilight becoming a princess) and and the season finale really being the series finale.
  14. Zoop's true designs must be known to all. When the time comes, he will revel in inactivity and eschewing workloads. That is when NewCalamity and ~Chaotic Discord~ will rise up. And I'll win.
  15. Are Twilight Velvet and Nightlight actually canonical names, or are they a product of fanon? The only time I recall seeing Twilight's parents ever having their names stated was on some pieces of official merchandise.
  16. There was a wonderfully lively one-eyed kitten at the vet's office today. I was very tempted to take her home.

  18. Twilight becoming a princess probably would have occurred under Lauren's watch. The big question is whether or not she ever intended Twilight to be an alicorn. The likelihood is low based on two reasons: first, Cadance, the first alicorn outside of Celestia and Luna to be introduced, was not originally an alicorn in Lauren Faust's designs; second, as others have mentioned, the position of alicorn seemed to be reserved solely for Celestia and Luna. Lauren also made a passing comment on Twitter following the finale episode wherein she stated she did not oppose Twilight becoming a princess. (That statement, however, was qualified by her saying she opposed poorly conceived storylines. Whether or not she meant that as a shot at the Twilicorn business is unclear.) Based on the evidence on hand, Twilight was definitely in position to become Celestia's successor, probably by being made a princess. The transformation into an alicorn was most likely a dictate from Hasbro which may have ultimate been serendipity, i.e., Twilight becoming a princess intersected with their desire to have her as an alicorn.

  21. The Day After Tomorrow is worth honorable mention. Sure, it's another Roland Emmerich disaster movie devoid of any soul or coherence; but the film is also heavy-handed and pretentious---even by Emmerich's standards. The last scene really seals the deal for me: the astronauts note how the sky has never been clearer, implying that some good came about from a storm that just killed millions of innocent people. What a waste of Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid.
  22. ...Win a game of cards with the others? What kind of card game? Due to the general nature of the question, I went with Twilight. She could probably count cards and gain a strategic advantage. ...Not like you or understand you very well? Hmm. I chose Rainbow. She might think I'm too much of an egghead. It's really hard to say, though. ...Fall in love with another Mane 6? xD Pinkie Pie. She can be clingy and needy. Watch "Griffon the Brush-Off", "A Friend in Deed", and "Wonderbolts Academy" for reference. ...Reunite with her family? (not AJ or Rarity) Why is Twilight on the list? She doesn't really need to reunite with her family. In any event, I chose Pinkie Pie. Her estranged family is the only one shown to still be alive. ...Win a beauty contest? (not Rarity) Fluttershy. Case in point: "Green Isn't Your Color". ...Die young? Rainbow Dash. She is the most given to, say, dying in some tragic accident while performing a stunt.
  23. Twilight Sparkle - Friedrich Nietzsche ("By becoming an Alicorn, I have surpassed the limitations which hold back lesser ponies!") Rainbow Dash - Aynd Rand ("'Daring Do laughed. She stood naked at the edge of a cliff. The lake lay far below her. A frozen explosion of granite burst in flight to the sky over motionless water...'") Fluttershy - Friedrich Schleiermacher ("Angel Bunny, your exclusive reliance on reason has left you to neglect the personal experience of the divinity...") Pinkie Pie - Thomas Hobbes ("Surrender your autonomy to the Leviathan, Dashie!") Applejack - Joseph Stalin ("Collective farmin' and the purgin' of the bourgeoisie? Sure, I guess...") Rarity - Thomas Carlyle ("Great ponies shape history, Sweetie Belle.")
