    Why is it called an Alicorn if its a Princess/Unicorn?

      "Ali" is one of the multiple variations of a root word that means "other."

       

      The "corn" part comes from the latin root "cornus", which means "horn."

      So, basically, an alicorn is not a unicorn, pegasus, or earth pony, so it is an "other" type, and it's got a horn, so put ali and corn together and you've got alicorn.

      Alicorn is the name of the cross-breed between all three pony types. A princess is a female prince, who's a type of royalty. Although all pony princess we've seen so far are alicorns, that doesn't mean the two words are synonyms.
