Pokémon stopped being good after generation 4 :c

I remember back when I was a kid and played pokemon crystal all the time

I've heard a lot of "the older generations are better" talk but I've never really understood why. I've played white and I didn't have any problems with it. (yes I know about the garbage pokemon and the ice cream one but come on, that isn't enough to hate the whole game)
