Got Bachelor's degree in design last year, started working in a small studio.. Can't say I dont like it (hours are good, almost no overtime, and pay is pretty neat for my region), but I definitely want to get another degree in a few years. Either in CS or Marine Biology. (weird, but that's 2 things that engage me)

Though, nothing beats learning from life

Experiences will always beat degrees. But Degrees helps ya get one leg up over everyone else! Certs are the same way!

Lately I've noticed lots of them Pony tumblrs out there and some of them are dead, but many are well drawn and have awesome content, so why not share them with us if you happen to follow or even better, OWN one of them? :)

My personal favourite: http://askSurprise.tumblr.com (Surprise is the original concept for Pinkie Pie, and she was a pegasus so yeah. really entertaining stuff!)

A couple more that I happen to like:

http://askthepiesisters.tumblr.com/ - Found it here. Really fun way of playing 3 ponies at once!

http://ohdatCheerilee.tumblr.com - A little dead but pretty damn entertaining!

Let's see what you've found or created!

Well, there is one I run, where the main character is a dragon who is trying get  into pony politics.

Okay so there's lucid dreams but has anyone had a lucid nightmare before? If you don't know a lucid nightmare is a very horrifying dream that looks and feels exactly like reality and your trapped in the dream. So you can't wake up until you do something very specific plus often with lucid nightmares if you die in the dream you will also die in real life at the same time. So in the end Lucid nightmares could actually be life threatening and often people are asleep for days or weeks when they are in a lucid nightmare. :)

If that were the case, then it would be an indication that the person would have a bigger medical problem. but it is very rare. I had lucid dream nightmares, where I was drowning in water, but somehow I could still breath that water, which made me lucid, once I realized I was really not drowning, but just floating in water, with no lack of breath.

  5. Hello there!

So, I run this MLP Webcomic, where it is about a young inexperienced Dragon, who does not know what he is doing.  He is trying to help gain allies with the ponies, while his own homelands are under attack!

However, Pony Politics is not as easy, is it seems. So the young and inexperienced ambassador, has to learn the hard way as to how pony politics work.

I am the story Writer/MOD and my friend "The Professor" is the one who draws the strips.

Will the Ambassador Gain the ponies as Allies? Will he make a fool of himself? Let's Find out!

Link to the web comic in Story Order: http://ask-rye-dimar-dragon.tumblr.com/tagged/Chapter1/chrono

Below you will see a handful of panels from the web-comic and sending in questions or statements via Tumblr, does help influence the story.

Come on down and help the Ambassador!

Is there such a thing as an equalizer or compressor for home theater setups? Because all I find are equalizers for sound booths or sound editing rooms.

WOW, I have slacked off on this thread! NO MORE!

Ok, This is an old question, but I will still try to answer it.

The best way to do this to my knowledge is use headphones that let you offer Equalizer settings.  Turtle Beach and BOSE Headphones come to mind, weather it is  bluetooth connected or through a headphone jack.

I got a new question, any idea what this is?

It's my TV, I don't know why it's doing this all of a sudden. I had this for a few years now.

It seems like one of the LED bulbs are on it's way out.  Most LCD/LED TV screens have small bulb (LEDs on the edge of the screen.) So it is a sign that one of them is malfunctioning.

  7. I got a new question, any idea what this is?

It's my TV, I don't know why it's doing this all of a sudden. I had this for a few years now.

Ok, it looks like one of the three things to me...

1.) It looks like one of the LCD/LED light blubs on the edge of the screen is failing/defective.

2.) The port in which your media device is plugged into could be defective as well.

    3) Some TVs have defective capacitiors that leak or blow before their time,

    THINGS TO TRY....

    1) Try another input port.  If you are using HDMI port 1, then try HDMI port 2,3 and so on.  See if the problem persists.  If it persists, no matter what port you plug into, then it is more likly issue number 1, that I listed above or issue 3.

    2) Take off the back panel of the TV (When it is unplugged from port) and look for any "Goo" or odd leakage on the circuit board or burned spots.  If you are not comfotable with this, then do not try it. Take a picture if you can

    3) You could always call the manufactor of the TV and have them look at it, but I assume you posted, because you wanted to see if you could try a few things before doing that. :)

  8. Well I've been looking into a Network Attached Storage myself. Just so that my family can share all the movies my brother and I downloaded. We're using PLEX for the... media handler... thing.  What do you recommend for a NAS device? I saw this and I was hoping I found a winner.

Sounds like you are looking for just NAS to just hold large movie files and stream it.  If that is the case, the QNAP TS-469-PRO NAS

you found should work fine doing just that.  However be aware that the device seems to have its own movie streaming application.  So, it is possible that you may not need to use PLEX at all, but something for you to decide.

You didn't mention how much storage you would need and if you wanted to make backup copies of all those movies of yours.  The device you mentioned has 4 storage bays, do you really need all that room?  If you have lower storage requirements like 1 to 4 GB then I think you would be able to  get a cheaper version of that QNAP device that has 2 bays like the QNAP-TS-259 PRO which is about $200 cheaper.  CAn be found in the linik below....

    http://www.amazon.com/TS-259-PRO-NAS-2-bays/dp/B00428DKCG/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1445088548&sr=1-5&keywords=QNAP+TS+2+bay

Don't forget, that you can usally replace the hard drives in those bays for bigger storage in the future, so either options should be good.  I just don't know how much room you have now vs how much you plan to use in the future to give further advice.

  9. So I run a MLP based web comic listed below....

    http://ask-rye-dimar-dragon.tumblr.com/search/Chapter1

I am the MOD who writes the story/scripts and assigns it to artists that I commission.

BIO: War has torn the Dimar dragons a part and some have escaped into Equestria, seeking the magical ponies to aid them in the war to help them take back their homelands.  However, before the ponies will assist, the dragons first need to earn their, trust, respect and alliance.  They will not offer aid to some dragons that they just met, right away.  The comic focuses on a Dimar Dragon who is young and is a NEW ambassador. The job was FORCED on him as a last minute decision, due to the last one being killed off.  He is stressed out, because he has little experience in his field of work, but also has the pressure from his kind, to find a "fast" solution to their current conflict. Add to the fact that pony culture confuses the heck out of him and has a tendency to be a gullable fool, just adds to the problem.

What I am asking: I am looking for some feedback on the story so far and suggestions on how to improve the front page on tumblr.  I have custom background and buttons in the process of being made, however I am open to suggestions on a background and title to fit the theme of the comic.  Also looking for feedback on the humor and possibly questions that one should address story wise in this kind of comic.  Also suggestions on other tumblr ask comic blogs that would be good to colberate their charaters with to help move the story foward or  help create some more funny moments in the story.

How I operate: I write story/scripts out first in chapters long before I hand them to the artist, so I plan ahead before commisioning an artist to help tell my story.  Asks send it do infunence and "modify" my scripts as I see fit. So I keep my scripts open to adjustments based on what questions or charater RP messages get sent in.

below as an example of one update...

  10. What is everyone's worst fear when they get older?

Mine is becoming more forgetful.  Cause all this time, as you enjoy life, you create memorys that you charish. Only to know when you get older, to the point where your brain gets weaker, to the point that you begin to forget things.  My biggest fear is not death, but how I may one day, lose my memorys.  As I get older and forget my cherished memeories.  That is my biggest fear.

We collect pictures and mementos just to REMIND us of the good times we have together...

What about the rest of you?

  11. What is your favorite "ask" pony related tumblr?

This include blogs related to the show, not just ponies, for example it could be about Griffins, dragon charaters or OC's related to the show in some way.

    1) List one or more "ask" tumblr blogs, along with a link

    2) Why do you like said blog(s)?

  12. I just woke up from a lucid dream/nightmare combo.  I knew I was dreaming and wanted to wake up but could not for a very long time. The nightmare part was the terror I felt.  I kept "waking up" to what I thought was reality(but was just more dream). Well, there was one other nightmare aspect: kittens on fire.  But it was in a made-up movie so I knew it was fake.

There were lots of nice things in it: Disney World, visiting India, seeing my deceased cat like she was in her prime, dancing, drums, a mansion, I got to wear a beautiful dress, hot guys that were into me, sexy times with said guys, scuba diving, movies I had never seen (that don't actually exist), superpowers, interior redecorating.  Also, everything was so realistic and detailed.  I remember looking in the mirror and I could see everything like in real life: from my pores to the blood vessels in my eyes.

In the end I was in a bathroom spinning around with a huge headache and screaming at myself to wake up.  When I woke up for real I was tired and almost went back to sleep.  But I remembered how hard I fought to escape and I couldn't betray myself like that.

I believe that is called a "false awakening" Dream.  I had those before, but over something so silly, but it would involve me running to the bathroom and trying to find one, cause I had to go very bad.  Then I wake up and realize I ACTULLY really need to go now. LOL

  13. As of late, I be getting back to my practice of lucid dreaming and I am running into a number of issues.  But I will focus one issue for now.

I keep having this same dream over and over again for the last few weeks.  I would walk into a bathroom and look into the mirror.  I would see myself but get scared....a lot.  I would see myself, but disfigured in a horrible way.  Or I would see myself without eyes and look like a creepypasta like (whatever you call it) where you would have just DARK BLACK with no eyes that look like they are vibrating.  I would get scared and then wake up.

What do you think this means?

I can become lucid and aware pretty good now.  Now I am trying to take better control of my dreams. However this one, or anything involving a mirror, I get scared to death when I look into the mirror.  Sometimes, when I become lucid just in time,  I would purposely look at the mirror and try to LAUGH at myself and point at the mirror.  It helps a lot, but I end up waking up anyway.  What do you think this means and how else would I "defeat" this?

I can go on an talk about my other lucid dreaming issues, but this one stands out the most. I guess a good place to start is what would this mean? Why does it happen often as of late?

  14. Thank you so much!  i was so afraid of getting something under-powered and then utterly useless to me; i appreciate you taking the time to go through all of that and then explaining it--not to mention organizing my own thoughts lmao.  i think the weight trade off for that nice graphics card will be fine with the flip, since my current laptop is about 6 pounds.  the cintiq is acting as my "second" monitor at the moment.  not running maya shouldnt be that big of a deal i think since ill be majoring in graphics design, and not 3d animation.  im upgrading from a hp pavilion dv6-1245dx--faithful but game hating.

and huzzah! i thought a portable cd drive was gonna run me another 100 bucks or so!

and yes, i miss a powerhouse desktop--im asking a lot out of a laptop i know, but im glad theres something out there that meets my needs without costing me a kidney. :)  thank you again for your insight!

You are most welcome!  Like I said before Maya is VERY demanding and AUTODESK demands high end desktop and laptop video cards from computers that are $2000.

I don't own a laptop yet, but I own a desktop.  The good part is, when you get that laptop that meets the middle ground for now.  7 years down the road, when you are looking for another one.  They will only become more powerful and cheaper in the future!

thank you for your time! yes, a recommendation, id like some personal experiences/opinions with them and advice on whats gonna fit my lifestyle best; the budget is about 1200, but i need it, so a little higher would be ok. def not over 1500 though, and less is always welcomed for minimum trade off xD

other requirements...beyond handling photoshop cs5 (with the new 3d brushes they added there) maybe able to handle a 3d software down the line, like maya or zbrush. i aim to have this thing for about 5+ years, so being able to upgrade it would be nice. neither one has a dvd drive--which ill need. :( i only watch a few movies, but i trawl the net for reference pictures, and music while i doodle is wonderful. (cant do that atm)

im sorry im terrible at this because i dont know exactly what i want or need. i want what i need, but i need to figure out what i need....and by asking me poignant questions like this, you are helping me with that too x3

OK, I am going to organize everything you said. So we can all gather information in one place. Also I will give off a list of recommendations and why I suggest each laptop.

You are looking to run the following...

    Adobe Photoshop CS5

The Sims (I am not sure what version of the Sims, so I am going to assume the latest version)

    TF2 (Team Fortress 2)

    LOL (Leagues of Legends)

What I see that you are looking for...

Based on what I have read, you are looking for a laptop and NOT a desktop.

You WILL WANT a computer that has a 64 bit version of Windows, so you can use more the 4GB of RAM, otherwise that 32 bit version of Windows will limit you to 4 or 3.2GB. (I use Photoshop CS6 and you will NEED that RAM and a good video card!)

You said your budget is between $1200 to $1500, MAX.

You mentioned that having Photoshop crammed on a small screen. Most laptops today allow you to plug in your TV screen to use as a second monitor, so that should not be an issue with a new laptop. (I am not sure what your old laptop's screen size was, so I will assume you want more screen space, like a 14, 15 or 17 inch laptop.)

You would like the laptop to be light weight for you to travel with. (NOTE: It is hard to find a laptop that is within your budget that has the LIGHTEST weight AND POWER to run the games AND Photoshop decently.

But it is doable, I think if you live with the extra few pounds of weight on a laptop, then you will get the one that is more than powerful enough to run everything you want, but deal with a few extra pounds of weight, while staying within your budget range. :)

You mentioned that you need/want a CD-ROM drive. You have two options here. If you want an ULTRA light notebook. Then keep in mind, that they NO LONGER come with a CD-drive built in. Unless you go with a heavier laptop. (6 pounds or more) You can always buy a USB portable CD-DRIVE for $20 to $50 dollars that can plug into any PC with a USB port. I would suggest you buy one and put it in the same bag as your new laptop. This way it is always with you. They make SLIM ones in which it does not take up a lot of room.

NOTE: Some Ultra notebooks are an "All in one" piece, meaning that you can't upgrade them, cause they are put on permanently to the motherboard on the inside. That's another reason why I suggest an extended warranty. Some of the heavier and not so thin laptops, do allow you you upgrade some components. Where a desktop PC, you can upgrade anything.

Also you showed interest in the following...

    Sony Vaio Flip

    Surface pro 2

Here are some choices that I have found, that fit your requirements....

Sony VAIO fit 15A Flip PC (link below)

    http://store.sony.com/vaio-fit-15a-flip-pc-zid27-SVF15N17CX//cat-27-catid-All-15-Ultrabook-Flip?vva_ColorCode=1E1E1E

The Good: It meets and exceeds all the requirements that you want for Photoshop and games. The battery life is about 5 hours. It is also $1250! Well within your budget! That NVIDIA Geforce GT 735m will handle anything you throw at it!

The Bad: It weighs about 6 pounds, not sure if you are comfortable with that . 1 year warranty, I would suggest to buy an extended warranty!

    Another option would be the...

    Asus Zenbook UX32VD (Link below)

    http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX32VD/

The GOOD: It has a strong video card for both your Photoshop and games. It is about 3.8 pounds! Lighter then the SONY laptop.

The BAD: The CPU is under 2.0 GHz, (It is 1.7 Ghz. ) It would run Photoshop and most games good. IN LOL, however you might lag a little bit. (because LOL requires 2.0 GHz or better as a RECOMMENDED requirement), However, you can still run the game. Just lower the graphic settings on it, for that game. :) It can run the other games on near high settings. Also it is $100 above your budget and the SCREEN is small, 13 inch. The video card is weaker compared to the Sony laptop, which may not perform as well compared to the sony one.

My Recommendation! (WHAT I THINK YOU SHOULD GO WITH!)

Go with the SONY VAIO fit 15A FLiP PC with an EXTENDED warranty. (Most places will extend the warranty to up to 3 years, but most laptops last 3 to 6 years anyway.) It has nearly everything you need, it is 6 pounds, but it is within your budget range. That is the sacrifice you have to make.

You mentioned, you would like one that (In the future)  can run autodesk Maya OR "Zbrush".

OK, if you go with the SONY VAIO, then you should be good for Zbrush. HOWEVER, this laptop or any other laptop in your budget range can NOT run autodesk Maya (2015)! Because MAYA demands either INTEL HD graphics P4600 or NVIDIA Quadro Laptop graphic cards. These video cards in laptops are a lot of money. So unless you are willing to spend $2500 or more on a laptop, I can't see you running maya 2015 on this new laptop. (The cheaper options would be to invest into a separate HOME desktop PC, that has the required high end video cards to run MAYA or any Autodesk software.)

Like I said before, buying an ULTRA portable laptop WITH POWERFUL video cards in the same laptop, is a lot of money. You can buy or build a DESKTOP PC to run ALL of that and then some for $700. (Not including the monitor, keyboard and mouse costs.) But you mentioned you needed the portability, so that option is out.)

In this case, so being you said you want to travel with it, then what I recommended you, should do you well. It has 8GB of RAM (Which Zbursh recommends for its software) and it had more then enough VIDEO card muscle to run all the games you listed, along with running Photoshop with a 3D brush.

Please let me know what you think.

    • Brohoof 1
  16. Sounds fair to me.  Have you considered being self-employed?  Might be something to look into as well.

Yes I have, it takes some money to get started and rake in customers, but I think it is doable.  From my experience, however It is hard to get customers to PAY up front or to pay at all. Again looking at my options.  Right now, contract work that is the only  thing hiring at this time, for a month to a week is ok, to rake some money.  But I can't see doing short term contract work though out my whole life.  So I am looking at the military for a better career path.  (I have to pay $500 per month in student loans, so that's my biggest expense, that makes its hard to start a business and or move out.  I refuse to take out business loans in order to start, since I am looking to pay down my debt and not increase it.

    • Brohoof 2
  17. Originally, when I walked into the recruiter's office to talk about joining the military, I knew that I wanted to do something special operations related.  That was the only thing I could see myself doing.  So, I made my choice based on the various units available to each branch.  I ruled out the Navy because of all the publicity surrounding the SEALs at the time (bin Laden had just been taken out) and my impression of their community was that they were pumping out a lot of books and there was a lot of chest-beating bravado going 'round.  I decided against the Marines for the same reason; I didn't particularly want to associate with the kind of people who are drawn to the Corps, though I found out later that people tend to mellow out a lot after they pin on a rank or two and have had their taste of how much BS they can be subject to.

That left me comparing the Air Force and the Army, and I was especially impressed with the mission set of the Special Forces (Green Berets), so in the end that my basis for choosing.  There are other benefits too, on the enlisted side at least; only the Army lets you have a degree of control over your destiny in that they allow you to choose your job.  Unfortunately, training with the SF guys forced me to learn a few things about myself.  It was a bitter pill to swallow when I didn't improve fast enough to meet their standards so when the rest of my buddies shipped off to Ft. Bragg for Selection, I had to go back to my unit.  Anyway, that's enough of my sob story right now.  The point is, people will tell you that an enlisted man with college education is always going to be underutilized and to a degree, they're right.  The reason I chose to enlist had everything to do with the number of opportunities for SF guys on the enlisted side vs. the officers.

So, unless you have a very specific plan in mind for yourself, I would suggest applying to be an officer because your overall quality of life will be miles above that of most of the people you command.  You will also be above most of the day-to-day silliness that goes on in a garrison environment but in turn you will have your own, officer-only, absurdities that you will have to deal with, one of which being that your educational background may or may not have any relevance to what you will do as an officer.  Doctors, JAG lawyers and Chaplains will all be doing things relevant to their education.  Engineering officers, to use one example, are unlikely to be utilizing their fancy degrees in Engineering, assuming that is what they even have.  You can be assigned to literally any branch of the Army, from Logistics to Intelligence to Infantry or Armor, it does not matter.  That is simultaneously one of its greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses.

tl;dr: I chose the Army because I had a specific goal in mind that required me to be in the Army.  In terms of quality of life and being treated like an adult, actual results may vary but the Navy and the Air Force are always good bets.

I am currently 27 and will be 28 on June 30th.  So My research, has told me that, The Marines, has the Cut off age at  28.  The Air-force and Coast Guard has a cut off age limit of 27.  For Navy it is 34 and Army is 35 (Did they raise it to 42?  I am not sure.) As far as doing active duty military full time goes.  I know the reserves are have high age limits, but they are only part time.    So those factors is what made me look at Army and Navy.  Navy so far has more jobs I be interested in, but I want to see how high I score on ASVAB test, before I make a decision.

I am exploring my options at this time, it is just frustrating that there is no job security in the private sector, despite what I have learned and what credentials I have earned.  I am not afraid to change careers, if it means job security, which is why I got an MBA.  So I can be flexible.

  18. As of now, I have completed my high school career. So, I have my high school diploma.

I am now a freshman in college (Completing my last semester).

May I ask what major are you shooting for?

2005 - Graduated from High School.

2005 - 2008 - Graduated with my Bachelors in International Relations with a minor in History

2008 - 2011 - Did some law school postgrad but my law career failed to take off which is one of many reasons that I'm in the Army now.

    The Future

I'm hoping to get my masters in Counterterrorism Studies or something equally relevant to national security.  I still haven't decided on whether to do my 20 years in the military or get out and go private.

I am strongly considering going into the navy (I already spoke to a enlisted military recruiter and I am also trying to schedule an appoint with an officer military recruiter. To explore my options.  Since I have a masters and I DO have some experience in my field, but everything is getting outsourced!  I was curious as to why army over the other branches of work? What made you go down that branch over the others?

    2009: Graduated high school

    2009: Dropped out of college

2010: Dropped out of college again

2012: Graduated EMS academy with EMT license

The Future: Fire academy? Eeyup. Go back to the EMS academy for my paramedic license? Maybe.

Many people are getting outsourced, even Medical stuff.  My mother is an RN (Registered Nurse) and even they are turning into contract work.  I can see you dropped out and tried again. You then went for the EMS academy and EMT license.  I would suggest you go ahead with the fire academy, Since firemen and firewomen are not out sourced and have excellent retirement packages.  Now when I say outsourced, I do not mean it is turned over to those in other countries. I am referring to how companies are not HIRING employees, but contracts/temporary workers, which hire you for a project that is only a year to a few months, then they lay you off. Rinse and repeat.  I been through it all, college, trade school and certs.  I am looking into the service and debating on going.

  19.

I love you so much right now!

    bare bones run-down:

surface pro 2 (the 8gb ram, 256 SSD) Vs sony vaio flip 15

my laptop is 5 yrs old and dying. It is immobile--the battery is shot so i cant unplug it, and the screen has this slow growing cancer of dead pixels in the corner. sometimes she just wont boot, she sits still and silent, and tells me there was an error etc....it takes about 4 tries to get her to come back up.

i established credit, got a card and bought a cintiq last april. it is my substitute screen and im tickled to death with it. i can draw on the screen! im still making payments on this thing....

the surface pro 2 came out around christmas and i was absolutely smitten. little thing i can draw on, bring it home, clean it up on the big screen....what joy and potential! though it seems a tad small....photoshops menus are already pretty crammed on my laptop screen.  :( buuuuttt.... i wont have to get an L shaped desk, if itll fit between the legs of hte cintiq, i can just use that screen and use the bitty keyboard. seems genius!?

then the sony vaio flip came out. (i pondered the yoga too and its not completely out) bigger screen, dedicated graphics card (will that help with Photoshop?--i play some sims and wanna get into LoL and TF2 again) and a little better processor. Ram is what im interested in. i have a portable external harddrive for most stuff--but i cant tolerate lag if im drawing. also, the loverly pen with this isnt as sensitive (but thats not a big deal--again cintiq for final stuff) and its not wacom. its Ntrig which isnt always supported D: thought they have released a patch for 32 bit photoshop....

im not really a tablet kinda gal, so i dont think the weight will be much of a factor? ill be laying it down to take notes for class or draw anyways?

Oh. and im going back to school to get my bachelors in graphic design next fall. ive never been away to college so i dunno how much lugging around im gonna be doing. these babes need to be ultra portable, and durable. im a clumsy dingus.

im worried about the small size of the SP2, the fact that i gotta buy the keyboard, and a docking station to get it to securely hook up to the cintiq. conversely, im worried the flip 15 is gonna be too big and heavy, and i wont want to take it places for that reason? what if i lose the pens!? D:

Thank anyone who responds to this!  ive been mulling this around for months, and i just dont know! im not opposed to other suggestions, (EXCEPT FOR MACS-no thanks.) these two are just the big ones ive noticed.  the pens on these are different from a regular stylus you'd use on your phone or something.

@SweetJeans88. Can you summarize what you are asking? From what I gather you are looking to purchase a new laptop/computer and need a recommendation on the few ones that you listed? Can you give me a budget range of what you are looking to spend and what other requirements that you would like to have in it.

  20. I have Photoshop and I been trying to get this to work, I have an Octavia GIF that is of her clapping her hoofs together below...

    octavia_clap_by_samabayon-d50d6sc.gif

I can't seem to get her to work as my avatar moving.  As you can see, she always shows up as a STILL image when I upload her.

I am trying to make her an non-subscriber size.  So Can you please help me with that?  Of course I will give you credit.

  21. I have an Associates in Arts (specifically Music Performance).

I'd love to continue, going into Musicology, but... I can't go on living like everything is okay anymore. Last year at college, my parents had to pay for some of it in the end, and I felt terrible. I'm wasting people's time and money.

So, there are no plans. Just being stuck at my miserable job with a terrible shift (note: I'm mature enough to see that the job I have isn't just too miserable, it's just the thought of it really ending there that makes me use such a word as 'miserable'), and community orchestra... Orchestra is all I have anymore. But I guess that's enough. It's also currently with the one I love... So I guess that is an ending that is somehow happy enough to make me muster up a smile.

This job market is getting worse by the day, I am in a similar boat with ya.  When I went for my COMTIA certifications, my parents helped me pay for it.  However I am currently paying them back little by little.  So, like you I felt bad about others having to put money down to help ya out.   We all have that need to be "independent" from our parents and other family members.  Its just that we struggle so hard in both work and education, in order to move up to a better standard of living.  But this economy, just blows so much that the college kids and those getting out of high school are hurt the most!  Those with already years of experience are getting pay cuts and being kept longer.  I have seen "Entry level" positions that say a minimum of (3 to 5 years) us required, which puzzles me.    You are not alone, hang in there!  All of us will have to adapt to this bad economy, it does not mean you have to give up your hobby.

  22.

Went from being a "brilliant student" in elementary school to being a high school drop out. I failed 9th grade twice then dropped out due to truency and generally not giving a fuck. There are a million other reasons but it would take me forever to put it all into words. I'll probably be taking the GED test soon. Although I feel this is a complete waste of time, my mother really wants me to take it so I've been trying to study for it.

College is just a pipe dream. There is no way in hell I would be able to afford it, and I also have no clue what I would want to study, so that would be even more of a waste of time. So my future isn't exactly on the bright side, but in the conditions in which I've been living in, I can't say anyone else could have realistically done much better.

This is but a mere example of the many failures I've managed to fulfill in the colossal train-wreck I call my life.

I understand your reasoning, College is not for every one.  I went to college, right after high school cause all the places I looked for work, would not even give me an interview, unless I meet their minimum of a bachelors degree.  So I went for my bachelors and started to get interviews.  I worked a few contracting positions to gain experience.  Then I went for my masters when the economy got worse.  Since I was getting beat by people who had a masters or had more experience then me.  I am into computers and I am good at what I do.  Most employers made it crystal clear, from where I live that they refuse to interview people without a college degree, which I think it is wrong.  It also depends on what field  you want to do.  Since college is not the best option to go in that field.

If you want to be a professor then yes, go the college route. If you want to be an auto mechanic, then go the trade school route or get that certification to become a mechanic.  If you just want to do manual labor, then don't bother with either.

I always told people, it really depends on what you want to do.  You don't need college for everything. If you do not know, then don't pursue it, unless you are sure.  I would suggest do some volunteer work in different fields, this way you can explore and see what you like and dislike as far as interests go.  It looks good on a resume and you get to explore very easily on what jobs is right for you.

Degrees/Diploma - High School Diploma in 2010, Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice in 2010, Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 2011, Juris Doctorate (Law School) in 2013

Awards - Lots of stuff in high school... I got the Statewide Charter School Student of the Year award in 2010, Congressional Recognition for some volunteer work I was doing back in 2007ish, a bunch of other awards for that same volunteer work, debate awards, a couple of school-wide awards... things of that nature.  Haven't really gotten anything in college though.  I graduated with honors for my A.A. and had a couple Dean's list type awards in undergrad and law school for my grade point average in certain semesters, but nothing major.

And for the irony of the situation I worked my ass off to go to law school, winded up being the youngest graduate in my class by a couple years, took, out a ton of student loans, got three degrees on the way, and now I've pretty much decided not to become a criminal lawyer after all so yay me :P Now I'm looking at working for a corporation (preferably a tech company) doing either compliance work or trust and safety management.  So yep, we'll see what happens... hopefully I get a decent job to pay off the small fortune I took out in loans to get where I am.

I forgot to mention I was on the deans list in 2006 for a year when my GPA was 3.66 for my undergrads, but then it dropped to 3.0 as I took on 2 to 3 jobs and was doing it full time.  Life really gets hard, when you are running on three hours of sleep between school work and jobs.   :/  You and me are in the same boat with the loans, but so far it is manageable.  I keep finding short term contract work that lasts 3 to 6 months, to build my resume.  Everything seems to be turning into contract/TEMP positions and no permanent positions. :/   But we all have to KEEP TRYING!  I won't give up!

  23. My biggest fear is becoming more forgetful as I get older.  When anyone gets in their 60s or above, their memories begin to go.  This is my biggest fear because, life is short and if you don't remember what good times you have, whether it be going to conventions to meet people of similar interests, dating, or having a family, life will feel like it is not worth living. Since if you don't remeber the good times, your family, your friends.... then you wonder what it is like to live at all.

I fear that one day I would get Amnesia from old age or Alzhemiers Disease, cause it might make me lose the one thing I value the most, which is.................GOOD MEMORIES!!!!

  24. I have graduated high school and am currently attending college for an associates as an electronics tech. I do want to be an electrical engineer but I want more financial independence before doing so.

Good luck on your CCNA. I don't have mine but from what I remember from CISCO 1 is lots of Packet Tracer, Wireshark and the old adage of All People Seem To Need Data Processing for the OSI model.

Wow really?  I minored in electrical engineering, when I was doing my Bachelors.  There is a LOT of Math involved.  I would suggest taking the MATH classes FIRST before getting into the hands on stuff on creating schematics and proto type circuit boards.  Knowing the math first will really help you out in the end.

Got an associates in electronics engineering and took a few classes beyond that. Not terribly interested in going back to school any time soon, if ever. I already managed to eliminate one crippling student loan. Don't need another.

I also worked for the university from which I graduated for a while as a systems administrator. Honestly, there's nothing that they can teach you that you can't learn on your own, and for far less. If I decide to pick up some more skills in this discipline, it'll be through my own efforts alone.

Tell me about it!  I paid most of my loans while attending school for my undergads and my masters.  I have much LESS debt then my other college friends who have double or more debt then me.  Cause every time I got a tax return credit, I threw it at the LOAN.  When I had an extra 400 dollars laying around, I spent IT on  the LOAN! So this really helped keep my loan debt in a manageable amount instead of it entering 6 figures like some of my college friends did.  (Who can survive on a entry level job's income, with a 6 figure loan?)

    Graduated High School.

Got a Bachelors Degree in Network Security.

Funny part is, that just like @@Rye_B_P, I am CompTIA A+, Net+, and Security+ certified. Then again, I suppose they're fairly standard certs for the field we're both in, but just thought it was humorous that the opening poster had them as well.

As for any plans I have, I want to get my Masters soon, but I'm taking a break as I've been in school most of my life and don't want to continue the tradition so soon.

I didn't do very good in high school, but I had perfect attendance and a 3.98 GPA in college, so there's that. I only got a B in one class and that ruined my entire GPA from being a perfect 4.00. Thanks, Physics.

    I feel ya @ !

My GPA was 3.41 when I was doing my masters.  It was not the greatest, but I was working between full time college and 3 to 2 jobs, in order to pay for college and get around.  I know the feeling of how it took away from my social life.  But the fact that I am the first person in my family to have a masters degree and I beat one of my sisters to it by a few months, made me feel very good. :)

One of my  sisters (I have 3) would brag about, how  she was about to be the first person in our family line, to have a masters degree and we all got so sick of how she bragged about it ALL THE TIME.  Then I beat her to it by a month, officially.  (I graduated  in April and she graduated in May)  Then she went silent, other family memebers, even whispered to me "Thank you, now she can SHUT THE HELL UP, about it, now that you are the first one to get it!"

Got my associates in fine arts a couple years back from a Community College.

Hopefully, I can get my Bachelors in Biblical Studies in 2 years.

Will likely take 6 months to 1 year doing ministerial type work overseas.

Then return to get a Masters of Divinity.

After that.... I am considering, after several years in the vocational ministry, maybe working on a Ph.D.

Also thinking about trying to get my Ph.D from a University in Europe perhaps, any suggestions on that would be most appreciated. I know that it's rather a long long way down the line, but it can't help to start to plan towards such things.

I would suggest, if you are going to get your Ph.D I would save a bit of money first, so your student loans do not build up past an unpayable amount.  The rule of thumb  here is either do it part time and pay at least half of it off as you study or rely on grants/scholarships.  Don't let your debt get so big, that you can't afford the monthly payments, when it is in 6 figures, keep it at 5 figures or below. :)

I graduated from High School in 2013, I had a college picked and visited it last summer but decided against it due to the cost, distance and my father needing my help on the farm.

People probably won't count this towards an actual "education", but I've been vigorously teaching myself everything animation for the last nine months.

I don't remember awards very well in school, but I was the lead graphics designer for our yearbook my senior year and I made the intro for the TV morning news thing that our school shot and broadcasted in the town on a special school channel.

@  Dont' forget to put that on your resume for when you apply for jobs!  Having you in a leadership position, is looked on highly by employers, so even though it was for school. The first job you apply for look for things like this, when they consider canidates, who have little or no experience in the field, working for another company.

Sounds like somebody just wants to brag about their accomplishments ;).

I'm currently a college student, done with high school. I intended on changing majors this semester, but decided to stick with my current career path, so I will be graduating a semester later. No worries, I'll still be class of 2016 and I get an extra summer to improve my resume/build job experience.

Aannnd I'll be humble and keep awards/recognitions hidden from public ;).

Ohhhh, What do I say here......  Well you are half right there, but who does not want to brag about something good they did.  Plus, I wanted to put up an oringal topic, that was not discussed on these fourms yet. ;)
