    so erm... how does one exactly add a .gif as an avatar?

      You just click 'change your avatar' and either upload the .gif using a URL or the actual .gif file from your computer. You treat it like a regular image. It has to be 150x150 px or under and has to be 100kb or less. :P

      If you right click the GIF and select copy image link, go to your profile and paste the link in the URL thingy.

      That's for chrome though, I'm not sure if the copy image link is available for all browsers.
