  1. I had the best Hamster ever. I got her from Petco as a baby. They said if I donated $5 to their pet charity, I could pick one to take home with me. I named her Mushroom and I always called her Mush Mush. She'd run around in the bathroom while I was doing my hair, or fall asleep in my shirt pockets. She wasn't drinking enough water one day and she developed blockages. But I rushed her to the ER that had an exotic vet on hand. They gave her baytrill and told me good luck. But the Doc actually took me aside and said: "You know...you must have a real passion for animals. I don't think anyone in their right mind would bring their hamster to get medical attention." Inner Fluttershy at work. I loved her, and I visit her in the garden everyday.
  2. I wish my first sketches looked like that! My first ones (shudder) were all sorts of skewed. I know everyone just says practice, but it really is legit advice. I actually fill one or more sketchbook pages a day, just drawing poses or faces. It really REALLY helps, and you see your specific style start to take form. Keep up the great work!
  3. This is a 4x6 acrylic cutie mark piece I did for a going away present. A good friend (and now brony thanks to me), left this week for a new place in Chicago. Fare thee well!
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coIeLIsJ0e0 That whole game was creepy as hell, but add deranged child-like psycho to giant RE monster and it usually had me running out of the room. Mendez was pretty horrifying too. >.<
  5. I couldn't be there either. :/ And with news of no Equestria LA for 2014 I'll have to plot out a different con to attend. But I did submit an original art piece to the charity auction. I hope someone uploads the whole auction soon. -nervous wiggle-
  6. LOL! Wow. Rarity is the biggest walking contradiction! She always has a great idea to do the right thing, then she's just overwhelmed with the need for attention! She suggests to Twilight that all of them go to Cloudsdale to support Rainbow Dash, and then when she gets there, she turns into the biggest attention whore EVER!
  7. This is a piece I've made for the 21st birthday of the Brony who introduced me to MLP-FiM. It's a 6x8 canvas panel and acrylic. It was my first attempt at water transparency, and I'm pretty happy with the result.
  8. Very nearly done with this little lady. Something that's been on my shelf forever and now finally ready to be completed. Aside from a few lettering highlights I'm calling this piece a success!
  9. These are fairly small, actually. Each is on 6x12 from Blick. I'm really liking a longer canvas so I can do more sky-work. Once I hash out enough time to get these all tidied up I'll post again in their completed glory. I sure have. I actually use some thinned oils for washes on miniatures, and stuff. But as far as my canvas paintings go, I think acrylic gives me less of a headache. I'm actually trying out a combo of high pigment paint and Open thinners to blend better. So far they're working great for the red backgrounds in the Pinkie piece.
  10. Hahaha!! Yes, all too familiar with it. I think I was the first female to be hired on the west coast at GW. I'm a Dark Eldar fan, but I'm leaning toward Warmachine now a days. It doesn't beat my wallet as hard, and I think I've had more fun loosing games of Warmachine than winning 40k lol.
  11. I'd LOVE to donate one of my pieces for auction. I tried to finish a few for EqLa but that deadline was kinda thin. But I have lots of original pieces ready to send. All i'd need is an address and date.
  12. Ugh, worst feeling ever. I can remember being admitted for a kidney infection. The docs said I was a few shakes away from kidney failure, and that was the most painful visit. I was in TONS of pain and morphine does NOT agree with me. BUT! If you're feeling bad, go. Your health isn't something you should joke around with. Even if it's not super serious, docs and nurses can give you more insight on how to feel your best and keep it up. I hope you feel better soon!
  13. Thanks, dreammonkey! I use mostly acrylic paints for canvas painting. I'm also a miniature hobbyist, so I'm comfy painting OC's onto blindbags, smaller sculptures, and detail work for larger pieces. I'm slowly, but surely posting some of my pieces in the hall.
  14. Here are a couple of my ideas for a larger set of canvas paintings. I wanted to show each sister faced with their sort of "end of shift" in the sky that'll be painted in once I transfer these.
  15. Ah, that sky always gets me! I buy bigger canvas to paint bigger skies now. Color and contrast is great. Fluttershy is really eye-catching. The only thing I can think of is the cliff-face. I find that in landscape pieces, the darkest shadow should always be below what's in the foreground. Rounding out the edge of the cliff and lightening it up to match more of the mountain color in the shadow of sunset. Then use the darker gray/greens for the foliage below. Even though that's the part that's light-sourced the least, it'll make the cliff stand out a bit more naturally. Beautiful work!
  16. I haven't ventured into digital artwork. All my pieces are canvas and acrylic paint. I'm more comfortable with and brush, actually. Me + mouse = disaster. And everything kinda has a charming originality about it.
  17. Omg, don't get me started on shaky hands! I have a nerve pinch in my back, and thanks to my pain medicine, my hands shake a BUNCH! But I've since invested in giant packs of erasers and never looked back. ^^
  18. I know, right? Honestly, good role models are few and far between now-a-days. I have a VERY huge beef with Cosmopolitan magazine, actually. Everywhere I go, this magazine is eye level to most 5/6 year olds. Most topics on the cover have "sex" somewhere in it, or at least implies it. And these girls are growing up in a world where the goal is getting the guy, and not being the best for YOURSELF first. It's all really backwards. /sigh I'm glad I have a bunny.
  19. Thanks, Dusty Soul! I'm in the process of replacing all my cheaper acrylics with ones with better pigments. Affordable paint usually means I'm going over the same spot five+ times in order to get the color coverage I'd like. So an undefined/lighter spot looks like I haven't layered. I'm all for bright highlights and contrast. And Meirno, I do have a very awesome Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash in the works too. When these are all done I will have prints made. But if you'd like something special, message me with what you have in mind.
  20. Hello everypony! After many hours of work, I'm finally ready to start sharing my ideas and works in progress. I've been a little apprehensive about posting them. I know that a great slice of MLP artwork is digital, but I'm venturing into the realm of paint on canvas. I feel like I'm cursed with too much inspiration sometimes, because I start a piece, get another idea, and just end up with a pile of great, but uncompleted work. But here they are anyways!
  21. Yep. Those were my exact words when my boyfriend showed up with a Derpy messenger bag. I couldn't really wrap my head around it. But I'd always enjoyed cartoons, even though I'm pushing close to my 30th birthday. After I'd heard Apple Bloom's "Aren't you gonna stay for brunch?" complete with pout, I was hooked. I'd found something in all these ponies. My mood skyrocketed, everyone around me smiled more, and my relationship (which hadn't been a relationship months before) had a solid, common foundation. MLP is something best shared and it helped us recover in ways I couldn't have imagined. But enough with the sad sap violin. Hi! My OC is Peachie Paws, but my name is Blair. I live in LA, and I'm a waitress/commission artist in my free time. Most of my art is freehand acrylic on canvas. I'm more of a traditional artist, and I haven't tried my hand at Photoshop or digital art. I feel more comfortable with a brush and paint. I also do furniture restoration with custom artwork. My other interests include miniature wargames (40k/Warmachine), guarding my paintings from my nibbly rescue bunny Maximus, dancing, good (pescatarian) food and drink, swimming, and all around awesome stuff. I've already attended both Equestria La cons, and will continue to be there as long as they'll keep putting it on. But very glad to be part of the herd.
  22. Looks really lovely! My OC is a pegasus too, and if my first rough sketch wasn't even CLOSE to this good. It's all in the practice though. Keep it up.
