Well you see, a lot of people that I've met have tried to actually force their religion onto me.

I wouldn't doubt that. Everyone does it, sometimes without realizing it. When someone is so heavily steeped in their religion that they fully and 100% it's the right way and everyone who disagrees is wrong it gets to the point where their religion is all they ever talk about. One way or another a conversation will end up on their religion and them preaching it to you because it's what they believe is right. They believe that one way or another everyone should be converted.

And though it may seem like some kind of power trip it's actually more because their faith has led them to what they believe is the absolute truth about the universe. Them attempting to spread the word of truth is no different than any other person who wants to believe what the truth of the universe is, even Atheists are that way. (In general, not pointing fingers)
