  1. Hey everyone, update time!

I had a bit of a scare on Tuesday. We almost lost my cat Bingo (I mean dead lost, not missing). But thankfully he turned out to be alright. But the event prompted me to go through my old photo albums and write up my memoirs of the 17 years I've had with him. I know I probably only have a couple more years with him, and so I wanted to get his life story down while he's still with me. If you'd like, you can read them on my blog here: http://arrellianstories.blogspot.com/

  2. My cat, Bingo, is 17 and I've had him his entire life. I got him when I was little, and we've grown up together. I can barely remember back to a time when I didn't have him around. And I hope he is still a part of my life for many years to come. :)

  3. Just finished the next-to-the-last chapter, only one to go. The story's getting really good, if I do say so myself, and I look forward to uploading it soon. I would like to have a cover art piece before I upload it to Fimfiction. Do you still think you're interested Applejohn?

  4. Hmm, well I guess the number 1 thing I fear in life is making mistakes. I've always been a lot like Twilight Sparkle in that I tend to be a perfectionist. If I'm going to participate in something, it has to be something I know I can do well. I'd hate to jump into something and do it poorly and end up looking like a fool. And I hate making choices without knowing how things will turn out. I like to know all my variables and work things out perfectly.

  5. I'm working on writing the last 2 chapters now, then the story should be done. I plan on uploading it here first to give everyone a chance to read it before sending it in to EQD. I estimate I'll be done with my part by next weekend, so if you want to work on it during the week any time, that would be fine.

I'll probably leave it here on these forums for a few days before sending it in. So if you'd rather wait until it's been posted and you've had a chance to read the story, that's probably ok too.

And yes, just looking for 1 picture. Thanks for the interest!

  6. I'm not against a good glass of fine wine with a steak dinner or some such meal that calls for it. In those settings it's entirely appropriate and adds an extra layer to the meal.

But I don't care for beer or most of the rest of the cheap "get drunk quick" stuff you can get at the local store. That stuff's nasty and doesn't even smell good. I don't see the attraction there.

  7. Hello everyone! It's been a couple years since I visited these forums, so I know most people here now won't remember me. But a while back I got busy working on a huge fanfiction project (50+ pages) that was going to be submitted to EQD. Well then real life changes threw me for a time of chaos that would make Discord jealous, and I dropped out of the MLP community for a while. But here I am now, looking to resume and finish my project for final posting and submission both here and at EQD.

So what I'm looking for is someone who'd be interested in drawing some cover art for me. I can't pay you, but if EQD takes the story you'd get your name listed along with mine.

The story is called The Infinite Pantry and here is an introductory summary:

If one word sums up the Cutie Mark Crusaders, it’s trouble. They seem to have an uncanny ability to find it where no one expects. And it’s always when things seem to be going well that trouble finds its way into the mix. The blissful realm of Equestria is no exception. All is not well in the heart of that magical kingdom, as the residents of Ponyville are soon to find out. A dark and sinister magic is at work, lurking in the void beneath the world. And unbeknownst to the ponies of the town, it’s already claimed its first victims. Sending out faint tendrils of energy, it’s lured the Cutie Mark Crusaders into its domain and sealed the door behind them. And as Twilight Sparkle and her pony friends enjoy a day of fun and parties, the three reckless little fillies make their way deeper into the realm of chaos. Will Twilight and the others find out in time to retrieve the wayward fillies before they walk into the waiting Power’s hands? And if they do, will the six friends have what it takes to delve into the darkness, face their fears, and put a stop to the spreading evil? Or will the wielders of harmony be useless against this most sinister of foes? Only time will tell…

    ---------------------------------------------------------

I'm thinking an illustration of a partially open pantry door with a dark shadow inside and some footprints in the dust leading into it. A concerned Twilight (unicorn, not alicorn) standing to the side looking at the door in surprise.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, please post here and we can talk more details. Thanks!

  8. Ah yes, Veggie Tales actually came out when I was in junior high. My friends started getting into it, and I was like "What!? Why are you watching a silly kid's show." Yeah. Me back then probably would have been appalled to know I now watch MLP. >_>

Eventually I came to enjoy Veggie Tales, though, just like I now enjoy this show! It's got some good stories, and it's clean and above board for everyone. Actually a couple weeks ago I watched one with some friends called "It's a Meaningful Life." It's kind of a spinoff version of the Jimmy Stewart classic It's a Wonderful Life. Some pretty good stuff in there about life choices and how the things you do have an impact on other people. Pretty solid storytelling there. ;)

  9. Hello everyone! I'm not technically new (I was one of the founding members here back in 2011). But I've been gone for so long I might as well be new. I even had to reset my password cause it'd been so long I forgot it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and see if anyone from back in the day was still kicking around here. Looks like the site has changed a lot since I've been gone. What is everyone up to these days? I look forward to catching up with people and making new friends. :D

  10. I never noticed this before, but that's probably because I didn't stop to really study the background ponies when I first started watching the show in Season 1...

But take a close look at this screenshot from "Fall Weather Friends". I think you'll find it hilarious.

I call it Race of the Dopplegangers. There's at least 3 Lyras, 3 Bon Bons, 3 Berry Punches, 3 Carrot Tops, and others.

Or maybe the Changelings have been secretly infiltrating Equestria all this time!!

  11. Update! I've uploaded 3 videos from the event to my youtube channel. They're short, just a taste of what it was like, but better than nothing and a chance to hear John DeLancie narrating. :)

I would have added them to the OP but apparently it was too full to embed anything more.

Also, apparently there's something wrong with the site here, it won't let me embed the 2nd video. Says I've uploaded too many media already. Like 3 links to youtube is too many somehow. So you'll just have to click the link. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

  12. An M. Night Shyamalan level Plot Twist...

Zecora is secretly a Changeling! But she split from Chrysalis a long time ago and so was not part of her army that attacked Canterlot. In fact, she was the former queen of the Changelings but was unable to keep her position when Chrysalis rose to power, and so she fled into exile, hiding in the Everfree Forest so Chrysalis' minions wouldn't find her.

  13. Cyborg eyes are the best eyes... just ask Sweetiebot (or Finesthour!)

Funny thing is, when my alarm went off at 6:30 this morning I honestly thought about hitting the snooze and going back to sleep. I hate getting up early to travel. But I'm so glad I didn't. :)

  14. If being introduced to a whole pile of new music and artists that I never would have known about counts, then buck yeah! :D

Oh, also getting in my car at the God-forsaken hour of 7:30 in the morning and driving for nearly 5 hours to be at a meetup in Chicago with a bunch of people I've never met before to sit on the grass and listen to opera...

    And meet John deLancie. B)

And make MLP cake art for my birthday.

And carve MLP pumpkins with my dad for Halloween.

So yeah, things have changed because of this crazy show. Yay. ;)

  15. Hey Everypony! A while back on EQD there was a http://www.equestria...should-go.htmlpost about John DeLancie calling out all midwest bronies to meetup in Chicago to hear him narrate The Magic Flute, Mozart's only opera. Well I got to go today. It was a long drive from my home in Iowa, but well worth it! We had a huge turnout, and we got to meet John in person after the show. It was awesome! B)

Some pics of our experience... Cause everyone loves pics! ^_^

There are two Fluttershys in this first pic... can you spot them both? :o

    *ehem*

Sorry for the pic spam. I haven't met many people that have seen this series, so I had to share some of its awesomeness for the unenlightened. It's truly epic. B)

    Anyway...

    2. Shuffle! (Yay hot chicks)

    3. Death Note (Totally NOT overrated)

    4. .Hack//sign (great series)

    5. Gosick (another great series)

  17. I've never experienced memory lag that I've noticed. But that may be because I'm using a computer with enough extra to absorb the problem without me noticing...

As to the other things you address, of course you can have a city full of skyscrapers with few if any smaller buildings. Ever heard of New York? Or Tokyo? Many of the world's greatest cities are exactly that way, and the game accurately reflects that. You build your supporting buildings in other cities and get rid of what's not needed as you build your main city, and soon enough you don't have anything small left over. That's not something to complain about, that's how city growth works.

Then you claim that I said it's hard to upkeep the wealthy. I never said that. In fact I like the differences Cities XL makes in various income classes among your citizens. It's very realistic and something sim city never realized. In real life you're going to have widely varied neighborhoods depending on citizen wealth. You don't see that in sim city, but here in Cities XL it's pretty obvious when you go from the unskilled worker neighborhood to the wealthy executives.

You say no construction. Obviously that's wrong. Did you never try to build a monument? Those things take forever to go up.

Finally you completely ignored the issue of graphics and how ridiculously awesome Cities XL looks with such great detail. Crank up the graphics to ultra and zoom in and watch the people walk around doing their stuff. It's quite amazing really. B)

One thing I'll admit I do miss, and I wish Cities XL had this, was the U-drive-it missions of sim city 4. Being able to grab a vehicle and drive around my own city was a favorite past time, and a great way to earn some quick cash. I especially enjoyed the military missions, smuggling a tank out of the city and all that. Ah well...
