Some of you really prefer Sweetiespike? Just because of that one picture in "A Canterlot Wedding" and because they "look cute together" or it "makes more sense, because no big age difference"? Okay, that was only half-serious... I know, even though there is no hint that Rarity has the same feelings for Spike as he has for her, Sparity still makes more sense. I don't say that it's likely to happen and the arguments against Sparity are valid in some way, but I don't see why that should make the less "unlikely" pairing more plausible. Okay, maybe my point of view in the whole shipping-thingy makes it a bit difficult to actually comprehend when people ship characters without any actual basis aside from personal preferences like "they look cute together". I actually only support Sparity and Cheerimac. Because those have at least some kind of solid build-up. Since Cheerimac is not the one that's relevant in here, let me tell you why I think that Spike and Rarity actually match. But one thing first. I do not need to see it actually happen in the show and I do not need to see what most people would consider a "full shipping". Sorry, I have no better term for it. What I mean is marrying, having children and therefore you-know-what before and so on. I don't need to see any of that or to be more precisely, since the show is still and will always also be for kids, its consequences. Love is about far more than that and I'd prefer to see Sparity always being half-canon than to see something like Sweetiespike happen without a build-up or a forced romance plotline. The latter for both shippings. So thanks to @@CITRUS KING46 for the laugh and the valid observation. That sentence in the beginning of your reply was priceless. I know that Sparity is unlikely to happen at all because of the age and species difference. But I still see more points that support Sparity than Sweetiespike. Just look at them. Their characters, their development. Greed and generosity. Both of them experienced both traits. Both have problems dealing with their very nature, especially when you see Rarity's generosity as something that can make her acting in a too selfless and actually a bit self-endangering way like in "Suited for Success", and of course Spike's greed in "Secret of my Excess". Rarity kinda wants to be a princess, she is looking for her Prince Charming. We all know how that failed with Blueblood. Spike wants... well, what exactly? He saw himself as her knight in shining armor in "A Dog and Pony Show" and he wanted to find himself in "Dragon Quest" which resulted in him realizing that he is a pony by nurture. And he has a crush on her. As I said before, I don't need to see them being in love like in love-love. But there is already enough that supports the possibilty to still develop their relationship furter than just stopping at the simple "boy has a crush on woman" thing. That's simply why I not just prefer, but for myself only think of Sparity as a "valid" shipping, unlike Sweetiespike. I know, shipping is not necessarily to be taken seriously at all, expresses personal preferences and is something that can get quite strange. But I see shipping not necessarily as something that has to be romantic in the end, not even in headcanon, fanon and fanfics. I'd accept Spike outgrowing his crush on Rarity, or her turning him down, if the show ever goes that way. If it has a build-up. And that's something I don't see when I look at Sweetiespike. No build-up. I know that could change, for whatever reason. But it'd just seem very odd to me after everything that already happened between Spike and Rarity. So I stick to Sparity.
