They might have just created the Elements of Harmony. If you watched the 8 minute clip, you'd see that Sombra wasn't defeated with them at all - I wonder why? Was he not as formidable as Discord? But then again, how did one guy manage to take over an entire empire? Only through Celestia and Luna's divine intervention was he put to an end but not before placing a curse upon an entire kindgom - I'd say that sort of stuff is the work of a very powerful being. He's no alicorn, but this guy's heart was "as black as the night" said by Celestia herself. Doesn't that require the Elements of Harmony? Or, the Elements might have already existed - something of a guardian angel, brought forth from the beginning of time, to serve as guides throughout Celestia's rule. Reminds me of the Blue Orb and Red Orb from Pokemon where they effectively can calm down (and even control) Groudon and Kyogre, bringing some sort of peace to calm the storm, as it were. Is it possible to become an Alicorn after several attempts of using the elements? Oh, but wait, Faust said so herself that Alicorns were born and there is probably no "evolution" process to it. We need to go back deeper than just the early periods of Equestrian history - we'll need to know how the hell Celestia and Luna were actually born. Eh, 1000 years is approximate. That places Discord's downfall much before that point and there was some peace between the two periods. Though, this brings up yet another response from me: I can't help but think that Sombra inflicted a curse on Luna to become Nightmare Moon, thus causing her to go apeshit with jealousy and envy. If the above were to be true, that is - he not only managed to curse an entire kingdom, but this guy, as I've said before, seems to be a master manipulator and was easily able to ensnare a curse upon the Empire regardless of his banishment. Insurance seems likely.

1. Equestria is founded 2. Trouble erupts and Discord's reign of disharmony begins. 3. Discord is overthrown. 4. Peace. 5. King Sombra is overthrown. 6. Nightmare Moon is banished to, ironically enough, her own moon. There is, however, one problem. The Crystal Ponies' history weren't written down in books and so it's hard to make a case on when Sombra conquered their empire and was overthrown - but we can rule out Luna going apeshit and transforming into NMM before any of that. Is the Crystal Empire supposed to be a part of Equestria? Did they somehow managed to start their own regime without the royal sisters' knowledge? We might see some of that in the Luna-Celestia background episode that's slated for this season, near the end most likely.

On another note, Twilight is definitely growing up and maturing as these season premieres/finales roll by. She already knows how to be a tremendous friend and pony, but now she looks poised to elevate her game to the next level - which would be done by successfully completing this new mission Celestia handed to her. Perhaps she's on her way in becoming Celestia 2.0, now that I think about it.

So, I managed to think of some things that Equestrians back in the olden days (whatever's the equivalent to the Middle Ages back then) where a lot of their beliefs would be considered extremely controversial nowadays from our modern-era human perspective. Since then of course, Celestia's harmony overcame those barriers those beliefs might have created and Equestria continued to thrive. Keep in mind that Celestia probably looked down on these beliefs herself but was unable to do much because this was the common mindset that ponies had. Also keep in mind that this is pure speculation. Here we are: 1) Only ponies of the same species may marry and mate: A pretty common way to kick this kind of thread off. This brought forth a rather large social barrier as ponies could not understand true harmony if this were the case. A pegasi only being limited to marry another pegasi and not the one they love (i.e, a unicorn) would bring forth a shitstorm in modern-day Equestria. Especially considering the friction that might have been present between the two species still, even after the showing of Hearth's Warming Eve, the two species couldn't have just looked at each other and accepted/liked the other's habits, right? 2) The wealthy shall only marry the wealthy or common class and never the lower: This grinds my gears... or would, rather. Self-explanatory considering how haughty the Canterlot folk are, even to this day. A noble would be limited to marrying a mare with high class or otherwise suffer a rather large bashing from the others if he were to marry a... servant pony. Funny how this is considered "classy" when it's the exact opposite. ClassLESS. 3) Unicorns rule, pegasi droll, Earth ponies just suck: I'm aware that the three species can work together and actually like each other, but the case of unicorns being the top dogs might still hold strong here. They have magic, the one thing Equestria really thrives on and is run through; although pegasi probably have their own magic, nowhere near is it as elegant and/or natural as unicorn magic, but they can at least fly. Earth ponies being the ones doing all the "dirty work" would give their species a sad name, in all honesty - nothing more than just slaves, in a way. Can you tell that these beliefs could spawn something more than just a problem? Say... a chaotic problem? These may have held some ground to it even after the founding of Equestria which marked the appearance of Discord, directly thriving off the social barriers and some hatred/friction between everything, since everything was a head-scratcher... to the point where you would be infuriated when these barriers are put up. Eventually, over time, Equestrians learned that these didn't pan out and didn't make anypony happy and only made them as a race regress. Feel free to add more to the list.
